Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 66

5 min 2 views

The villa nestled in the woods quickly returned to silence after its brief moment of activity.

When the black Maybach arrived, the only sounds were the fading rumble of the car engine and the gentle tinkling of wind chimes stirred by the breeze.

Sebastian entered, the hallway lights illuminating then dimming behind him as he moved through the entrance.

Libbie was standing at the living room entrance when he reached it. Seeing her, Sebastian paused. "Where is she?"

A flicker of unease crossed Libbie's face before quickly disappearing. She smiled. "Ms. Seymour wasn't feeling well, so she left."

Sebastian's hand froze as he unfastened his wristband. His eyes coolly assessed Libbie. "When?"

"Just a little while ago. She looked unwell, only stayed briefly before leaving." Libbie continued speaking, but Sebastian had already turned and was heading back outside.

Mark had thought he could finish work early tonight. He was backing up the car when he saw the villa's front door open again.

Despite his quick response—stopping, shifting gears, and pulling the handbrake—by the time he got out, Sebastian had already reached the vehicle.

"Find out where she went," came the cold command as Mark opened the door.

Mark didn't dare question him. He nodded and returned to the driver's seat. Soon, information arrived on his phone. "Mr. Howard, we've discovered Ms. Seymour went to Silverleaf Health Center."

Sebastian said nothing from the back seat. Mark promptly drove toward the health center.

The sports car Scarlett had borrowed from Chris was far too conspicuous. As soon as she parked in the hospital lot, people began taking photos. Alarmed, she quickly grabbed a cap Chris had left in the car.

Though too large for her, it served its purpose perfectly. Scarlett kept her head down as she exited the vehicle, the wide brim completely concealing her face.

Fortunately, the crowd's attention focused on the flashy car, not on her. Only a few people photographed her retreating figure while everyone else admired the exceptional vehicle.

This made it easy for the black Maybach to spot her exact location when it entered the parking lot.

"Mr. Howard, Ms. Seymour's car is over there."

Sebastian, hand resting near his temple, cast a cold glance in that direction. "We'll wait."

They waited for nearly an hour. Mark sat in the driver's seat, eyes fixed unblinkingly on the hospital exit, while Sebastian remained motionless in the back seat.

Finally, Scarlett emerged with her test results. Still wearing Chris's oversized cap that hid almost half her face, her visible lips curved in a relaxed smile.

"Ms. Seymour has come out. Should I approach her?" Mark reported, listening for instructions.

Upon hearing approval, Mark walked directly toward Scarlett, who was folding the report envelope to put in her backpack.

"Ms. Seymour."

Her smile froze as she looked up. "Mr. Rogers."

Seeing Mark, Scarlett instinctively scanned her surroundings until she spotted the Maybach parked near Chris's flashy sports car.

Did he follow me here? She frowned, increasingly regretting borrowing Chris's car.

"Ms. Seymour, please, Mr. Howard is waiting for you." Though Mark's tone wasn't pushy, Scarlett understood she had no choice.

Realizing escape was impossible, she followed Mark to the vehicle. Sebastian sat in the back, half-illuminated, his long legs bent, tailored trousers without a wrinkle, thin-soled leather shoes gleaming softly.

Scarlett took a deep breath before getting in. They hadn't seen each other for three full days, not even exchanging a single message.

"What's wrong with you?" As soon as she entered, a large hand extended toward her.

Scarlett clutched her test results tighter, then reluctantly extracted a few pages and placed them in his hand. But his hand didn't move.

Scarlett feigned ignorance and remained still. Sebastian withdrew his hand, and she breathed a sigh of relief—but before she could fully relax, he spoke.

"There's one more. Hand it over." His voice brooked no argument.

"This is just the payment receipt," she lied, looking down at the corner of the papers she still held.

Clearly, he didn't buy it. His cold gaze swept over her before settling on the test result paper nearly crumpled in her grip. With his long reach, he easily grabbed it.

Scarlett froze momentarily, then pulled back harder. They began a tug-of-war over the piece of paper.

"Let go!" She used all her might to resist, her pale face flushed with effort, while Sebastian remained calm, alternately loosening and tightening his grip like someone teasing a cat.

After several rounds, Sebastian lost patience. His voice deepened. "We're going to Evercrest Memorial Hospital."

These words startled Scarlett. The private facility built on a mountainside catered primarily to high-profile individuals requiring extreme confidentiality. Her only previous visit had left her traumatized.

After their first intimate encounter, she had experienced severe abdominal pain that eventually caused her to pass out.

Sebastian had gone to his study, and when he returned, found her unconscious. When she next awoke, she was in the hospital with a diagnosis of a ruptured corpus luteum caused by overly vigorous activity.

The experience had mortified her. Even though she knew their relationship wasn't unusual, facing the doctors and nurses had made her feel deeply ashamed.

The mere thought of returning there made Scarlett tremble involuntarily. This momentary distraction caused her to loosen her grip, allowing Sebastian to easily pull the test result from her hand.

Scarlett watched anxiously, pressing her lips together, as Sebastian glanced at the paper and his brow furrowed.
