Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 257

Marco's words carried an obvious intent to comfort.

Scarlett pressed her lips together, feeling somewhat embarrassed. She lowered her head slightly. "Okay, thank you. I'll go upstairs now."

Just as she returned to the upstairs hallway, Scarlett heard her phone ringing from inside her room.

She hurried back, thinking it might be Chris calling, but it turned out to be an unmarked number.

Even though the number wasn't labeled, Scarlett immediately recognized who was calling.

After all, she could tell from the caller information that this was a call from Lumaria, and such a call could only be from Sebastian.

Scarlett answered and sat down in the lazy chair nearby.

"What's wrong?"

Having just been gently lectured by Marco, Scarlett's tone was somewhat listless.

Sebastian, on the other end, immediately heard something was off. "Were you scared?"

The question came out of nowhere, but Scarlett understood immediately. He must have gotten the news faster than she did, so he was referring to the red-haired man from earlier.

She didn't contradict him, just sank deeper into her chair. "Who was that person?"

"Still unclear." Sebastian's tone was calm, as if he was deliberately suppressing his emotions, seemingly afraid of affecting the person on the other end.

Scarlett pouted slightly. "Is he related to Mr. Cooper?"

That man looked too much like Benjamin—no wonder she asked this question.

Sebastian couldn't refute it either. "Possibly, but not certain. If we find out, I'll tell you immediately."

"Really?" Scarlett was somewhat surprised.

Sebastian thought of Marco's message and let out an almost imperceptible sigh. "Really. I'll also tell Teddy that from now on, I won't hide anything from you."

Scarlett gripped her phone, her fingertips tightening slightly, her heart slowly accelerating because of Sebastian's promise.

She didn't respond to this statement, but Sebastian, on the other end, didn't stop talking.

"In a week, I'll come to Vesperia to see you."

Sebastian's initiative to get closer made Scarlett blush involuntarily. She turned her head, burying her face in a stuffed animal. "I don't want you to."

This refusal was soft and carried a hint of coquettishness.

Sebastian heard it, and his Adam's apple unconsciously bobbed. "But I want to see you."

It had been almost half a month since they last parted, and Scarlett's post-miscarriage recovery period was almost over.

The words, almost like a confession, made Scarlett's earlobes redden.

She lightly patted her cheeks to calm herself down.

She'd thought she'd already given up on Sebastian, but she didn't expect that his casual flirtation could still make her heart flutter.

She slowly exhaled, her voice deliberately flat. "I know."

Her feigned calm betrayed suppressed laughter.

Sebastian heard it and couldn't help but smile too.

This ambiguous phone call ended shortly after.

After despising her own lack of resolve, Scarlett quickly returned to her books.

It was almost January now, and her first exam was approaching. The pressure of studying and reviewing was beginning to intensify.

Around six in the afternoon, Scarlett finally finished her day of studying and was holding a fruit plate Libbie had brought while watching Vesperia's most popular TV drama.

It was a crime investigation series about reasoning and solving cases.

She couldn't find an English version, so she turned on English subtitles on the TV, treating it as practice with Vesperian.

Just as the protagonist was sneaking into the crime scene under the cover of night to collect clues, a jarring ringtone suddenly rang out in the room!

Scarlett was startled and nearly flung the fruit plate away.

Fumbling for her phone, she saw an unfamiliar number marked "INTERNATIONAL."

This meant it was an international call.

Scarlett frowned, not wanting to answer, so she hung up directly.

She thought someone had dialed the wrong number, but before she could put the phone down, the caller tried again.

Now she had to consider whether to answer this call.

The phone kept ringing, making it impossible for her to focus on the TV. Reluctantly, Scarlett finally answered.

"Hi."

However, the voice on the other end seemed to come from hell—a woman's voice, sharp and filled with anger.

"Hi? Scarlett Seymour! Did you really think you could become someone important just because of that baby in your belly? Put away your smugness, you bitch!"

Even though the voice seemed to have changed somewhat, Scarlett immediately recognized the caller's identity. "Ms. Morgan?"

Hearing Adeline's voice again, Scarlett had to admit she felt relieved.

From Teddy's previous explanation, she'd really thought Adeline was dead. Now she realized she'd been too narrow-minded.

"What? Miss me?" Adeline naturally heard the surprise in Scarlett's tone. Though she didn't agree with it, she still made a cold, sarcastic comment.

But Scarlett's words were obviously more hurtful.

"Not really. I just didn't expect Ms. Morgan to contact me." Scarlett shrugged slightly. Thinking of what Adeline had done before, she felt somewhat wary, but her words were sincere.

However, Adeline thought she was mocking the fact that she could only make one phone call a day, and her eyes immediately reddened with anger. "What are you so smug about! You..."

She was so angry that despite fumbling for words, she couldn't continue her sentence.

Scarlett found it strange. "Is there something Ms. Morgan needs from me?"

Based on Sebastian's previous explanation, his feelings for Adeline were purely utilitarian—there was no real affection between them. After seeing this clearly, Scarlett inevitably felt some pity when facing Adeline.

Therefore, when speaking, she always kept her voice gentler.

But Adeline was irritated by Scarlett's attitude, and her voice became even sharper. "What do you have to be smug about! I bet you don't even know what Sebastian did!"

Her tone became triumphant as she paused, then continued before Scarlett could speak.

"Aren't you curious about where your cousin went?"

Scarlett frowned, her previously relaxed expression becoming slightly tense, but her tone remained unchanged—still steady. "My cousin is at home, of course."

But this naive statement immediately triggered Adeline's loud laughter.

She laughed so hard she rolled on the bed, drawing attention from nearby caregivers, but since she made no other movements, they didn't approach.

Adeline's words continued.

"Idiot!" she cursed. "Your precious cousin was sent by Sebastian to Eldoria, to a psychiatric hospital in Westmont!"

"You're lying." Scarlett blurted out.

She would never believe such ridiculous news.

Regardless of Sebastian and Michael's relationship, just looking at George's love for Michael, she knew this had to be nonsense.

Scarlett's face turned cold. "Ms. Morgan, I understand you're probably not doing well right now, but that's no excuse to randomly insult others!"

"Excuse?" Adeline snorted with laughter. "Then go check for yourself."
