Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 242
Calvessa, Vesperia, Hotel Caelstra, 28th floor.
Red-haired Benjamin paced back and forth in the room. He would occasionally look up toward the door, and seeing that no one had pushed it open, he'd click his tongue, lower his head with a shake, and resume pacing.
This continued for nearly an hour before the sound of a click finally came from the doorway.
Benjamin, who had been pacing with his head down, immediately looked up at the sound and quickly walked toward the entrance.
The person entering was a middle-aged man with golden hair and black-framed glasses. He wore a hat on his head, which he removed upon entering. Seeing Benjamin walking toward him, he let out a long sigh of relief.
"How did it go? Did you see her?"
Benjamin didn't bother asking about his friend's condition—he only asked what concerned him most.
Kevin placed his hat on a nearby rack and walked inside while removing his coat.
"Everything went smoothly, my friend. She saw the banner."
Hearing this, Benjamin let out a huge sigh of relief.
Seeing his reaction, Kevin was curious. He sat down on the sofa and accepted the warm milk a servant handed him. "How are you so certain she'll make that call?"
"Kevin, think about it—in all this time, when have you seen her come out and move around on her own?" Benjamin was in high spirits. He poured himself a glass of ice water and drank it in one gulp, the cold sensation making him squeeze his eyes shut.
"Just because of that?"
Kevin spread his hands. He'd drunk half the milk, and the upper part of his beard was stained white. He set down the glass and took a napkin to wipe his beard.
This was clearly a sign of distrust. Benjamin immediately looked over, raising an eyebrow. "Isn't that reason sufficient? During days of house arrest, no one would pass up any novelty."
Kevin didn't agree with this reasoning, but thinking of how Benjamin had been confined to his family's manor for ten years by his parents, he thought this method might actually have some basis.
However, what Benjamin hadn't expected was that ten days had passed since he'd given out that phone number, and his phone hadn't rung once for the person he was waiting for.
Well, no—it had rung several times during this period, but each time the caller wasn't the person he was waiting for.
Kevin once again saw Benjamin staring listlessly at the phone on the coffee table and couldn't help saying, "See? I told you this method wouldn't work."
In such circumstances, the last thing anyone wanted to hear was this kind of sarcasm.
Benjamin immediately looked over, his eyes blazing as if he wanted to pierce right through Kevin.
Kevin held a beer he'd just taken from the fridge. Seeing Benjamin's expression, he raised both hands. "Alright, alright, I won't say anything more. She'll definitely contact you, okay?"
Just as he finished speaking, the phone on the coffee table suddenly rang.
Upon hearing the sound, Benjamin couldn't care less about bickering with his friend. He quickly grabbed the phone—it was a number he'd never seen before. He took a deep breath and answered.
The voice on the other end was calm. "Hello."
Benjamin's heart began beating faster and faster. "Hey, I'm Benjamin Cooper."
Hearing him say that name, Kevin's eyes immediately widened. He didn't even care about his beer and immediately tried to snatch the phone away.
But Benjamin dodged, and at that moment, the person on the other end responded.
"Hello, I'm Scarlett Seymour."
Benjamin couldn't express how he felt at this moment. His breathing became increasingly labored until his friend Kevin brought him an inhaler, and his breathing gradually stabilized.
"You... you called me." He stood up and walked several circles around the sofa, running his hands through his red hair, his voice filled with unmistakable joy.
Scarlett's voice remained calm. She looked at the laptop in front of her, displaying a document—her recent investigation report on Benjamin Cooper.
Her finger lightly glided across the touchpad. "Mr. Cooper, I'd like to know—what do you want with me?"
Through several days of investigation, she'd gradually discovered that Benjamin didn't seem to be as psychologically twisted as Sebastian had claimed, wanting to expose his identity.
This Benjamin had been confined by his parents to their family's Cooper Manor until he was ten years old.
The manor was large, but Benjamin couldn't interact with anyone except his parents and the butler—three people total.
This life continued until before Benjamin's parents were killed.
A month before the disaster struck, little Benjamin was taken by the butler and began fleeing. He only brought one key—the key to the bank vault that could access Wesley's inheritance.
Scarlett thought that if this was the case, Benjamin should understand what his mission was, and his parents should have been willing to sacrifice themselves.
The question really stumped Benjamin.
"I... do you know about your background?"
His voice became gentler as he slowly asked this question.
Scarlett had expected him to ask this. She lowered her head, using her posture to make her voice sound deeper. "I'm an orphan."
Hearing this, Benjamin's heart contracted, and he blurted out, "No! You're not an orphan!"
But as soon as he said this, Benjamin froze.
How could she not be considered an orphan?
Like him, her parents were already dead.
Both of them had become helpless people in this greedy siege.

Eldoria, Rottenisa Wellness Center.
Today was a rare outdoor day. Adeline followed behind a caregiver, slowly walking across the lawn.
This lawn was large, but it wasn't exclusive to the nursing home.
Walking from the main building for about an hour would bring you to the edge of an artificial lake belonging to the facility.
Though this lake was artificially dug, it was quite large, almost comparable to a natural small lake.
On the opposite side of the lake was another hospital.
Adeline knew it was a psychiatric hospital.
So she hadn't intended to pay much attention to the people over there.
But unfortunately, with just a casual glance, she spotted a figure.
The person was in a wheelchair, which wasn't unusual in a hospital, but that face truly stunned Adeline.
Though they were somewhat far apart, Adeline could still make out the person's features clearly.
"Michael Seymour?"
She murmured in shock, never having imagined she'd see Michael in this place.
And he was actually wearing a hospital gown?
She instinctively wanted to get closer, but in the next instant, she was pulled back by the caregiver behind her.
"Ms. Morgan, what are you doing?"
The caregiver's eyes held wariness and scrutiny.
Adeline didn't mention seeing someone she knew. She just smiled. "It's so beautiful here, I got momentarily dazzled."
Hearing this, the caregiver just looked at her deeply. "Is that so? Ms. Morgan should be careful—quite a few people have drowned here."
