Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 235
Hearing that, Orion knew Sebastian wouldn't help.
He frowned, clasping his hands together and unconsciously rubbing them. "You don't need to do anything directly. Just cut off the cooperation between the Howard Group and the Watson Group."
This request caught Sebastian off guard, though it aligned perfectly with his original plans.
"That's it?"
Sebastian had expected to play the villain himself, but Orion's request was an unexpected gift.
Orion nodded. "You don't need to worry about anything else."
"Deal." Sebastian stood up. "Rest here tonight. I'll arrange for someone to take you back tomorrow morning."
The next day's arrangements went off without a hitch.
Communication between the Howard family and the Watson family seemed unchanged at first, but soon rumors began circulating about another falling-out between the two families.
The news barely caused a ripple in Sovereign City.
After all, the Howard and Watson families had never gotten along well. If anything, their brief cooperation a few months ago had been the real surprise.
When the news reached the Howard Manor, George was playing chess against himself.
"Just children's games."
George waved dismissively, eyes fixed on the board as he rolled a white piece between his fingers.
The secretary reporting to him paused slightly, then acknowledged and turned to leave.
But George called her back before she reached the door.
"Send an invitation to that old man. Tell him to come see me." George still hadn't looked up, though the piece in his hand had changed to black. "Since it's the children playing games, we adults should show some responsibility."
Whether this invitation actually meant taking responsibility, the secretary couldn't say.
All she knew was that she never even saw Cedric—a younger man intercepted the invitation instead.
This man looked strange. He appeared to be from Lumaria, but his eyes were narrow and upturned, gleaming with an odd light. His face wore an unnaturally perfect smile that sent an eerie chill down her spine.
The secretary had met plenty of people who lived abroad, but none quite like this man.
She watched him clutch the invitation. "This is for Mr. Cedric Watson from Mr. George Howard."
Her reminder fell on deaf ears.
"You may leave now."
The words sounded formal enough, but carried an old-fashioned tone that made her skin crawl. A wave of discomfort spread from her chest as she forced a smile. "Alright, please make sure to pass it along."
She nodded hurriedly and practically fled.
Only after sitting in her car did the secretary finally catch her breath. That man had been truly unsettling—how could the Watson family show no reaction to him? They'd even been deferential.
Puzzled, she thought about the rumors and immediately connected them to the strange man she'd just encountered.
Could he be involved somehow?
As George's secretary, she might not have much daily work, but she still had to organize files—especially ones concerning Sebastian.
While Sebastian was indeed the group's main shareholder, his every move remained under George's surveillance.
So the secretary knew very well that Sebastian could barely cut ties with Orion completely.
The entangled interests between them went far beyond their surface-level partnerships.
She quickly returned to the Howard Manor and immediately reported everything she'd witnessed at the Watson Manor to George.
Upon hearing about this strange man at the Watson Manor, George paused mid-sip of his tea, then continued drinking. "Noted."
"Mr. Howard, shouldn't we do something about this?"
The secretary had pretty much figured out that the Watson family's recent troubles probably all connected to this man.
But George scoffed at the question. "If they don't care themselves, why should I? I'd love to see if that old fool really thinks some foreigner can help him climb higher."
The secretary said nothing more.
The incident caused no waves in Sovereign City—not even a single explosive headline.
Ten days later, Shane flew from Sovereign City to Calvessa.
As for the Watson Group's business, it was already showing signs of collapse.
...
Calvessa, Vesperia. Saint Maria Hospital.
It had been thirteen days since Scarlett's abortion.
She'd been discharged a week ago.
However, since they hadn't found a suitable place for her recovery, the matter had been put on hold.
Not until today had Libbie and the others finally selected a satisfactory location.
Scarlett wore a hat and was bundled up tightly as she took the private elevator down to the third floor of the parking garage.
Behind her followed Libbie and two of Marco's bodyguards.
For Scarlett's convenience, both bodyguards spoke English.
As soon as they exited the elevator, a car was already waiting. She barely felt any wind, hardly walked at all, and was immediately seated in the vehicle.
Since arriving abroad, Scarlett had grown accustomed to this kind of travel.
The new house was located in a villa district, facing a lake.
Not long after moving in, Scarlett received a call on the house line.
"Scar-Bear, how have you been lately?" It was Michael, whom she hadn't heard from in ages.
Just hearing his voice made Scarlett happy.
"Michael, so you do remember me?"
Her words made Michael laugh immediately. "How could I forget you? I've just been swamped lately and couldn't check in on you."
Scarlett didn't need such explanations, but hearing them still made her happy.
"That's fine. At least you're keeping busy with meaningful work."
"Same goes for you. I heard from Sebi that you're planning to study abroad." Michael clearly had access to plenty of information, though he was also withholding quite a bit.
Since he didn't mention her pregnancy, Scarlett assumed he didn't know about it. Her lips pressed together slightly. "Yeah, I am planning to study abroad. I'm still preparing for exams."
"Planning on an English-language master's or a Vesperian one?" Michael continued asking.
Scarlett pondered for a moment. "English, I suppose. I can't exactly start learning Vesperian from scratch."
"True. Well, good luck. Vesperia has excellent design schools." Michael's voice remained as gentle as always, but something felt off.
Having been raised by Michael, Scarlett still felt somewhat intimidated by this brother-father figure.
And listening to his continued questions about her study abroad plans gave her the uncomfortable feeling of being cornered by a nagging elder. She could only scratch her head. "Um... it's not time for that yet. I don't even know if I'll end up staying in Vesperia."
While her chosen school was indeed in Vesperia, if she couldn't get in, she'd probably have to consider other schools.
