Fiona's POV

I sat on the plump window seat and stared out at the night sky before me. It was completely clear, not a cloud in sight, and I couldn't help but think of him as I stared out at the darkness. I let out a soft sigh, looking down at the ground below to see if I could detect any movement within the trees with no such luck. The moon was high in the sky and cast a luminous glow throughout the backyard, but the trees still held their mysterious black hue.

I stood up, unlocking the window like he had told me earlier today. I still wondered what the heck he had meant by that, but I never bothered to further question it. But one thing was for sure, I couldn't ignore the butterflies that were happily flying about in my stomach when I thought of the possibilities that may occur tonight.

I shook my head, clearing any unnecessary thoughts from my mind before making my way to the bathroom. I turned on the light, shutting the door behind me and turning on the faucet. With a heavy sigh, I looked at myself in the mirror. I seemed to look paler than usual, as if the day's discoveries had completely drained me. I had to admit, although I had only found out that I was indeed surrounded by people that had the ability to turn into wolves, I couldn't help but feel all tired out about it. It was like my life was making a complete U-turn after I moved into town. Like I had hopped onto a roller-coaster ride and there was no end to it; and the ironic part was, I hated roller-coasters. They always made me sick and weak in the knees. Yeah, not so much fun on my part.

I began to brush my teeth until I heard a weird sound outside my door. My hand froze, my mouth hanging open as I listened closely. I was met by complete and utter silence. Without a second thought, I shrugged it off and proceeded to my brushing.

Once I was done, I switched off the lights and opened the door, being greeted by complete darkness. Allowing my eyes to adjust, I blinked a few times before making my way towards the bed. I stopped suddenly, seeing a dark figure from the corner of my eye. I turned my head to the right, gazing at my full length mirror before my eyes widened in shock.

I spun around quickly, a yelp escaping my throat as I tripped over my backpack that was lying happily on the floor. How the hell did it get there? I landed with a loud thump and a groan. Man that hurt. Hearing a faint chuckle, I couldn't help but glare at the dark figure in front of me. I was about to give him a piece of my mind until I heard my dad's faint voice outside my door.

"You okay there, kiddo?"

"Yeah, just….fine."

"What happened?"

"I uh…tripped over my backpack. Must've left it lying on the floor when I got home today."

"Oh….be more careful next time, Fiona. Night."

"Night."

I waited until I heard his bedroom door close before he erupted into silent fits of laughter. My head snapped in his direction, my eyes throwing daggers at him as he continued to laugh so carelessly. If I remember correctly, I had left my backpack lying neatly beside my desk. I was never one to leave things out of place, so how in the world did it….

My mouth dropped open in shock. Oh no he didn't.

"You traitor!"

"What? What did I do?" He asked innocently, but his eyes were a whole other matter.

I glared at him, pushing my backpack aside with my foot until it hit the wall. "You know what you did," I muttered, standing up awkwardly as I rubbed my butt. That was going to leave a mark in the morning.

He stood up, a smile still playing at his lips as he made his way towards me

. "I didn't think it would work that well."

"Haha, very funny. I hope you got a good laugh out of me hurting myself," I said, sticking out my tongue in a childish manner.

He gave me a mocked apologetic look before wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me against him. My body molded against his own and I felt my cheeks blush slightly. Thank god it was night time.

"I'm sorry," he murmured, leaning his forehead against mine as his grip tightened.

"Forgive me?"

I pursed my lips, looking up at the ceiling as if deep in thought.

"I'll think about it." I pushed my hands against his chest, trying hard to free myself from his hold with little success. Man this guy is strong. I struggled against his hold, only receiving a small chuckle from him.

"Let me go!"

"I'll let you go if you forgive me first." There was clear amusement in his voice.

I rolled my eyes.

"Fine….I forgive you." I muttered the last part.

He cocked his head to the side, a small smirk playing at his lips.

"What was that, sweet cheeks?"

Dammit. I took in a deep breath, gazing up at him as I said over dramatically,

"I forgive you."

take over and follow their scent, which is how I found you." He planted a kiss on my forehead, igniting another sensation through my body. "He was out finding her when he was overwhelmed by a sudden agonizing pain on his chest and that's when he knew. He followed her scent and found her shot dead on the ground. There was a human settlement nearby and they must have gone hunting earlier before they had spotted her. In his outrage of losing his mate before he even got the chance to meet her, he allowed his wolf to take over and he killed every man that was in the settlement that night."

My eyes widened in fear. I knew I had felt something strange emanate from him earlier today.

"Every single one of them?" My voice shook slightly in fear.

He nodded, another growl vibrating through his already tensed body.

"It is against the law for a werewolf to kill a human being carelessly, even if it's your mate that was killed by one of them. It's something that other wolves look down upon despite of the circumstance. My father renounced his title as Alpha and bestowed it upon me. I was only 14 at the time. Ever since that day, Maxwell has never been the same. He has this dark aura around him and he disappears most of the time. I was surprised he had come along with my father today; but I don't trust him."

"Why?"

He gritted his teeth, looking away from me.

"I heard his thoughts."

"What did he say?" I asked nervously, gripping his hand tighter absentmindedly.

He shook his head, his eyes now a complete black as he took heavy breaths.

"I'd rather not say. But just know that I will never let anyone or anything harm you." He pressed his forehead against my own, taking a deep breath, his body relaxing instantly. I guess my scent really did have a positive effect on him, even though I had no clue how I actually smelled like to him.

My body shook slightly, my mind coming up with many possibilities of what he might have heard in his brother's mind. Instantly sensing my now panicked state, he stood up and looked at the clock on the night table. I didn't bother glancing at it. I'm sure it was late enough because my eyes were fighting extremely hard to remain open despite of the rapid thoughts swirling about in my mind.

"It's best you go to sleep now. We do have class tomorrow."

I nodded, positioning my body upright against the bed and burying my body beneath the covers. I looked up at him, noticing his body turning to make his way out the window. I immediately felt a new swarm of panic rush through my body and I couldn't seem to fight the words that escaped my lips.

He turned back slowly, his eyes meeting mine. He stood there, idle, for a moment until he made his way around the bed to the other side. He lied down beside me, wrapping an arm securely around my waist. The second I felt his touch, my body relaxed completely and molded perfectly against his own. He pulled me tightly against him, my back crushing against his bare chest. The sparks ignited more forcefully than before and I couldn't help but tremble at the touch. I could feel sleep taking over me as I closed my eyes, letting out a soft sigh of contentment. As I drifted off into a dreamless sleep, his voice echoed in my mind.

"No matter what happens, I'll always protect you, Fiona. And you're mine."

so beautiful and he couldn't have asked for a better mate."

I looked away, feeling my cheeks flush brightly red. I seriously hated that he always made me do that so easily.

It was his turn to place a hand beneath my chin and lift up my head so I could look back into his eyes.

"And he loves when you blush that way," he whispered, leaning forward until our lips were only mere inches apart. He took in a deep breath, closing his eyes and allowing a small growl to escape his lips."

"And he hates how much you drive us insane with just your scent." When he opened his eyes, they were pitch black and I couldn't help but wonder why I had noticed them turn that way every so often whenever I was around him.

He seemed to know what I meant because he let out a low chuckle.

"It's because my wolf is trying to gain control and mark you as his."

"Why do your eyes do that?"

"Mark me?" I asked slowly, tilting my head in question.

I surprisingly felt no fear as I looked at him and instead reached out my other hand and pressed it against his cheek. His eyes slowly turned back to their original shade of brown and I couldn't help but smile at the sight. I loved the way I made him feel and I hoped he knew exactly how badly his mere presence made me feel. Suddenly, a thought occurred to me.

He pulled away reluctantly, placing my hand on his lap without letting it go. "That's something us werewolves do with our mates, we mark each other. It's a way to show other un-mated wolves that you're mine. And trust me, there are a lot of un-mated males that have their eye on you." A louder growl escaped his lips and his eyes were now a pitch black shade.

"Why didn't you tell me about your brother?"

A frustrated sigh escaped his lips before he pulled away from me, standing up from the bed in one swift movement. The second he stood up, the same cold sensation overwhelmed me and I couldn't help but whimper in protest. He turned around and his once hard eyes had now softened. He walked back towards me, kneeling down beside the bed and grabbing my hand.

"He's someone that isn't worth mentioning."

"Why?" I asked, lying down in front of him so I could hear him better. But I didn't calculate how close I was going to be to him until I was laying in front of him. A gasp escaped my lips and a low growl escaped his own. His body tensed in front of me, but he made no attempt to get closer and instead he went on with a strained voice.

"He's done things that my parents and I are not proud of."

I nodded in understanding, leaning my head against the hand that he was still holding.

"If he's older than you, shouldn't he be the one to be Alpha?" I peered up at him and noticed his jaw tighten.

"Yes," was his answer.

"Why isn't he?"

He let out a sigh and leaned his head against my own, breathing in deeply.

"He was rightfully next in line to become Alpha, but something happened that no werewolf on the planet wants to ever endure."

"And what was that?"

Silence erupted between us and I couldn't help but look up at him with questionable eyes.

"What happened Blake?" I pleaded with a soft voice.

"He lost his mate."

I looked down at the floor, feeling another painful sensation run through me. The mere thought of losing him made me feel empty inside. I may have just found out that I was destined to live the rest of my life with him, but picturing a life without him in it just didn't seem right and it was too painful to even think about.

"He should've been the Alpha by now. The next Alpha in line is supposed to take his rightful place once he turns 21. His training starts at the age of 14 until the moment comes." He paused, letting out a low growl before continuing.

"We, as Alphas, need to wait until our 18th birthday in order to find our mates. Our wolves.
