Fiona's POV

My leg jumped nervously beneath me as I continued to chew on my nails. It wasn't a habit of mine, but seeing that my flight was delayed caused these actions. I stared intently at the clock opposite of me, ignoring the strange looks I was receiving from the people around me. They probably thought I was insane. Well, I couldn't blame them. I probably did look like a wreck right now. After I had said goodbye to my dad, I quickly made my way towards where my flight was boarding, only to discover that it had been delayed. Of all things to happen on this very day, this was the last thing I wanted.

I couldn't help the gnawing feeling I felt inside the pit of my stomach. With every second that passed by, I couldn't help but question if this was indeed the right choice. Being this far away from

Blake was practically eating me alive right now. I had absolutely no idea exactly how I would react after I would cross the country and finally settle down in New Jersey. It wasn't something I tried to think about, but it was definitely something that would creep up on me and prevent me from sleeping peacefully the last few nights.

I must admit, not telling Blake about my plan nearly destroyed me. Every single time that I would look into his dark eyes, I would have to fight the urge to tell him about what I was doing. This had been something I was planning to do a month before graduation. I had applied to this school and was thrilled to find that I was able to get in, with a scholarship and everything. I know, it's not some high end school which is practically impossible to get into, but it was the school my mom had attended and it had always been my dream to go there and become a nurse just like her. So, you would understand the reason why I was so excited about going. The only thing that was preventing me from enjoying this experience was the mere thought of how Blake would take the news. I couldn't push away the feeling that he might just be on his way to stop me from doing this, which is why I am currently biting my nails and shaking my leg uncontrollably.

As if answering my prayers, a woman stepped out of the closed doors and announced that the airplane was ready to board and that the passengers were allowed inside.

Not allowing for more time to pass with me sitting here on this rather uncomfortable seat, I ran towards the entrance, pushing passengers aside and earning many glares from each one I harshly shoved away from my path. The second I approached the entrance, I gave the ticket to the woman and she simply smiled at me, only to have her smile disappear after she took in my frantic appearance. Not allowing her to question my attire, I dashed past her, pushing the other people who were making their way into the airplane. There were a few curse words here and there, but their voices were drowned out by my fast beating heart.

As my feet entered the large, yet slightly old, airplane, I immediately looked up towards the numbers above the seats to find my own. The second I saw mine, I pushed my backpack into the compartment space above my seat and plopped myself on the one right next to the window. Thankfully I was able to buy a ticket with a window seat, so I was able to admire my last view of the place I had called home in such a short amount of time.

Knowing that I was finally inside the airplane eased my nerves a bit, but I couldn't help but feel as if something was about to happen. My eyes darted across the trees that surrounded the runway where the airplane was currently parked. I knew exactly what I was searching for. More like who really. For some reason, my heart wanted to look into the forest and find the largest black wolf I had ever seen to emerge from it, only to shift into the man who I had fallen deeply in love with to come running into the airplane and demand I come out of it. I knew very well that this place was just outside of the pack territory and there were probably werewolves flying this airplane and attending the passengers inside.

My heart quickened its speed at the mere thought as I looked around at the flight attendants who were making sure that everyone were seated comfortably and had everything they needed for the flight. I focused my eyes on one in particular who had bright red hair and bright blue eyes that reminded me of Marcus's. Just the mere thought of him made me miss all of the friends I had made in my home. Her eyes immediately met mine the second she sensed someone staring at her. She held my gaze for a few seconds before I noticed her bow her head in my direction, making my nervousness increase tenfold.

I looked away as fast as I could and stared out the window, my eyes widening as I saw the one thing my heart craved to see but what my mind wished would not at this very moment.

A couple of meters away was a large black wolf sniffing the air around him before he looked up and his gaze met my own. I immediately looked away and sunk in deeper inside my seat, hoping to whatever God that was out there that he had not seen me. But a little voice inside my head was telling me that there was no way in hell he had missed me. A werewolf's eyesight was a lot more powerful than a human's, and by the mere sight of his eyes being a pitch black tone, I knew very well his wolf was in control and probably had no trouble seeing me from this distance.

"Is everything alright, ma'am?"

I jumped at the sound of a female's voice and looked up to see the same red headed woman from before. Her eyebrows pulled together as she studied my appearance before looking out the window. Her eyes widened as she turned back to me, her mouth hanging slightly open.

"Please," I begged, surprised to hear how weak my voice sounded.

Her eyes softened as she continued to stare down at me.

"It's not the right thing to do, Luna," she said quietly, fully aware that there were other humans sitting about in the airplane.

"You don't understand, I'm not meant to fit that role. He will be perfectly fine without me," I whispered back, allowing my body to sink deeper into the seat.

She shook her head, letting out a soft sigh as she leaned forward so I could hear her better.

"He will not be. Regardless of you being the first human to be a werewolf's mate, you were chosen to be his for a reason. You leaving him behind will simply destroy him."

My heart clenched at her words when sudden images of Blake turning out to be exactly like his brother flashed through my mind. It's not something I wanted for him to face, but I knew very well that he would be able to run the pack without me being there. Even if the thought of him finding someone else and marking her as his was practically a punch in the face for me, I knew that I was never fit to stand alongside him while we ruled one of the biggest packs in the world.

"He's strong enough. And he will find another," I whispered, hating the fact that my voice failed me by cracking as I said the word 'another'.

She smiled sympathetically while shaking her head once more.

"No, he will not. There is only one person who can ever be an Alpha's mate. And you are his."

I let out a heavy sigh as I peeked out the window to notice him still staring at me. It seemed to me that he was very aware of the conversation we were having and I had no doubt that he had probably informed her that I was indeed his mate. Curse this airplane and its delay.

"It's the right thing to do."

She let out another sigh, this one being of defeat as she straightened up her stance and her blue attire.

"In time you will know how wrong your decision will be."

I glared up at her. How dare she say that my decision is wrong? I mean, I know that this will probably backfire one day, but she had no right in saying that to me. "And in time you will know not to speak to me that way," I said. The second I said those words, my eyes widened in shock at how strong they sounded. Did I really just say that to this stranger who so happened to be another werewolf?

Her expression softened and she smiled. "You're more of a Luna than you believe."

She bowed her head before walking down the aisle to assist another passenger. I looked up just in time to notice other flight attendants looking at me with weird expressions. The second my eyes met theirs, they immediately looked away and went about their business. Great, now even they knew that I was a runaway Luna. Huh, not a bad title if you ask me.

I jumped at the sound of the captain's voice, indicating that we were about to take off. Slowly, yet cautiously, I straightened my stance on the seat, not daring to look out the window as I snapped on my seat belt. Taking in a deep breath, I looked outside and immediately locked eyes with my mate. It seemed as if the whole world stopped right then and there, and we were the only ones on the face of the Earth. It was a familiar feeling I always felt whenever I looked into his eyes, but this time it was different. Instead of feeling the usual butterflies that would always erupt in my stomach and the warmness that would overtake my cheeks, I felt my heart break into pieces as I took in his expression. It was one of pain and agony as his eyes shifted from their usual dark brown to black. It was as if I could literally hear him whimpering, begging for me to stay with him and get off that plane while I had the chance. But that chance was stripped away from me the second I felt the plane move onto the runway.

I continued to stare into his eyes, wishing I could communicate with him telepathically right now to tell him how much I loved him and how sorry I was for doing this. But then again, it would be best that I wasn't able to obtain such an ability. If I had that power, there was no chance I would be able to leave right now with his voice pleading for me to stay. I had to keep on reminding myself that this was the best thing to do. It was the right thing to do. I had kept repeating those words in my head every night, but they didn't seem to matter now that I looked into his eyes.

It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, and that was to look away and never look back. I fought the tears that threatened to escape as I bit down on my bottom lip. I took in a shaky breath, trying to calm down my fast beating heart. The next sound I heard was the one thing I knew would haunt me every night as I fell asleep with tears in my eyes....

The piercing howl of a now broken Alpha.
