Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 92

Blake's POV

The wait was literally killing me on the inside and not knowing what lies before me today was making it ten times worse. Not to mention the agitated and impatient wolf snapping at me every five seconds. As if I wasn't in a bad enough mood as it was

Today was finally the day. The day we had all been waiting for (and the day I had been secretly wishing would come sooner). But knowing Fiona, I knew she would wait until the very last day to make her decision. I just had to get a stubborn and hard headed girl as a mate. My wolf growled at me for that, but I could sense him silently agreeing with me

I paced back and forth in the middle of the motel room, running a shaking hand through my hair while Anthonio watched me with apprehensive eyes. He followed my footing with a calm expression

At that moment, I was glad Marcus wasn't here with us. Instead, he was at Fiona's looking after her. Why may you ask? Well, apparently the big and oh so powerful Alpha Samson had secretly asked the former Alpha for me to stay away from Fiona on the night before the big day. It wasn't something I was happy about, but so long as he kept his distance from her as well, my wolf and I are content. And I trusted Marcus to look after Fiona when I wasn't able to, despite the fact of my wolf not liking a single wolf being within a small radius of our mate. Even if he is someone we have known our whole lives. But I had to admit, I liked how much she trusted him and felt completely at ease whenever he was around. Did I like it? No. But I would prefer my mate to be safe any day

Anthonio let out a soft sigh before standing up and stepping in front of my path, completely blocking me from continuing my subconscious pacing. He placed both hands on my shoulders, steadying me and completely ignoring the small growl that escaped my lips

Without a word, he spun me around and led me to the couch on the other side of the room. In one swift movement, I found myself sitting on the plump cushions, glaring up at him. He simply crossed his arms over his chest, unfazed

"You need to relax," he said simply, his voice barely above a whisper

My eyes narrowed in his direction.

"Easy for you to say."

"And hard to do, I know. You don't think I'm just as worried as you are?" He asked, his eyes softening.

"This is our future Luna we're talking about here. She may not be my mate, but I care about Fiona just as much as you do."

I growled in response and he unaffectedly rolled his eyes before sitting down on the coffee table in front of me. He rested his elbows on his knees and leaned forward

"You know what I mean, Blake. What I'm trying to say is that I care about Fiona like a little sister of mine and I am concerned with her safety as well as her well-being. I wouldn't want anything to happen to her and I knew as long as she's with you, she'll be fine. And besides, we have the future of the pack at stake."

I ran a hand through my hair, letting out a soft sigh.

"I know. It's just so many things running through my mind right now. And not knowing what her decision will be is killing me." He nodded in understanding. "I can only imagine. But you have to be patient."

"Again, easier said than done," I muttered, leaning back against the couch and covering my eyes with my arm.

Minutes passed before I lowered my arm onto my lap, staring up at the ceiling and concentrating on evening out my breathing. Anthonio sat wordlessly in front of me, staring down at the carpet beneath our feet with thoughtful eyes

"Why did she have to wait this long to make this decision?" I asked quietly, closing my eyes and rubbing my temples.

"I mean, it's not that hard. Especially when your fate has already been chosen"

Anthonio looked at me then, furrowing his eyebrows as he spoke.

"And did you ever think about how tough this decision is for her?"

I sat up straight and eyed him suspiciously.

"I'm her mate, Anthonio. That should make her decision a lot easier.

He shook his head, letting out a soft sigh.

"Blake, she's a human."

A low growl vibrated through my chest. "That doesn't matter."

"Yes it does!" He exclaimed, standing up and making his way around the coffee table.

"Have you ever once stopped to think as to why she even left in the first place?" He asked, turning around and facing me as I stood up.

"Have you ever once thought how overwhelming all of this would be to her? To someone who never even knew our world existed until merely two years ago?"

"But she knows I'll be there with her every step of the way. Human or not, she's my mate and I'm not leaving her.

"That's not the point Blake," he said, making his way towards me once more. "The point of the matter is that she's scared. She's scared that she's not good enough for our pack. She's scared that she'll let the pack down. And most importantly, scared she'll let you down. It doesn't matter who'll stand alongside her. What matters is the fact that she feels she's not fit to be Luna of the biggest pack in the country."

I took a step forward, glaring down at him.

"She is perfectly fit to be Luna of our pack, and you know it."

"Of course I do. I've known since the day she told my sister off in school. But she doesn't. Yes, you have shown her just how much you love her in the best way that you possibly could so you wouldn't scare her off, but even like that, you were bombarding her with the responsibilities she had to take once you become of age"

My eyebrows shot upward in bewilderment.

"What are you talking about?"

He shook his head, taking a step back. "You're seriously blind, man. I mean, did you seriously ever notice how anxious she would seem whenever you or your parents ever talked about her duties after she became Luna?"

I looked down at the floor, trying my best to remember all those conversations we had back home.

"But she always seemed fine with-"

"She was lying to you, Blake! She always acted like she was ready, like she was perfectly comfortable with what her future held, only because she didn't want to worry you. She didn't want to disappoint you after seeing that your mate, the one the Goddess had paired you up with, was terrified about your future together." He leaned against the wall beside him, shaking his head before saying quietly,

"I'll give you this, she knows how to hide her emotions like a Luna can." My wolf remained silent inside me, never once uttering a sound as Anthonio spoke. It was as if he wasn't even there, and yet I could still feel the sadness radiating off of him in waves. Had we really been blind this entire time?

As I thought back to all the times we were together, I always saw an emotion in her eyes that I could never decipher. Every single time I could practically taste it on the tip of my tongue, she would immediately shut it down, blocking out any hint of it for me to see. It always aggravated me, but I would set it aside, thinking nothing of it. But as the memories kept flooding in, I now recognized that hidden emotion she always tried to hide: fear

I subconsciously took a few steps back until the back of my knees collided with the edge of the couch. Feeling suddenly weak, my knees gave way and I crashed down onto it, the small piece of furniture groaning beneath my weight. I stared down at the floor with my mouth agape. All I could feel, then and there, was overwhelming guilt, regret, and disappointment.

Not in her, but in myself. Yes, I was angry with how little she thought of herself, but yet, how could I blame her? Had the roles been reversed, would I have not thought I wasn't fit for such a high position in the supernatural world we live in? Would I had not felt intimidated by higher beings that were more powerful than myself

As I sat there, all I could hear my wolf whisper was, yes

I covered my face with my hands, leaning my elbows on my knees as I took deep breaths, ignoring the small whimpers coming from my wolf

"So there really is a fifty percent chance she won't come with us." It wasn't a question

I had barely heard him make his way across the room towards where I now sat, but I instantly sensed his presence long before he settled down on the couch beside me. He leaned back against the cushions, letting out a soft breath of sadness

"Yes."

We walked side by side through the streets of this small city, capturing the eyes of the townsfolk as we made our way through the crowds of people. Some eyed us with fascination in their eyes while others were filled with envy. Those were primarily from the males who stood alongside their girlfriends who were gazing at us adoringly

I heard Anthonio snicker beside me when a skinny young man pulled a young blonde girl against him, immediately wrapping his arm around her waist protectively. I shook my head in amusement. Sometimes being a werewolf had its perks

As we made our way towards Fiona's building which was coming into view, I couldn't help the nervous knots forming in the pit of my stomach. My wolf paced back and forth anxiously, never once uttering a word. I would've appreciated a few words of encouragement from him right about now, but I sensed he was just as apprehensive as I was

'It's going to be alright,' Anthonio whispered to me, giving me a sideways glance before crossing the road towards her building

I stopped on the sidewalk, staring up at the brick building. I knew the windows from the side were from her room, and I found myself secretly wishing, begging, to the Goddess that she would somehow find the need to look out her window and find me standing there. But the Goddess didn't seem to be on my side today.

'You coming?'

I looked up to find Anthonio on the other side of the road, looking at me with worrisome eyes. I gave him a small smile before crossing the road, narrowly dodging a speeding car. It honked its horn at me, but I paid it no mind as we entered the building's parking lot

My body immediately tensed as we neared Fiona's small car that was parked on one side. I could feel my wolf fighting for control of my body as his continuous growls echoed across my mind. It took me a second to realize why he was acting this way until a familiar scent reached my nose

I gritted my teeth, my hands turning into fists at my sides as I turned the corner. As soon as I did, I was met by a pair of dark gray eyes that were leisurely turning a darker shade. Beside him stood the same two men as before. I had come to learn the name of his Beta, Hunter, who bowed effortlessly in my direction and did the same to Anthonio who stared at him in surprise. Shaking his head, Anthonio did the same to the men in front of us

Ben took a step forward and crossed him arms over his chest, and that's when I noticed that he was completely shirtless along with the other men. It was evident to see that they had gone out for a run this morning, by the looks of it

Ben eyed me slowly, analyzing my tall frame before a smirk formed on his lips. "Nice tosee you see here, pup," he said sarcastically, his voice huskier than usual

My eyes narrowed in his direction as I stopped a few feet in front of hi

"Wish I could say the same." m.
