Blake's POV

Minutes passed until the night outside grew completely silent. Not even the sound of passing cars or murmurs from people nearby reached our ears. We were completely and utterly alone. There wasn't even the sound of movement beneath our feet, which I assumed held the home of a person of some sort. But I guess I was proven wrong.

"What do we do now?" He asked, looking over his shoulder and meeting my gaze. His eyes darted toward Fiona who was now staring angrily down at the floor. If looks could kill, there would be a gaping hole on the floor right about now

I let out a heavy sigh as I ran a frustrated hand through my already messed up hair.

"The best thing to do is to rest. We've all had a rough night and we need all the energy we can get for the morning. You guys can go back to the motel.

It was Marcus's turn to turn back and look up at me.

"But what if they give us trouble when we want to re-enter the border? The motel isn't in their territory, remember?"

"Trust me, they won't be giving us any trouble any time soon," I reassured them, but they didn't seem convinced

"And if they do?" Marcus questioned with a raised eyebrow

I simply shrugged.

"Don't hold back." That earned me a bright smile from him. He enjoyed fighting more than any of us. Well, behind Anthonio that is. But Anthonio hasn't been the same as he used to be in a while and for a very good reason

"What?" Fiona asked with a shocked expression on her features.

"You can't cause trouble!"

"Oh yes we can," Marcus said while standing up in the same process. "Especially if they attack first"

She rolled her eyes at him but I noticed a small smile threatening to form on her lips. If only she could right now. I would give anything to see her beautiful smile at this very moment

"Fine. But you guys should get going. It's already getting late," she said while checking the time on her wristwatch

I nodded in approval before facing them. "Alright. Have a nice rest and I'll see you boys in the morning.

Fiona was making her way into the kitchen until my words made her stop on her tracks.

"Wait, aren't you going with them?" She asked slowly

I shook my head.

"No. I'm not letting you out of my sight"

"But what if they come after you while you're here on your own?" Anthonio questioned, standing up as well

I simply smiled in his direction.

"Believe me, I can take care of myself. Now get going, you're wasting precious sleeping time"

Marcus let out a loud yawn that echoed across the room before nodding.

"That's for sure. I'm tired after all that running we did yesterday"

I noticed Fiona raise her eyebrow as she leaned against the wall beside the refrigerator with questionable eyes. "What do you mean? Did you guys actually run all the way over here?" She asked worriedly, her eyes darting to each of our own before settling on Marcus

He shrugged his shoulders.

"Well....sort of."

"Okay, enough chit chat. Let's get going," Anthonio said while pushing Marcus towards the now broken door. Well, it was still intact except for the doorknob that probably needed to be changed thanks to that jerk of an Alpha

"Night, Fiona! It was nice seeing you again!" Marcus called over his shoulder before he completely disappeared through the door. Anthonio turned around and simply waved at us before closing the door behind him. I listened in on their footsteps before the sound of their shift reached my ears and they dashed away towards the motel. Within minutes, their footfalls were completely inaudible to my own ears

Silence fell upon us once more, and I could feel her hazel eyes staring up at me from where she stood. I didn't bother looking at her as I made my way towards the couch and allowed my tall form to slump against the cushions. I had to admit, it was comfortable despite of its horrible appearance. I leaned my head back and let out a frustrated sigh, allowing my eyes to close shut as I took in steady breaths. I could feel my body relaxing, especially due to how her scent was practically everywhere around the small apartment, until the sound of her voice made me look up at her

"Umm," she paused, biting her lower lip as I stared at her.

"Do you want anything to eat?" She asked as she motioned to the kitchen behind her

I shook my head and leaned back against the couch.

"No thanks. I'm not that hungry"

"Oh, okay," she said in a rather disappointing tone that made me look back at her. I noticed what appeared to be sadness in her eyes as she made her way across the room and towards the bedroom door. Just before she could enter, she stopped on her tracks and turned around to face me.

"I would offer you to sleep on my bed, but it's rather small in size. If you want, I could sleep on the couch so you could be more comfortable"

I shook my head once more, raising my eyebrow in the process. Was she serious?

"No, I would rather sleep on the couch. It's not that bad," I said as I rubbed my hand against the soft fabric. I adjusted my seating towards the center of the couch before laying down completely. The couch wasn't that small in size, but it wasn't that large either. I found myself having to allow my legs to dangle off the side of the couch just to get into a comfortable position. I knew I would feel that in the morning, but I wasn't going to protest any time soon.

She raised an eyebrow at me as she looked at my now awkward form.

"You sure about that?"

I nodded my head as I twisted my body to lay down on my side.

"Yup, I'll get used to it"

She rolled her eyes before turning around to head back into the bedroom. "Whatever you say, Mr. Alpha"

I smiled at the usual nickname she used to give me before settling myself into the couch. It was then that I noticed she had forgotten to turn off the lights and I couldn't help but let out a groan of frustration. I seriously hated having to stand up after I had just found a comfortable position to sleep. Letting out another sigh of frustration, I stood up in an abrupt movement and sought out to find the switch that would allow me to fall into complete darkness to get a good night's rest. As I continued my search, a thought occurred to me and I found myself walking towards the now closed bedroom.Without hesitation, I opened the door, relieved to find it unlocked. As I peered through the open crack, I noticed her standing in front of a large dresser beside another door which I assumed was the bathroom. She was searching through the drawer before she pulled out some undergarments that seemed to match. I never knew why girls liked to do that. It's not like other people are going to see it anyway.

'And people will never see our mate's unless it's us,' my wolf said with a low growl

I rolled my eyes at his words. Only he would think about that at a time like this. I heard him chuckle in the back of my mind before I opened the door completely, allowing myself to enter into the small bedroom

She jumped at the sound of my footsteps as the floor creaked beneath my feet and she instantly spun around with a surprised expression on her face. I looked down at her hands which still held the few pieces of clothing. She followed my line of sight before letting out an embarrassed gasp and hiding it behind her small frame. Too late

"Blake!" She exclaimed with a now angry expression.

"You could've knocked!

I ignored her and simply got to the point I wanted to make.

"How did you not know you were residing amongst another pack?"

I knew my question had caught her off guard since her eyes widened at my words. She simply shrugged her shoulders as she turned around and began rummaging through the drawer once more. I let out an impatient sigh as I made my way across the bedroom and grabbed her shoulder. I spun her around until she was facing me and I had her full attention. My sudden movement caught her by surprise as she stared up at me with wide eyes

"How could you not notice you were living amongst werewolves?" I repeated, my tone sounding more angry than usual. I had never used this tone on her, but I couldn't help it. My wolf and I hated the idea of having another male wolf within a few feet from her

Her expression suddenly became furious as she pulled up her hands and pressed them against my chest. With the little strength that she had, she pushed me a few feet away from her as she stared at me with hard eyes

"How was I supposed to know? Unlike you werewolves, I don't have the ability to sense other ones around me. Nobody ever gave off a hint that they were and I didn't bother to find out if I really was surrounded by them. And besides, you once told me that packs tended to reside within rural areas. Look around here Blake," she said, motioning her hands around the room we were currently standing in.

"Does this place look rural to you?"

Her tone seemed to anger my wolf and I could easily feel him stepping forward. I noticed how her eyes widened some, probably seeing how my own were changing a shade darker, but she held her ground nonetheless.

"Of all places you had to go, you had to pick this place?"

"This is where my mom was raised, Blake. I've always wanted to do the same thing she did. That's the reason why I came here."

I turned around, letting out a low growl as I ran my hands through my hair for what seemed to be the hundredth time tonight.

"You just like attracting trouble, don't you?" I asked in a low tone.

"Excuse me?" She asked as she crossed her arms over her chest

"You heard me," I said, spinning around to face her.

"You've always attracted trouble. I always had to bust my ass to make sure nothing happened to you"

I noticed her expression display one of hurt, but she easily masked it, making it difficult to know if it had actually happened or not. Spinning around and slamming the drawer closed, she made her way towards the dark bathroom where she switched on the light before turning to face me

"Well, I'm sorry that me being your mate has caused you so much trouble. I'm sorry I'm just a pathetic little weakling that can't take care of herself"

I felt my wolf growl at me after what I said and I immediately felt like a jerk. "That's not what I meant, Fiona," I said, extending my hand towards her, but she immediately reacted by taking a long step away from me

"I know what you meant, Blake. Now if you'll excuse me, I would very much like to get ready for bed. Goodnight." Without uttering another word, she spun around and shut the door behind her harshly, leaving me in complete darkness

'That's what you wanted, wasn't it?' My wolf accused with a low growl

'I didn't mean to say those things to her. I just can't believe, of all places, she had to choose to live amongst other werewolves.

'I know, I hate that, too. But like she said, she can't sense other werewolves around her. She's just a human, Blake. She entered this territory completely blind and unaware of who lived here. She is not the one to blame'

I let out a soft sigh as I made my way out of the bedroom and closed the door quietly behind me.

'Then who is the one to blame?'

I could practically feel him shrug inside me as he settled himself for a long night's sleep.

'I don't know,' he said quietly before slipping off into a deep sleep. I guess I was on my own now

Looking up, I noticed a switch just beside the front door. How could I have missed that? Shaking my head, I switched it off quickly and allowed my eyes to adjust to the newfound darkness. After a few seconds of standing there, I walked over to the couch and adjusted my body to the same position as before. It wasn't as comfortable as the first time, but it had to do

I didn't fall asleep right away though. Staring up at the ceiling, I listened in on Fiona's movements as she exited out of the bathroom and made her way towards her bed. While I was in there, I had noticed that the bed was in fact rather small for the both of us to fit in. Well, side by side that is. But after what I had said to her, I highly doubted that she would be welcoming me to sleep with her any time soon.

When I finally noticed the bedroom light switch off, I allowed my mind to wander off into the past, remembering every single memory of us together. I tried to figure out where I had gone wrong. What did I do to make her leave me and the pack so suddenly without a single goodbye? I mean, I know I wouldn't have allowed her to go on her own, but why didn't she tell me about her acceptance to this college or of her deciding to leave? Did I do something to drive her away? To make her believe that my wolf and I didn't want her in our pack? As much as I tried to remember every single detail, a small headache began to form in the back of my mind as I came up with absolutely nothing.

This is going to be a long night.
