Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 69
Fiona's POV
I walked down the third floor hallway, greeting the nurses that passed me by before stopping in front of room 311. I was about to grab onto the doorknob before the door swung open in front of me, revealing Dr. Samson who looked just as shocked as I was. He was wearing the same coat he always wore when visiting the patients, but the only thing that changed was his shirt and tie. His shirt was a beautiful, light blue shade and his gray tie complimented it very well along with his light gray eyes that glistened from the afternoon sun. The second he noticed me, a bright smile spread across his face and he stepped around me, closing the door in the process
"Fiona," he greeted, placing both of his hands inside the coat's pockets
I smiled, feeling my cheeks turn a light shade of red before looking down at the papers, immediately noticing that the one on top was specifically set for the room we were now standing in.
"Hi, Dr. Samson. I just came here to assist you, but I see you are already done with the patient," I said, eyeing the door to keep myself from looking back at him.
"Please," he said, raising a hand in front of him before saying,
"Call me Ben. I know I'm a doctor and all, but we've been working together for so long that it just seems a bit weird that you still call me that."
I couldn't help but giggle as I nodded in agreement.
"That is true. Okay then, Ben," I said, feeling weird as the name rolled off my tongue effortlessly,
"Do you need any more help?"
He shook his head before reaching out and grabbing the papers from my hands, something he had never done before. I stared up at him in bewilderment before he gave me a reassuring smile, securing the papers in his hands.
"Nope, I'll be fine. You, on the other hand, are going to go home and get some rest.
My mouth dropped open as I gaped up at him. Is he serious? I knew I had been working late hours recently and people weren't at all surprised to see me doing the night shift anymore, but even my original shift wasn't over yet. So why in the world is he sending me home this early
"Are you serious?" I asked, my eyes still wide open as I continued to gawk in his direction
He chuckled before nodding.
"Very. Now go on, go home and relax. You've been working way too hard lately and you need your rest."
"But I have the whole weekend. Leaving now would just be crazy," I argued, crossing my arms for emphasis as I stared up at him. I was in no mood to stay home to do nothing for the rest of the day and I was perfectly fine to continue working
"You're right," he said thoughtfully before shrugging. Well, that's not a good sign. "Still, an early vacation would never hurt anybody. You're actually the first person I've met who actually wants to work. That's something you don't see every day," he said, amusement clearly seen in his eyes
I pursed my lips, feeling slightly annoyed for the first time since I have worked with him.
"I'm a limited edition," I said sarcastically before letting out a soft sigh.
"Okay, fine. I'll go home early for today. But I'm still coming to work tomorrow."
He chuckled once more, nodding his head in the process.
"I don't think I can argue with you on that one. As long as you promise me you'll go home tomorrow at four."
I smirked.
"Do you really think I'm a person who actually leaves when they're supposed to from work?"
"No, you're definitely not," he said with a bright smile.
"But no working late tomorrow, missy," he scolded
I tilted my head in question, his gesture seeming all too familiar but I quickly pushed it aside. It's probably something not that important anyway.
"I'll try not to, but I can't make any promises though," I said with a shrug before I smiled.
"Alright then, I'll see you tomorrow. Dr. Sam- I mean, Ben." Again, that just felt weird.
He nodded, the same smile still plastered on his face as he began to turn and walk away.
"See you tomorrow, Fiona. Have a nice day."
I watched him as he disappeared around the corner before walking towards the large windows that lied on the other side of the hallway and leaned against the frame. Peering down the window, I could easily see my car parked safely under my favorite tree, probably glad that it doesn't have to sit there for an entire day again before a dark shadowy figure caught my attention from the corner of my eye. Turning my gaze towards the source, I was surprised to find that there was absolutely nothing where I had seen it. I had noticed it standing a few parking spaces away from my own under another tree, but there was nothing there. It was probably a shadow or something, Fiona. Hmm, maybe I do need some rest. Shrugging my shoulders, I made my way towards the stairs and back down to the first floor. Waving at Clara who still sat on the computer typing furiously on the keyboard, I collected my items and exited out of the building, feeling extremely weird to be coming out at this time instead of the usual night hour. This is what happens when I work for far too long in this place. Then again, I was never one to complain about my long hours either. I tended to be the one who always requested it anyway
Pulling out my keys from inside my bag, I reached out and unlocked my car before I felt an eerie feeling as if I was being watched. Turning around slowly, my eyes darted all around the parking lot before a dark figure zooming quickly behind the building to my right caught my attention. By the time I looked, there was absolutely nothing there. Okay, so either there's somebody watching me or I'm just going crazy. Neither one of them is good, but I have to admit that I was hoping to God that I was going crazy rather than the other. Having somebody stalk you is not a pleasant feeling. Trust me, I know
Trying my best to ignore the sensation, I quickly placed my belongings in the backseat before plopping myself in the driver's. Without hesitation, I pushed the key in the ignition and turned it, relieved to find my car starting up quickly. She has had her problems when it came to turning on, so you would understand why I was grateful to have her roar to life instantly
Slowly backing out of the parking space, I exited the parking lot and made my usual drive home. It was a lot busier than usual since most of the students in the elementary school on my way home were just coming out, so I had to patiently wait as I slowed down my speed to 15 mph. I'm not one to drive fast, but I'm not one to go this slow either
After a long, and dreadful, twenty minutes (it usually takes me ten when I work late), I parked my car and headed up to my apartment. I instantly placed my bag on the couch and made my way towards the bedroom to remove my uniform and settle myself for more comfortable clothing. I had to admit, even if I did enjoy working there, there was nothing like taking off your uniform and putting on sweatpants and a big t-shirt
Releasing my hair from its tight hold, I plopped myself on the couch and switched on the TV, surfing through the channels before settling on some network that sold jewelry. They were beautiful and all, but I was never one to wear that type of jewelry, let alone waste my money on something I knew I would never wear on a regular basis
An hour had passed by before my stomach began to rumble. Clutching my stomach, I laid the remote on the couch and made my way towards my small kitchen. Opening the cabinets, a frown laced my lips the second I noticed that I had yet to go to the grocery store and do my usual shopping. Not wanting to change into a pair of jeans and a decent t-shirt to go out in, I walked back onto my couch, only to regret doing so when my stomach grumbled once again
"You're not going to let me relax in peace, now will you?" I asked, looking down at my stomach which grumbled in response. I rolled my eyes with a loud groan echoing across the room.
"Alright then, you win," I said in surrender before walking back into the bedroom. And yes people, I talk to my stomach whenever I'm alone.
Who in the world goes grocery shopping at this time on a Thursday? I had already been going around the parking lot for the past fifteen minutes trying to find a parking space and having no such luck in finding one. I was about to give up and head on home until I noticed a couple walking towards their car before unloading their groceries from their cart. I immediately sped towards where they were and turned the blinker on to signal the other drivers that I was going to be the one to take the parking space. There was no way I was going to give it up that easily after desperately trying to find one.
I thrummed my fingers against the wheel as I patiently waited for them to finish placing their bags in their SUV when I looked over at the couple. The girl was smiling brightly up at the man as he placed the bags inside. When they were finished, he leaned down and placed a longing kiss on her lips while wrapping a secure arm around her small torso. She was quite small compared to his size and had to tippy-toe in order to complete the kiss. The mere sight made my stomach churn, and not because I was hungry this time
Averting my gaze to something else around the parking lot, it was then that I noticed the same dark figure appear from the corner of my eye. Unlike last time, I was able to catch a quick glimpse of it before it disappeared behind a large black SUV a few parking spots away from where I was waiting. I craned my neck, trying my best to see through the windows or below the car, but the windows were tinted and the car beside it was obscuring my view. I let out a heavy sigh before I noticed the couple entering their car and backing out of the parking space. Not wanting someone else to steal it from me (which has happened to me countless of times before), I rushed in and parked it the best way I could before grabbing my bag and exiting out of the car
Luckily for me, the couple had so kindly (as well as unkindly) left their cart right in front of my car. It was better than having to walk all the way inside only to find that there is absolutely none, so you had to go back outside and hope to God you found one laying around the parking lot. I guess today was my lucky day. Well, sort of.
Pushing the cart inside, I immediately headed off towards the vegetable court and began to get my necessities Most people in here would automatically go to the meat section, but again, I am a vegetarian. I always tried my best to avoid that area because seeing all of that meat always made me nauseous. I think even the people who worked in the back knew me as the vegetarian because I had to be the only customer who never went to that area. Oh well, not my fault.
