Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 166
Chaos erupted as security guards rushed to carry George to his bedroom.
Scarlett pressed a hand to her chest, still shaken by what she'd witnessed. She couldn't believe that someone who had appeared so healthy could transform into a critically ill patient in mere seconds.
George was now on oxygen, yet his breathing still seemed labored.
"Was he really just angered into this state?" she whispered to Michael, astonished.
She knew people could become ill from extreme emotions, but had always assumed it was literary exaggeration.
Perhaps George overheard her, because he glanced in Scarlett's direction before gesturing for Michael to approach.
Liam, the security guard, immediately wheeled Michael to George's bedside.
"Mikey, stay with me. Let's hear what that fellow has to say," George's voice carried both bitterness and fragility as he sought support.
Michael patted George's hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, Mr. George Howard. I'll stay right here with you."
Scarlett was politely escorted out by Liam. At the elevator, she encountered Graham, who was just arriving.
He was accompanied by the butler and smiled when he saw her. "Ms. Seymour, it's been a while."
Scarlett nodded politely. "Mr. Howard."
Though aware that Graham wasn't welcomed by the Howard family, as a fellow illegitimate child, Scarlett instinctively wanted to afford him some dignity.
Her greeting caught Graham by surprise. He walked a few steps past her, then turned back, catching a glimpse of her downcast expression just as the elevator doors smoothly closed.
Though her face disappeared, Graham had seen enough. "So much alike..." he muttered.
The butler accompanying him caught his words but maintained a perfectly neutral expression as they continued walking.
Scarlett was shown to a tea room adjacent to the main hall, where refreshments were available.
After responding to a few work messages, she started watching some classic romance dramas Lily had recommended.
She'd been surprised to discover that beneath Lily's fierce exterior beat the heart of a hopeless romantic.
Initially reluctant to watch such shows—feeling she'd outgrown them—Scarlett had eventually given in to Lily's enthusiastic recommendations.
As she watched, a message from Chris appeared.
He'd gone to her office looking for her and, not finding her there, was asking where she was.
Scarlett honestly replied that she was at the Howard Manor. His response came immediately:
[Isn't it about time for your first prenatal checkup?]
Startled, Scarlett exited the chat app to check the date. Indeed, it was approaching the recommended time for a first prenatal visit—just over a month along.
Her fingers froze as this realization sank in.
Chris continued: [If you're planning to keep it, you should really get that checkup done.]
She had to give Chris credit. Since learning about her pregnancy, this young man had been more attentive than Scarlett herself—not only remembering the timeline but even trying to gauge her intentions toward the baby.
Though she'd mentioned terminating the pregnancy, Chris doubted she would follow through.
Someone who had loved Sebastian apparently since childhood wouldn't likely abort his child—unless she'd truly moved on from him.
He typed several messages, hesitated, then deleted them.
Scarlett's reply finally came: [Teddy isn't with me today. Why don't you come pick me up?]
Chris immediately jumped from his chair, responding as he headed out.
"Heading out, Mr. Wright?" a teammate called, noticing his hurry.
Chris gave a brief reply and rushed to the parking lot.
Just as Scarlett had said, Teddy hadn't accompanied her to the Howard Manor today, having returned to Sebastian's side.
To avoid unnecessary complications, Chris chose a private hospital.
Not wanting to create misunderstandings, he remained in the lobby while Scarlett went to the examination room alone.
Chris initially glanced around nervously, afraid of being recognized, but gradually relaxed as time passed.
At forty days pregnant, Scarlett was led to the ultrasound room after her initial consultation.
Lying on the examination table, she felt nervous, clutching the hem of her shirt. She was grateful she'd worn pants today, so she wouldn't need to expose herself completely.
The doctor noticed her tension and smiled warmly. "No need to be nervous, Ms. Seymour. Please relax—this will be over quickly."
The slightly cool coupling gel applied to her lower abdomen made Scarlett instinctively tense her muscles.
"A bit cold, isn't it? Please bear with it," the doctor said gently.
The ultrasound probe pressed against her abdomen wasn't painful—in fact, it somewhat counteracted the coolness of the gel.
Scarlett pressed her lips together, adjusting her breathing to match the doctor's rhythm.
"Are you considering medication for termination?" the doctor asked while moving the probe.
"Yes," Scarlett answered immediately, her voice firm.
The doctor nodded without further comment.
This silence only increased Scarlett's anxiety, but fortunately the examination revealed no issues, and she soon left the ultrasound room.
Unnoticed by Scarlett, a woman peered from behind a corner not far away. Despite her furtive movements, her beautiful face was unmistakable—it was Adeline.
Adeline hadn't expected that a routine hospital visit would yield such a discovery.
Shocked, she hurried into the ultrasound room, pretending to look for someone. "Scarlett! Scarlett!"
The doctor, still cleaning equipment, frowned and pulled back the curtain. "What are you doing? This is an examination room!"
Adeline quickly apologized, then asked with a smile, "I'm looking for my sister, Scarlett Seymour. I saw her come this way."
The doctor, having just examined Scarlett—whose beautiful face had made an impression—and noting some resemblance between the two women, lowered his guard.
"She just finished her examination and left."
Adeline made a sound of acknowledgment, then quickly asked, "How were my sister's test results?"
"Forty days pregnant. She mentioned wanting medication for termination. If your family can persuade her otherwise, you should try. The medication is hard on the body, and after all, it is a child."
These words hit Adeline like lightning.
She barely remembered leaving the examination room, her mind fixated on Scarlett's pregnancy.
But there was a silver lining—Scarlett wanted to terminate it.
Adeline's eyes lit up. If Scarlett aborted Sebastian's child, it would inevitably create a rift between them.
Any possibility of their relationship continuing would be destroyed!
