Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 19
Fiona's POV
"Blake? Is it really you?"
I took a step back, staring in disbelief at the large wolf in front of me. It just couldn't be possible for such a thing to happen. No one can be able to turn into a wolf at their own free will, not even in a freaking full moon for crying out loud! This was only heard of in books and movies. This cannot be real; and yet, as I stared at its dark eyes staring intently into my own, I had no choice but to believe it was really him. He simply nodded in response.
I turned away, staring off at the trees as I ran a trembling hand through my dark hair. I could feel its eyes watching me carefully, taking in my every move as if expecting me to run away, screaming frantically into the air as if someone could even hear me from this distance. I had to admit, it wasn't much of a bad idea. Any sane person would've done so in a heartbeat. And yet, here I was, walking around a pile of dead leaves trying hard to grasp the fact that the young man I had somehow fallen for within a week's time was actually a werewolf.
Wait, have I truly fallen for him already?
I stopped abruptly, looking back at him in puzzlement. It wasn't possible for someone to fall in love with another so quickly with barely any conversations passing through each other. There were the regular procedures that needed to be taken care of before one can actually say that they were falling in love with the person that they were with. But I wasn't even with Blake yet, nor did I believe that I would ever be for that matter. We were both from different worlds (literally), so there was no chance that we could ever be together. The mere thought broke my heart. I wanted nothing more than to be with him, regardless of the fact that he was a werewolf. Oh wait, I almost forgot that he was.
I walked towards the nearest tree and sat against it, taking in a deep breath as I gazed up at him before me. I had to admit, it was kind of strange seeing this wolf as Blake himself; and yet, since the first day I had laid eyes on it and the first time I ran into him, I had subconsciously assumed that they were both somehow connected. I didn't know exactly how they were, but I guess I had been right all along.
"So…" I paused, trying to come up with something to start a conversation with him.
"You're a wolf, huh?" I know, such an idiotic question. But I'm still in shock people! How would you like it if you were to suddenly find out that someone you knew and deeply cared about turned out to be some mystical creature you thought only existed in books?
He nodded once more, rolling his eyes before sitting on his hind legs. I had to admit, I found it kind of amusing that he couldn't respond. Weren't they supposed to communicate telepathically or something? Then again, I'm not a werewolf myself. That's a bummer.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I whispered quietly, much to my surprise. It was a question that had been stirring around in my mind the second I realized who this wolf truly was. Did he not trust me enough to not tell anyone in the school? And that only made me wonder, how many more were there? My head was now spinning with questions that I wanted to speak out loud and have them all be answered. But I don't think I'll be getting any at this point. I guess I'll settle for this one for the time being.
I heard him whimper softly before lying down on the ground, his head resting above his large paws. He reminded me of a lost puppy from the way he was looking at me. I couldn't help but feel sympathy over him. Suddenly, as if hearing his unspoken thoughts, I knew exactly why he hadn't told me.
A few seconds passed before I heard a soft sound of the leaves rustling as if someone was making their way towards us. Blake must have sensed it because his growls began to grow louder, warning whomever it was to simply turn around and walk away. Heck, I would've immediately done so if there was an angry wolf ready to attack me.
Suddenly, another large wolf emerged from the trees with a deathly glare directed right at Blake. The wolf wasn't as large as he was, but it was still large nonetheless. Its fur was a dark shade of brown with hazel brown eyes that matched perfectly. Due to its smaller size compared to Blake, it seemed as if he could instantly defeat the wolf in front of us in a heartbeat; but the way it moved gracefully towards us, its muscles flexing beneath its thick fur led me to know that this wolf was one that cannot be underestimated.
I pressed my back harder against the large tree behind me the second I felt its eyes on me. Its upper lip pulled back to reveal large canines as it snapped at me, receiving a loud and ominous growl in return from Blake. He stepped to his right where the other wolf was now standing to block out its vision. He hunched over, his shoulder blades clearly visible as his ears pressed down against his skull and another thunderous growl erupted from deep within his chest. He took a step forward, making my heart skip a beat after seeing that the distance between him and I had increased a great amount with that simple step. I just wanted him to be near me, but I knew he had to do something about this wolf who seemed to have his eyes fixated on me.
I noticed the brown wolf hunch even lower than Blake, preparing to pounce on him at any second before a loud growl echoed through the trees. I stared at Blake who had relaxed his stance in front of me, but his eyes were still locked with the other wolf's. The other wolf mimicked his actions, his eyes still trained on me without even bothering to glance Blake's way. Hmm, if it wasn't neither of them who had growled, then who was it?
As if answering my question, two large wolves emerged from where the brown wolf had previously entered. There was a significant difference between both of them involving their size. The one that was near me was a lot smaller than the other wolves with its fur being a light beige color. Its eyes were a bright blue shade that resembled that of the sky. He was quite beautiful despite the difference in size.
The wolf right beside him, who was sending daggers at Blake and the brown wolf, was close to Blake size. Its fur was pitch black with a hint of gray here and there. Its dark eyes were the same as Blake's, much to my surprise, and I couldn't help but notice how strong and tall it stood above the others. As if there was some sort of power emanating from its body in harsh waves that immediately made me want to bow down in respect. As I looked at the other wolves, I noticed that the brown wolf and Blake had done just that, their eyes never leaving their target not even once, which was starting to make me feel uncomfortable. As if hearing my thoughts, Blake stepped more to the side, completely blocking my view from the other wolf as I let out a sigh of relief.
I looked back at the other large wolf who was staring at Blake. It was as if they were having a private conversation with one another, which I wouldn't be surprised if they were because I immediately noticed Blake nod his head. He looked back at me, his eyes going back to their original shade before stepping away from me. I could tell he was having difficulty doing so because his steps were stiff and he kept throwing quick glances at the brown wolf who now had a clear view of me. Before disappearing into the trees, a low growl escaped his throat as he eyed the other wolf.
The second he disappeared, I felt my heartbeat pick up its pace and my breath come out in heavy pants as I kept eyeing the other wolves, not daring to look in the direction of the brown one. Although it was evident that it was a beautiful wolf in anyone's eyes, I couldn't help but feel frightened by it. The way it seemed to stare me down, like a predator eyeing its prey for any sort of weakness. I couldn't help but shudder under its heavy gaze.
Lucky for me, Blake suddenly emerged from the trees in his human form and back to the clothes he had worn for school today. He immediately stepped beside me, wrapping a strong arm around my waist and pulling me against him. I didn't dare protest because his touch calmed me down in an instant. I laid my head against his chest, feeling his body relax beneath me. Looking up at him, I noticed his eyes were once again pitch black as he stared at the brown wolf. I turned around, noticing the brown wolf give me one last glance before it disappeared into the trees with something in its mouth. Clothes maybe?
The second it left the clearing, I felt Blake's body relax entirely. He leaned his chin against my head and took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly.
I looked over to the other wolves who seemed to have disappeared along with the other one.
"Where did they go?"
He looked down at me, a forced smile spreading across his lips as his eyes seemed to lighten up. They weren't their original color, but it was close enough. "They'll be back in a second."
