Fiona's POV

As if answering her unspoken wish, the intercom let out a loud beeping noise before the principal's secretary's voice was heard throughout the lunchroom. "Due to an emergency meeting from the Alpha, all students are asked to go home and proceed to their schedules tomorrow morning. Have a great afternoon students, and be extra careful when making your way home. Thank you.

With another loud beep, the lunch room was once more filled with silence until Sara's loud screech pierced the air

"Yes! Today must be my lucky day!"

I rolled my eyes as I made my way to the trashcan with her close behind, practically jumping with glee as she did so. I actually wondered where this girl got most of her energy half of the time.

Sara parked her luxurious Audi A4 on my driveway before turning to me with a smile.

"Home sweet home. You want me to come with you or do you think you'll be fine on your own?" She asked, clear concern evident in her eyes

I smiled reassuringly her way before grabbing my bag in front of me and opening the passenger door.

"I'll be fine. If anything, you can call me later on so we can talk."

Her smiled seemed a bit forced but she nodded otherwise.

"Okay. Stay safe, Fiona."

As I closed the door, I saw her bow her head in my direction before starting up the engine once more and making her way down the driveway. With a final wave, she sped down the street and turned the corner to head back to her own home. I honestly had no clue where she lived, but I guess it had to be near the pack house. Wherever that may be from where I lived. Okay, I know, I may have been there this past weekend but I barely paid any attention to the ride there

Shrugging my shoulders, I made my way inside, pulling out my keys from the front pocket of my bag in the same stride. Unlocking the door, I smiled brightly as I took in my surroundings. I may not have been born here or raised in this neighborhood, but for some reason, this house felt more like home to me unlike any other place I had ever stayed at. Even my original home back in Texas could never compare to this one. It did have the final memories of my mother within that household, but it always had something missing to it. I always felt it was because my mother had passed and she was the missing piece to this unfinished puzzle, but I was wrong. It was this place, Black Forest, Colorado, in which I had found my true home. The place I somehow knew I belonged. My smiled brightened as I made my way upstairs and into my bedroom. Dropping my bag beside my desk, I immediately went inside my closet and pulled out my sweatpants and one of my favorite old t-shirts I liked to wear whenever I was alone at home. Slipping them on and placing my school clothes in the dirty pile, I made my way back downstairs and into the kitchen where I decided to make an early dinner. Surprisingly enough, I barely had any homework for my classes so I was practically given the freedom to do as I pleased for the night. Not that I had anything planned though. My free nights usually consisted of doing some homework that's probably not due for another few weeks or finding something to watch on TV, which rarely happened. I mainly liked reading one of my favorite books for the thousandth time or something. I know, I may have just figured out I am going to be Luna of this pack one day, but I am still the same nerd at heart.

I pulled out the left over vegetarian casserole I had made the night before and placed it in the oven to heat for a few minutes. My dad had insisted it tasted delicious, but he barely ate any of it and left this entire batch for me to gulf down on my own. I didn't mind though, I loved my cooking. I don't want to sound conceited or anything, but I'm a pretty good cook. Even most of my relatives had told me so when I was chosen to make Thanksgiving dinner (well, the stuffing that is because I refused to cook a dead turkey) and they all loved it

After finishing up my early meal, I realized then that my dad had forgotten to take out the trash this morning. He always forgets though. That tends to be my duty like every other chore that one has to do in a house. I don't mind because I'm already used to doing it all on my own.

Placing the dirty dishes inside the dishwasher, I pulled out the garbage bag, tying it tightly before placing a clean one inside the bin. I looked towards the front door and the back one, deciding which one I should take until I decided to take the back one. The trash bin that the garbage truck would collect was on the front side of the house, but I preferred to admire the nature that I was so lucky to have around my home as I walked. Like I've said before, I am a huge nature person and every chance I got to being this close to nature was one I would easily take without question.

I left the door open behind me as I made my way to the side of the house and towards the front. The fallen leaves crunched beneath my slippers and there was a cold chill in the air. Winter was soon approaching and I had no doubt that snow was on its way. Dumping the trash inside the bin, I rubbed my shoulders to keep myself warm as I looked around the street. It was completely deserted and the only sound that could be heard was that of the wind howling through the trees, making them sway despite their large size.

Suddenly, I felt as if someone was watching me and I immediately turned around and searched the trees, trying my best to ignore my fast beating heart that thumped loudly in my chest. Brushing the odd feeling off, I made my way back to the back door and closed it shut as quickly as I could. I gazed out at the forest, my eyes roaming its edge before I let out a soft sigh. Being away from Marcus and experiencing that rogue attack first hand was putting me on edge. I had been like that all week. I would jump at the smallest of sounds and would keep my mind on high alert if anything were to come my way. Can you blame me though?

I closed the curtain of the back door and made my way towards the living room. Sitting down on one of the plump couches, I grabbed the remote from the coffee table and began switching through the channels, barely noticing what they were actually giving in each one. Deciding on leaving SpongeBob on, I turned up the volume and was greeted by the theme song which automatically made me smile. I had been watching this show for who knows how long and I always find myself humming to the theme music every single time.1I had already watched three episodes in a row, it seemed to be a marathon or something, before I felt myself slipping into darkness slowly. I shook my head, trying to wake myself up until the creaking sound of someone coming down the stairs brought my body into a sitting position.

I spun around quickly and turned towards the staircase, anticipating my dad to randomly come out of nowhere, but I was surprised to find no one. Being the curious little nerd that I am, I stood up slowly, taking soft, silent steps towards the hallway before I peered up the staircase. I craned my neck, trying to see over the top stair with little to no success.

Feeling slightly irritated from my small height, I took a few steps upward and tilted my head as I tried my best to listen closely for any unfamiliar or odd sound around the house. Receiving no response, I took a few more steps before calling out,

"Dad? Is that you?"

Silence was the only thing that greeted me as I made my way back towards the front door and turned right to enter my dad's study. I barely went in there since he was never home and when he actually was, he was sleeping on one of the couches with the TV on. I turned the knob slowly, grateful to find it unlocked before pushing the door wide open.+

"Dad?" I asked quietly, my breath suddenly caught in my throat as I noticed someone sitting in the chair behind my dad's desk. And that person was clearly not my dad.

The chair turned slowly before I finally took my first look to who was sitting in it. His light eyes bore into mine as a sly smile spread across his lips. He was completely shirtless, his attire only consisting of a pair of faded jean shorts hung low around his hips. He shifted back in the chair and placed both of his bare feet on top of the desk while placing both hands behind his head. His smile brightened as he took in my appearance, his eyes hungrily taking in my body at the door.

"Sorry, wrong person. But I must say, you do look extremely attractive even when you're wearing that kind of clothing." I took a step back only to find myself hitting the door frame in the process. I cursed myself in my mind as I continued to stare at him. How in the world had he gotten in here in the first place? It was like he had read my mind because he answered my unspoken question.

"It wasn't very wise of you to leave the back door open while throwing out the trash. You never know what, or who, is lurking about in the forest at this hour."

A surge of panic filled my entire body, making me quiver under his penetrating gaze before I made a run for it. I made my way up the stairs, hating how my body seemed to struggle with every step I took. I had no idea why I didn't just head out the front door screaming at the top of my lungs and hoping that one of my neighbors would hear me. But no, brilliant little old me had to head deeper into the house instead.

Unfortunately for me, he was a lot faster and the next thing I knew, I was being slammed against the wall between two picture frames holding old family pictures. I let out a gasp of surprise and stared into the eyes that have been haunting my dreams every night this week. I could feel my heart pounding loudly against my chest as I struggled to breathe against his tight hold.

"Missed me?" he asked, a sinister smile lacing his lips as he leaned forward and brushed them across my cheek, making me shiver beneath him.

"You know"

"What?" I whispered, my voice shaking due to the fear that was coursing through my body. Of all days to tell Sara to leave me alone, Maxwell just had to show up.

"I think we should put your little mate's strength to the test. Care to take a walk in the woods with me, love?"

I was about to protest when the sound of the home phone ringing interrupted us. He looked down towards the door with a frustrated expression before his now dark eyes turned to me.

"Whoever it is, don't you dare say I'm here. And if you even give off a slight hint of my company, I will not hesitate to tear your fragile body to shreds, understand?"

I nodded slowly before he released me and pushed me down the stairs rather forcefully. I walked towards the phone that was in the kitchen with him hot on my trail. It was hard to do so with my body shaking so violently and him being incredibly close in this empty house of mine.

With a shaking hand, I reached out and grabbed the phone, clicking the Talk button before asking in a rather shaking voice,

"Hello?"

"Fiona! It's me, Sara." She paused before asking,

"Are you alright? You sound a little shaken up."

I shook my head, remembering she couldn't see me before responding,

"No, I'm fine Sara. You made it home safely?"

"Yes." There seemed to be an edge to her voice but she didn't press on.

"I was wondering if tomorrow you wanted to hang out or something, just so we can keep our minds off of our men."

The idea made me smile weakly until I remembered Maxwell was standing right beside me, hovering over me with his dark eyes boring into the side of my head. I looked up at him and noticed that he was shaking his head from side to side with a stern look.

"Uh….no. I don't think that would be good, Sara."

"Why? Do you have plans?"

I looked back at Malcolm who was now nodding.

"Yes….?" A low growl rumbled throughout Maxwell body, making me flinch before clarifying my answer.

"I mean yes. Yes, I have plans."

"What was that?"

"What was what?"

"That sound? It sounded like a growl."

"Oh, that was just…." I looked up at him, only to look away immediately the second I saw how dark of a shade his eyes were now.

"That was my stomach. I haven't eaten anything." I was surprised to find how easy it was to lie to her, despite the guilt that was slowly eating me up inside.

"Oh, well go make something. But what plans do you have?"

"I'm actually meeting an old friend."

"Really? What's their name?"

"Their name?"

"Duh, everybody has a name silly," I could hear the slight humor in her voice.

"Their name. Hi"

"Their name?"

"Duh, everybody has a name silly," I could hear the slight humor in her voice.

"Their name. His name is….Crest."

"How do you know him?"

"He's an old family friend." With one look at Maxwell, I instantly knew he was growing irritated by this conversation and his eyes were now a pitch black color as he continued to stare me down. "Uh, Sara? He's actually on the other line so I would talk to you later, okay?"

"Okay. Oh, and Fiona?"

"Yeah?" I asked, pressing the phone back in my ear as I heard her voice while pulling away.

"Be careful."

My eyes widened in shock before I clicked the Off button and turned away from Maxwell whose eyes had never once left me.

"Well, now that that's out of the way…." His loud voice made me jump and I felt his arm tighten around my waist before pulling me against his chest.

"I think we should have that walk now. But first."

I turned to look at him and saw him reaching for his back pocket. My eyebrows pulled together in bewilderment as I noticed him pulling out a small napkin. It was simple looking, completely white like any standard one.

"What's that?" I asked, my voice suddenly shaky once again.

"I wouldn't want you running away from me or putting up a fight. So to make things a little bit easier on me…."

His voice trailed off as he slammed the napkin over my mouth and nose. I struggled against his hold but I was no match for his strength. I was trying my best to hold my breath but my lungs began to burn inside, begging to inhale and allow oxygen to fill them. Giving in to their request, I took in a long breath, only to find my body slumping against Maxwell's hold. My mind felt hazy and the room began to spin around me. I blinked a few times, trying to shake off the sleepiness that now seemed to consume me, but it was of no use. I could feel myself slipping deeper and deeper into this spell Maxwell seemed to have put me under. Giving him one last look, I closed my eyes and allowed my body to fully fall against his, feeling the napkin being removed from my face in the process.

"Sweet dreams, love," was the last thing I heard before slipping into unconsciousness.
