Let Me Go, Mr. Howard Chapter 54
George's gaze quickly moved from Sebastian to Orion. "Well, if it isn't Orion," he said. Though the greeting seemed familiar, there was a barely perceptible contempt in his tone.
Sebastian shifted his gaze from Orion to Scarlett, but before she could look back, he turned away and strode to the side.
He approached George and nodded slightly. George, preoccupied with the newcomers, gestured for Sebastian to sit down.
Edith pursed her lips and moved closer to Sebastian as he sat. He didn't reject her closeness; in fact, he didn't even glance at her, simply accepting her proximity.
Watching their easy intimacy, the flutter Scarlett had felt in her chest moments ago silently subsided. The light in her expression dimmed noticeably. Meanwhile, she was sheltered behind Chris and Orion who had entered.
"What brings you here?" George glanced at Sebastian, though his question was directed at Orion.
Orion smiled. "Just heard Mr. George Howard was throwing his weight around."
Unlike George's concern for reputation, Orion spoke without restraint, his retort causing George's expression to darken.
By now, the Seymour family members knew better than to interject.
George's gaze moved past Orion to Scarlett. He snorted, "You're standing up for Scarlett now?"
Scarlett remained silent. At this point, not only were Edith and the others unable to speak up, but she also dared not interject carelessly.
She lowered her head, fingers interlaced in front of her, the defiance from earlier now gone.
Sebastian's gaze lingered briefly on Orion, his emotions unreadable, before quickly looking away.
Edith frowned as she looked over, her eyes filled with disdain and jealousy when they fell on Scarlett.
"Of course I am. I'm offcially her boss now." Orion's response was measured and flawless, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
"What nonsense! Doesn't she work at the Howard Group?" Edith's eyes widened as she immediately spoke up.
Orion glanced at her coldly. "If I remember correctly, the Howard Group fired Ms. Scarlett Seymour this morning. She and I signed an employment contract not long ago."
After saying this, he looked back at George. "I wouldn't want your intimidation tactics to prevent my new employee from coming to work tomorrow."
While Orion verbally sparred with the group, Chris quietly asked Scarlett from behind, "Are you okay?"
Scarlett shook her head and glanced at Orion. "How did you think to call him?"
"I didn't call him," Chris shook his head. "When I arrived, his car and Sebastian's were already parked outside. Looks like they arrived just before me."
Hearing this, Scarlett frowned.
"A person who assaults her sister in public and has poor moral character—your company dares to employ such a person?" George's impression of Scarlett was poor, and he immediately questioned after Orion's statement.
Orion smiled faintly and glanced at Edith. "If we're talking about poor moral character, shouldn't that be Ms. Edith Seymour?"
Edith hadn't expected to be implicated. She immediately glanced at George, her face reddening with anxiety. "What—what are you talking about?"
Orion ignored her protest and turned to lead Scarlett and Chris to sit on a nearby sofa. The three sat close together, with Scarlett squeezed between the two men, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
"If Ms. Edith Seymour's moral character is unquestionable, why would she spread rumors that her sister is involved in compensated dating?" Orion's tone was calm yet mocking as his gaze moved across the faces of the Seymour family.
"If my intelligence is correct, Ms. Scarlett Seymour has been living with the Seymour family since she was four, correct?"
"A girl who received an elite education in the Seymour family from childhood—how could she possibly be involved in compensated dating? Unless someone is lying, or perhaps this family deliberately guided the girl in that direction. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Seymour?"
Orion wasn't just targeting George; he also mentioned David, frightening him so much that he kept wiping sweat from his brow.
"That's impossible. Mr. Watson, you must be joking," David hurriedly denied any suggestion that the Seymour family's education of Scarlett had been problematic.
Orion smiled and continued, "Previously, Ms. Scarlett Seymour worked at the Howard Group for five years. In those five years, no one ever questioned her moral character."
"In fact, no one even knew that Ms. Scarlett Seymour was the Seymour family's illegitimate daughter, or that her mother had worked at an entertainment establishment."
"All these rumors seem to have started only after Ms. Edith Seymour joined the Howard Group, isn't that right? Well, I really can't understand what happend." Orion's tone was exaggerated, his expression smugly provocative.
George used all his strength to maintain his composure. He hadn't expected Orion to know these things—accusations that implicated the Seymour family's moral conduct, which he didn't want outsiders, especially the Watson family, to know about.
George's expression instantly darkened. He glanced coldly at Scarlett, clearly believing she had told Orion these things.
Scarlett hadn't noticed George's glance. She just felt vindicated by Orion's words. Originally, she had wanted to say these things herself, but given George's attitude, she never found the opportunity. Now, hearing Orion speak, she felt somewhat relieved.
At the same time, she was curious about how Orion knew so many insider details, some of which even Chris didn't fully understand.
Sebastian sat with his legs crossed, leaning against the sofa backrest, his expression calm and composed. Edith, infuriated by Orion's words, turned to see Sebastian's demeanor and immediately rushed to him.
"Seb! It's not at all like Mr. Watson says!" Her actions at the Howard Group hadn't exactly been discreet.
Sebastian looked at her, his eyes inscrutable. Just as Edith was anxiously about to say more, Sebastian spoke. "Mr. Watson, where's your evidence?"
Everyone instantly looked at him. Scarlett watched Sebastian's composed demeanor, her heart twisting with pain. Even in this situation, was he still planning to side with Edith?
Sebastian's gaze lingered on her briefly before calmly shifting to Orion.
Chris was indignant. "Evidence? Everyone knows the Howard Group is in cahoots—"
Before he could finish venting his anger, Orion spoke with a smile, "I actually don't have evidence for that."
Just as the Seymour family members began to smirk with disdain, Orion's voice rose again. "However, I do have plenty of evidence of Ms. Edith Seymour bullying Ms. Scarlett Seymour."
