Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 203
Marco and his group quickly left the hospital room, but they'd left behind far too many bodyguards. Finn and his men guarded the outside, while Marco's men remained in the reception area. Almost every time Scarlett emerged from the bedroom, she made eye contact with at least two bodyguards.
"Ms. Seymour, is there anything you need?" Once eye contact was made, they would immediately stand and ask.
After a few such encounters, Scarlett decided to simply stay in the bedroom. Fortunately, it was fully equipped, so she could remain there comfortably without going out.
Sebastian's personal phone was indeed completely clean. His contacts list didn't save any numbers at all. The call history showed many incoming calls, but without labels—just strings of numbers with no indication of who they belonged to.
Scarlett couldn't remember Chris's phone number and had no idea which number she should call to reach him. So the personal phone in her hand seemed completely useless.
But soon, a text message arrived on the phone. When she heard the notification sound, Scarlett instinctively looked over. The message appeared as a banner at the top of the screen for a few seconds before disappearing.
Scarlett only had time to see Chris's name. Her heart skipped a beat, and she immediately swiped down to check the message.
When she read it, she was stunned for a long moment. The content was extremely simple, even formal and official: [This is Mr. Chris Wright's phone number.] Followed by a string of digits. Nothing else.
Looking at the number that sent this message, even without a saved contact, Scarlett could guess the sender's identity—it had to be Mark.
Scarlett copied the number and used Sebastian's social media account to tentatively send a friend request. [This is Scarlett Seymour.]
The reply came quickly. [Funny. You dare to hack Sebastian's account? You must be tired of living.]
From this response, it was clear the person didn't believe Scarlett's message. Scarlett wasn't surprised. Though Chris hadn't added Sebastian as a friend on his private account, as a wealthy young man in their circle, he would certainly know Sebastian's account—everyone did, to avoid inadvertently offending him.
She continued messaging. [I really am Scarlett Seymour. Shane betrayed me and revealed my location to Sebastian. My phone is missing, and Sebastian gave me his to use.]
This explanation was clearer. The other side approved her request instantly and immediately initiated a video call.
"It really is you!" The moment the call connected, Chris's voice cracked. He had apparently just showered—his upper body was bare with a towel casually draped over his head. His eyes were wide with surprise as he quickly adjusted the camera angle. In an instant, Scarlett could only see his face, and barely half of it at that.
"What's going on?" Chris still hadn't grasped the situation. But before Scarlett could speak, he asked, "Shane really dared to do this?"
Hearing this, Scarlett tilted her head. "You already guessed?"
"I had a feeling, but I thought with Shawn involved, he wouldn't dare." Chris was drying his hair, and even with just half his face visible, his frustration was evident. "Shane has always put his interests first. Sebastian must have paid him handsomely to make him talk!"
Scarlett fell silent for a moment, not responding.
"Wait, I'm going to tell Shawn about this right away!" Chris was still indignant.
But as soon as he said this, Scarlett stopped him. "Don't bother. What good would it do? You don't know—there are at least ten people watching my hospital room door right now."
She spoke with resignation, but Chris immediately caught the key point. His camera suddenly went black, though his voice remained. "Why are you in a hospital?"
Scarlett pressed her lips together, then finally explained everything that had happened to her in Calvessa. By the time she finished, Chris's camera had returned to normal. In the frame, he was wearing a plain white long-sleeved sweatshirt, his hair still wet.
"You dared to run away in that situation?" Chris's eyes showed exasperation. "No matter what, shouldn't you have contacted me first before going out?"
Scarlett knew she had been foolish in this matter. The tips of her ears turned slightly red. "I thought he wouldn't arrive until that evening."
"Did you forget who I am?" Chris rolled his eyes dramatically. "Since I was fifteen, I've been racing all over the world. Is there any country where I don't have friends?"
Hearing this, Scarlett suddenly realized the convenience of Chris's identity as a race car driver. "So now..." Her eyes filled with hope.
"None of my friends can snatch someone from more than ten strongmen." Chris immediately cut her off and changed the subject. "By the way, do you know how miserable Adeline has been back home lately?"
Hearing this, Scarlett's disappointment at being refused hadn't even fully registered before his words captured her attention. "Why would she be miserable?"
"Recently, someone leaked how the Morgan family originally connected with the Howard family." Chris sat down on a sofa, casually turning on a TV before focusing entirely on his phone. "It all starts with Graham."
When Chris mentioned Graham, Scarlett immediately thought of what had happened before. "What exactly happened that day outside Number 5 Skylake Road?"
Chris had been planning to share the news he'd heard, but Scarlett's question caught him off guard. His expression froze momentarily before quickly turning puzzled. "I don't know about that."
"There's something you don't know?" This immediately earned Scarlett's teasing. After all, though he spent most of his time racing outside Sovereign City, no news within the city escaped Chris's ears.
Chris glanced at Scarlett's smiling face on the screen, her eyes curved into crescents. He raised an eyebrow, his words pointed. "I'm not all-knowing. Besides, when certain people want to keep information secret, how could outsiders easily find out?"
In truth, almost no one in Sovereign City knew exactly what Graham had done that day. People only knew that this illegitimate son of the Howard family had touched some forbidden domain, resulting not only in pursuit by the domestic government but also an investigation order from international police.
Fortunately, the Howard family had always maintained clear separation from Graham, so they weren't affected by his actions.
Scarlett understood Chris's meaning—Sebastian had suppressed the information. She was silent for a moment, then thought of what Chris had mentioned earlier. "Why start with Graham when talking about how the Morgan family connected with the Howard family?"
Hearing this question, Chris immediately perked up. "Have you heard the name Sophia?"
While Scarlett might not have recognized other socialites' names, she had definitely heard this one. Her expression froze. "I know her. She was the mistress of the Howard family's second son. She gave birth to an illegitimate child abroad."
"Yes, and that illegitimate child is Graham."
