Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 211
Sebastian stood at the doorway, in no rush to enter. He quietly watched Adeline having a complete meltdown inside the hospital room.
She hadn't noticed him yet and was still hysterically throwing whatever she could grab. If her dominant hand hadn't had its tendons cut, rendering it weak, she probably would have tried to throw the medical equipment as well.
"Sebastian?"
Adeline spotted him at that moment. Her tone softened briefly, but quickly turned accusatory.
"You finally came to see me?"
Her good mood lasted only a second before she grabbed a nearby water glass and hurled it at Sebastian!
"I was so good to you! And this is how you treat me?"
This scene startled Teddy. Although the estate's security guards were present, for a monitored individual from Lumaria, Teddy was clearly the more appropriate handler. He had already been operating at high intensity all day, and even someone made of iron would be worn out.
So even though Teddy responded immediately, he couldn't stop the water glass flying toward Sebastian.
But Sebastian neither dodged nor flinched. The glass grazed his shoulder and fell straight to the ground before even reaching the wall behind him. The porcelain shattered with a crisp echo.
Sebastian didn't even look at it. He pulled a chair next to the hospital bed and sat down, his movements smooth and composed, as if the angry, resentful attack had been nothing more than insignificant dust.
"You seem to be in good spirits."
His tone was casual, as if discussing the evening weather.
Seeing his nonchalant demeanor, Adeline felt increasingly aggrieved. "Don't you have anything to explain to me? I was brought here and locked up by him!" She jabbed her finger toward Teddy. "Don't you have anything to say about that?"
Sebastian looked up, his deep gaze resting on her face, flushed with agitation. His tone was as flat as still water. "Explain what?"
"Explain why I was brought here! I was just traveling! Why are you treating me like this?" Adeline's voice carried an obvious sob. "I always thought we were the closest family..."
This manipulation made Sebastian raise an eyebrow. His fingertips lightly tapped the armrest of the chair, creating a rhythmic sound that seemed like the beat of judgment, pounding on Adeline's increasingly panicked heart.
"Family?" Sebastian sneered, as if he'd heard a joke. "I gave you a chance, didn't I?"
The contemptuous question made Adeline's heart sink as she recalled their previous conversation. His meaning had been very clear: if she stayed quiet and behaved, she wouldn't want for anything.
But had she listened? Clearly not.
Adeline had never been an obedient person; she only pretended to be because she knew Sebastian liked obedience.
But Adeline wouldn't pretend on her deathbed. She had never thought Scarlett would threaten her position. At first, she believed Scarlett was just a plaything, never expecting that Sebastian would genuinely care for her. Moreover, the Scarlett he cared for was now carrying his child. Where did that leave her?
Sunset Lake Villa certainly held special meaning for Sebastian, but that place was notorious for being haunted. Letting her live there—what was Sebastian's intention? It wasn't hard to guess. At least, not for Adeline.
Every day she lay in that villa, she felt like the vengeful spirit of Graham's father was present. She lived in constant fear, only to end up with a haunted house.
How could Adeline accept that? She had returned to the country after ten years, not for a haunted house that couldn't be sold and some pocket money insufficient for the rest of her life. Since she had the opportunity to marry into the Howard family, how could she possibly give up such a chance?
Adeline didn't know how to defend herself. Her eyes darted around as her mind raced without a moment's rest.
"You followed me to Seraphim, I won't pursue that," Sebastian said, surprisingly accommodating. "What you've done, let bygones be bygones. You can't return to Lumaria, but I'll send you to Eldoria."
Hearing this, Adeline immediately looked up, her eyes sparkling with hope. "Sebi..."
This arrangement was undoubtedly like changing a death sentence to life imprisonment. Given enough time, if Sebastian had a change of heart, her "life sentence" might even be commuted.
Not just Adeline, but even Teddy instinctively looked up when he heard this, his usually wooden face showing clear confusion and disapproval for the first time. His gaze moved between the two of them.
For the first time, the man who only followed orders felt the urge to complain—could Sebastian truly have developed feelings for Adeline?
"I won't take you back," Sebastian interrupted just as Adeline began to speak. His tone was excessively cold, but it only extinguished the hope in Adeline's heart for a moment. Quickly, she continued, "I'll wait for you."
Sebastian didn't respond. He simply stood up, and just before leaving the room, he turned back with a warning: "Before that, you'd better clean up your loose ends. Next time, only a sanitarium awaits you."
From anyone else, such words might be taken as a joke, but coming from Sebastian, they were deadly serious.
Adeline knew Sebastian wasn't joking. James had also mentioned that the charges against Graham were enough to keep him in prison for life.
Of course, Adeline knew that James had likely pinned some of his own crimes on Graham to evade old investigations. She nodded immediately, fearing that even a second's delay would prevent Sebastian from seeing her determination.
But Adeline quickly realized a problem. "What about my phone?"
If she needed to clean up loose ends, her personal phone was essential.
Sebastian's expression remained unchanged. He glanced at Teddy, who was now leaning forward slightly, mouth partly open, his face showing obvious confusion. Sebastian ignored this and simply said, "Give her the phone."
"But..."
Teddy was dumbfounded and instinctively wanted to object, but under Sebastian's gaze, he couldn't get the words out. Under Sebastian's watchful eye, he slowly lowered his head and reluctantly pulled the phone from his back pocket, tossing it onto the bed. There was no politeness in the gesture, even a hint of dissatisfied venting. But no one blamed him.
Adeline immediately reached for the phone.
Sebastian's gaze followed the phone as it landed on the pristine bed, then he withdrew his attention and left the room without a backward glance.
Teddy glanced at Adeline, who was holding the phone with a face full of smiles. His brow furrowed slightly as he hurried to follow Sebastian out.
"Mr. Howard!"
Once outside the room, Teddy immediately called to Sebastian, who was walking toward the elevator. Sebastian stopped and turned to look at him.
Teddy rushed over and voiced his concern: "Mr. Howard, are you really planning to arrange things this way for her?"
