Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 192
Scarlett quickly left Shane's study.
Shane's words still echoed in her ears. At first she felt a bit embarrassed, but soon Scarlett sensed something was off.
When they left Seraphim, they had specifically arranged other vehicles to distract attention. Even if Sebastian had eyes and ears everywhere, this was abroad—no matter what, it would be impossible for him to track them down in just one day, unless someone tipped him off.
Of course, Scarlett didn't suspect Shane.
He was part of the Wright family—he shouldn't do something like that.
But that made Shane's words seem forced. Scarlett couldn't deny that what he said was completely correct, but using this kind of reason to keep her in the room—wasn't that a bit too much of a stretch?
Scarlett walked around the room while thinking.
But before long, drowsiness washed over her, even though Scarlett had just woken up not long ago.
She went back to the bedroom and slept. When she woke up again, it was almost evening. There was food on the table beside the bed, still warm to the touch.
After eating in bed, Scarlett had nothing to do again. She didn't want to go out, so she could only curl up on the window seat cushion in a daze.
She sat curled up on the window seat, knees against her chest, the thin blanket she'd just put on draped loosely over her shoulders.
The neon lights outside shattered against the glass and seeped into her eyes, but her gaze was unfocused, as if her thoughts had been pulled away by the night outside the window.
Her fingertips unconsciously traced the cold window ledge. The occasional car lights flashing below didn't make her eyelashes move even once—she just let herself sink into this quiet space.
Scarlett couldn't help thinking about Sebastian.
This time she had finally escaped, but what would happen to Libbie and Teddy?
Would that Sebastian punish them because of this?
No, probably not, right?
Scarlett buried her face deep in the crook of her arm, her thoughts flying wildly.
Since he wanted the child in her belly, then these past few days of pursuit must also be for the child, right?
She let out a deep sigh, her heart wrapped in endless gloom.
Rain suddenly started falling outside the window. First came the sparse sound of rain, falling on the outer edge of the window sill, then thunder sounded, and the raindrops gradually became denser, like countless fine needles tapping against the glass.
Raindrops slowly flowed down the window glass, carving out bright traces.
These traces blurred the neon lights outside into a hazy glow that mixed with the rain mist and seeped into the room, casting bright light on the floor.
This should have been beautiful, but in Scarlett's eyes, it was just a superficial brightness.
She raised her hand and pressed it against the cold glass. The cold touch made the stuffiness in her heart surge up again.
The sound of rain grew louder and louder, almost drowning out all the subtle sounds in the room.
But it still couldn't drown out the messy thoughts in her head.
What should she do next? Even if this child was born, it couldn't grow up safely, and it might even... become the shackles that would keep her from ever escaping Sebastian's grasp...
Scarlett leaned over slightly, her forehead against the cool glass. As soon as she touched it, the coolness seeped into her bones, making even her breathing tremble.
Her hand unconsciously moved down, gently covering her lower abdomen—there was no baby bump yet, but just touching it at night was enough to make her heart race.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
The sudden knocking was like thunder on a rainy night, startling Scarlett so much that she immediately looked over, eyes wide open, like a frightened little animal.
She didn't speak, quietly waiting for the person outside to speak first.
"Ms. Seymour, are you awake?"
The voice outside was the maid's voice.
Scarlett breathed a slight sigh of relief and said, "I'm awake, you can come in."
The maid pushed open the door and saw Scarlett sitting on the window seat. She paused for a moment, then said, "You slept for a long time today."
Hearing this, Scarlett felt a bit embarrassed, smiled, and said nothing.
The maid had come to collect the dishes.
The bedroom was very quiet—almost the only sound was dishes clinking together.
Scarlett leaned back again, staring blankly at the rainy night outside.
This soon caught the maid's attention. Remembering Shane's instructions, she spoke up, "Ms. Seymour, if you're bored, I can bring you some paints."
At the mention of paints, Scarlett immediately perked up. "Really? But the paints I can use right now..."
Because of her pregnancy, some paints with certain ingredients couldn't be used, so if she wanted to paint, she would need to carefully select the paints.
"No problem, Mr. Wright has already arranged it," the maid said with a smile. "It seems you're interested. How about I bring them over now?"
Scarlett nodded and got down from the window seat.
The maid had already left—she still needed to take the dishes back to the kitchen.
Scarlett didn't follow her out, just watched the maid's retreating figure.
She sat down in the sitting area.
Having just eaten, and with the soft cushion beneath her, Scarlett soon felt sleepy again after leaning back.
And in this drowsy state, she heard servants talking outside.
"Why the sudden need to prepare another guest room?"
"I heard it's for an old friend of Mr. Wright's."
"That's really rare—Mr. Wright has old friends?"
"Listen to yourself. It's Mr. Wright's old friend, Sebastian Howard from Lumaria."
The servants' conversation was in English.
And now, Scarlett was extremely grateful that she hadn't fallen asleep.
The servants' conversation instantly woke her up, and even her already foggy mind became exceptionally clear and alert.
She immediately connected this to Shane's strange behavior and overly forced reasons.
It all seemed to be just to keep her here.
As for going to such lengths to keep her here—it wasn't because he was afraid something would happen to her outside, but because he was afraid Sebastian wouldn't see her when he arrived.
And that phrase about it being hard to explain...
Scarlett had originally thought it meant hard to explain to Shawn, but analyzing it from what those servants just said, it should be hard to explain to Sebastian.
Thinking of this, her breathing gradually became calm, her mind racing with thoughts.
Although just based on these two points—Sebastian coming and Shane's strange reasons—it wasn't enough to prove that Shane planned to hand her over to Sebastian.
But what if?
Scarlett simply couldn't afford to gamble on this.
She licked her lips, secretly making up her mind—she couldn't stay here any longer. She had to leave.
If she was really taken back by Sebastian, she probably would never be able to escape again, and her child would be given to Adeline to raise after birth.
As a mother, Scarlett absolutely would not allow such a thing to happen.
"What are you doing here? Don't slack off—we're busy tonight."
Just then, the maid's scolding voice came from outside the door.
