Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 223

5 min 2 views

Sebastian was just stepping out of the elevator when he received the call, handing a photograph in a transparent sealed bag to a Seraphim agent behind him. "What's her name?" he asked.

Finn quickly turned to ask the woman her name.

"Libbie Glover," she replied.

Finn relayed the name to Sebastian, who had already rounded the corner and caught sight of the group standing outside the hospital room. Without responding, he ended the call and strode purposefully toward them.

Finn was still waiting for an answer when he heard the call disconnect. As confusion crossed his face, a colleague nudged his shoulder. "Mr. Howard is coming."

He immediately looked down the corridor and, seeing Sebastian approach, lowered his phone and waited silently.

Libbie, standing in front of them, had clearly heard the comment about Mr. Howard's arrival and followed everyone's gaze.

"Libbie," Sebastian said as he reached them, his eyes settling on her with a calm demeanor. "You got here quickly."

Libbie smiled. "I was worried Ms. Seymour might be hungry."

Seeing them converse, Finn relaxed his shoulders, realizing Libbie hadn't been lying.

"Mr. Howard," he greeted respectfully.

Sebastian merely glanced at him before escorting Libbie into the room, not even offering Finn the simplest acknowledgment. This was clearly unusual.

The two Seraphim agents following Sebastian displayed even more hostile attitudes. These men, who normally exchanged pleasantries with Finn's team, now wore serious expressions. They gave Finn's group a cursory glance before taking over their positions.

Since being assigned to this hospital, Finn's team had always occupied the central position outside the hospital room. This placement symbolized their highest authority over all visitors and outside matters—a status that even Marco's personal guards couldn't challenge.

Yet now, Sebastian's Seraphim bodyguards had broken this protocol.

Finn immediately took offense. He stepped forward, frowning as he warned, "Hey, boys, aren't you in the wrong position?"

The Seraphim agents looked down at him, then exchanged glances before smoothly stepping aside, as if their earlier behavior had indeed been a mistake.

Finn didn't register anything suspicious and simply returned with his colleagues to their original positions.

But their team's lone Seraphim member observed everything. The targeted behavior put him on alert—years of working together told him that some friction had developed between Sebastian and Shane.

Inside the hospital room, the nursing staff was trying to convince Scarlett to eat more. A pregnant woman consuming only a few broccoli florets before setting down her fork, combined with her desire for an abortion, seemed concerning to them.

"Our Ms. Seymour certainly can't stomach that," a slightly haughty voice suddenly came from the doorway.

Everyone turned to look. Curled up on the small sofa, Scarlett also glanced toward the familiar voice. When she spotted Libbie, her eyes brightened. She bolted upright, her voice sharp with surprise: "Libbie?"

"Ms. Seymour." Libbie was equally excited to see Scarlett. She rushed forward, taking Scarlett's hands and examining her closely. "You've lost weight. You haven't been eating properly."

Scarlett couldn't help but smile. "Well, they serve practically the same thing every day. I'm sick of it."

"Alright then, I'll cook something fresh for you. What would you like?" Libbie patted her hand gently, her tone warm and nurturing.

"Clam chowder," Scarlett replied immediately, her rapid response revealing how long she'd been craving it.

Libbie nodded, but without ingredients on hand, she would need to go shopping.

Sebastian instructed a Seraphim agent to accompany her, then sat down beside Scarlett. The nursing staff had already left, and all the food had been cleared from the coffee table.

"Back so soon?" Unlike her warm reception for Libbie, Scarlett's tone with Sebastian was flat, even slightly avoidant. Their parting less than an hour ago had not been peaceful. Both were harboring unspoken frustrations.

Faced with her cool attitude, Sebastian remained calm. "I told you time is limited."

The words sounded like a reminder. Scarlett frowned, not understanding what he meant.

Sebastian continued, "Since you want to terminate the pregnancy, it's better to do it sooner rather than later."

Although the idea of terminating the pregnancy had originated with Scarlett, hearing him speak so calmly about rushing it left her feeling resentful. Yet she had nothing to say, so she just pursed her lips and sat silently on the sofa.

Sebastian seemed not to notice her subtle emotional shift. "Once you've recovered physically, you'll prepare to enter the Verrinelle Academy of Design."

This development was clearly outside Scarlett's expectations. She froze, immediately looking at Sebastian. He met her gaze, his eyes deep and serious. "I'll arrange everything for you. All you need to do is focus on your studies."

Scarlett was stunned for a long moment. She opened her mouth several times before finally asking, "Why?"

Sebastian simply asked, "Do you want to go?"

Of course she wanted to! This was Scarlett's only thought. She nodded, but immediately felt a strange uneasiness spreading from deep within her.

Sebastian had previously rejected all her requests to study abroad. Even when universities had offered exchange opportunities, he had deliberately sabotaged them. Why this sudden change of heart?

Scarlett frowned, thinking for a moment before suddenly remembering her background. Given Wesley's reputation abroad, she could indeed become a target while studying overseas. Sebastian's previous actions seemed somewhat justified in that light. But he had just reminded her to conceal her identity, and now he wanted to send her abroad?

Had something else happened? With this thought, Scarlett glanced quickly at Sebastian and immediately asked, "Why did you suddenly change your mind? Have those people in the background been dealt with?"

"No," Sebastian answered directly.

Hearing this, Scarlett was even more confused. "Then why would you—"

"I'll assign people to protect you," Sebastian cut her off.

Scarlett continued to frown, silently wondering, "If you could do this all along, why make me wait so long?" With this thought, her eyes carried a hint of reproach as she looked at Sebastian.

Sebastian returned her gaze calmly for a moment before lowering his eyes, mentally calculating the feasibility of sending Scarlett to study abroad.

Enrollment wouldn't be a problem, but he worried that because of Benjamin, those people would watch her closely. Moreover, the identity of that Lumarian man still hadn't been determined.
