Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 217

Sebastian's Adam's apple bobbed at her accusation, his eyes darkening. But he didn't anger. "I'll tell you about your background at the appropriate time," he said evenly. "You don't need to learn about it from some stranger with unclear motives."

He deliberately emphasized "unclear motives," revealing his wariness of the man who had appeared at the hospital room door.

Scarlett wouldn't accept this. She lifted her chin, her tone unusually light. "I want to see him."

Sebastian was clearly against it.

He didn't speak, letting his silence answer her request.

Seeing this, Scarlett stood up and walked toward the bedroom. Her eyes held mockery and coldness as she looked at Sebastian, while inside, waves of chill washed through her, making even her fingertips go cold.

"So much for your promise."

The sound of a door locking echoed again. This time, the atmosphere in the room didn't ease at all. Instead, it grew heavier with each passing moment, filled with an intense coldness.

Some time later, a knock at the door suddenly broke the silence.

Like lightning cutting through a deathly fog, the sound jolted the man from his silent state.

He rubbed his brow. "Come in," he said, his voice quiet but penetrating.

The door opened quickly to reveal Marco.

He poked his head in first, and seeing no sign of Scarlett in the living room, his gaze immediately went to the closed bedroom door. "Still fighting?"

When alone together, Marco preferred to speak in Seraphine.

Sebastian sat down on the sofa, crossing his legs with elegant grace, though his voice betrayed his exhaustion. "She wants to terminate the pregnancy."

Marco was stunned. He instinctively glanced again at the closed bedroom door, wondering how Scarlett could be so stubborn.

But he quickly remembered Sebastian's activities the previous night.

Marco had received considerable first-hand information from Olivia.

He frowned, choosing his words carefully. "Is it because of that woman on Virella Island?"

As the brother of Sebastian's late mother, Marco held Sebastian's complete trust. Many of Sebastian's plans weren't hidden from him.

This wasn't just out of trust, but also because he needed Marco's influence.

So their conversations could skip many explanations.

Sebastian didn't speak, just made a sound of agreement.

"If that's the reason, I think you should explain everything clearly," Marco advised. "Seymour is pregnant and already emotionally vulnerable. If you keep hiding things, you might lose more than you gain."

Marco spoke directly, with the wisdom of experience.

"I tried to explain, but she doesn't believe me," Sebastian said flatly. He leaned back against the sofa, his expression darkening as he exhaled heavily and changed the subject. "Any news from the other matter?"

He knew his uncle wouldn't voluntarily inquire about his personal affairs unless it was a pretext for discussing business.

Sure enough, hearing Sebastian's question, Marco immediately set aside his curiosity and shared the news he'd just received.

"She contacted her people. Teddy traced the call and found an address—Hustane in Eldoria, 302 Nickor Avenue."

At this address, Sebastian immediately looked up, his eyes brightening.

"That's the gentleman's address."

He raised an eyebrow, his tone heavy with understanding.

"Are you going?" Marco frowned, seeing his reaction.

Sebastian waved dismissively. "Going now would be pointless. I'll have Adeline sent to Eldoria for continued surveillance."

As he spoke, he rested his fingers on his chin, stroking it thoughtfully. "Perhaps having Shane meet with James might uncover some valuable information."

When he finished, Sebastian looked at Marco. "What do you think?"

"Shane Wright?" Marco had little impression of Shane, but after thinking for a moment, some memories surfaced. "Him? That could work. At least on the surface, he has no connection to us."

Sebastian nodded. "I'll inform him and have him depart quickly."

Marco nodded as well.

With business matters concluded, Marco's gaze returned to the closed bedroom door.

"You should try to persuade her. If necessary, I could call Olivia to help."

Sebastian glanced at his watch. "No need. I've arranged for someone to come."

"Who?" Marco asked, puzzled.

"Libbie." Sebastian was concise, but fearing Marco might not remember, he added, "The servant who was with my father, who later cared for my mother."

Recognition dawned on Marco's face. "Ah, her! The one who cooks incredibly well!"

He unconsciously licked his lips as he spoke.

The last time Marco had seen Libbie was before his sister Lucia's death. Just hearing her name made his mouth water, so fond were his memories of her cooking.

Sebastian wasn't surprised by Marco's reaction. The corner of his mouth lifted. "When she arrives, I'll have her prepare a meal for you too."

"Excellent!" Marco nodded eagerly.

"However, I need you to keep an eye on Benjamin Cooper."

Before Marco's anticipation could fully settle, Sebastian's request followed.

"Benjamin Cooper?" Marco hadn't been formally introduced to Benjamin that day, so the name sounded only vaguely familiar, and he couldn't match it to a face.

"Yes, though he now goes by William Thorn." Sebastian hadn't investigated Benjamin directly—the man's identity was too sensitive. If he actively looked into him, he might attract attention from the groups monitoring Benjamin.

If they only targeted Sebastian, that would be manageable. But if they turned their attention to Scarlett, that would be truly problematic.

"He has red hair, Uncle Marco. You might remember him."

Names alone didn't trigger Marco's memory, but the mention of red hair did.

Still, he couldn't recall who it was, only that one of his subordinates had mentioned it.

"Why watch him?"

"He knows certain things—things Letty shouldn't know yet." Sebastian's eyes darkened slightly as his fingers tapped on the armrest beside him, his tone steady and calm.

Marco knew some of the background.

Hearing this, he simply smiled before advising, "Must you keep her in the dark? Remember that old Lumarian saying—'What's suppressed too long will eventually rebound.'"

The saying was particularly apt in this situation.

But Sebastian just smiled. "Uncle Marco, that's just an old saying."

Marco made a face, about to argue that wasn't the point, when Sebastian spoke again.

"Don't worry, I don't intend to hide things from her forever. But with the current uncertain situation, letting her contact Benjamin would create unnecessary complications."

As they spoke, they made no effort to lower their voices or be discreet.

After all, there was no one else present.

But they had forgotten about Scarlett, separated from them by just a door.
