Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 25
Blake's POV
To say that I was glad to see that Fiona knew of the whole werewolf thing would be a complete understatement. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders the second I saw how comfortable she had grown to the other pack members. I could still tell that she was a bit worried about how they would treat her, but she always seemed to manage herself nonetheless. That's my mate for you.
The only thing that continuously bothered me was the fact that many of my pack members had come up to me and talked about the whole issue of her being a human. Even though they tried their hardest to hide their true feelings about their Luna, I could always tell by their awkward expressions. They were worried that the pack might be attacked one day once the word goes out that the next Luna is indeed a human. My wolf and I had already anticipated this from our pack members, but it still angered us how they spoke about her; like if she was nothing in their eyes. But they were true in the fact that having her as a Luna will not only put my pack in danger, but her as well, which always worried me. That is why I had been visiting her nearly every single night after I revealed to her who I truly was. My father had been informing me that there had been more rogues surrounding our boarders, but none had attempted to cause any commotion. He still made sure the ones on patrol were keeping a close eye on them. One sign of weakness could cause an entire pack to crumble if rogues were to easily make their way through one's boarders. It was nothing my pack and I couldn't handle. We were not only the largest pack in the world, we were also one of the strongest.
A frown laced across my face as I parked in the driveway of her home. My thoughts were continuously going back to all the comments I had heard from my pack members through our mind link. Let's just say that some weren't at all that friendly, particularly Cicilia's.
I let out a heavy sigh as I picked up on the sound of her light footsteps heading towards the door. I looked up just in time to see the front door open wide and the most beautiful girl emerge through it. Today she was wearing a black tank-top underneath a plaid, purple, unbuttoned shirt with faded jeans and a pair of converse. Her hair hung loosely around her shoulders, bouncing slightly as she walked down the porch steps. A smile spread across my face the second our eyes connected. I had offered to drive her everyday to school from now on, and seeing her face early in the morning had to be one of the greatest things any guy could ever ask for.
She made her way around the car, opening the passenger door before she plopped herself onto the seat. She gave me a shy smile, one I had grown to love as well as the flush of red that would fill her cheeks every time she would see me, before buckling her seatbelt.
"Morning beautiful," I said, leaning forward and kissing her now flaring cheeks.
"I missed you."
She rolled her eyes, a small smile playing at her lips.
"We saw each other last night, smart one."
I shrugged, putting the car in reverse as I exited out of the driveway.
"Always miss you the second I have to leave."
From the corner of my eye, I could see her cheeks turn a bright scarlet and I couldn't help but smile broadly at the gesture. It was the truth. The second I would have to leave because it was already getting too late, my wolf and I would miss her immediately. Even by just not looking at her did we miss her beautiful face. One may think it's a bit too much, but I can honestly say that I never got tired of being around this girl. It was always something new and I always looked forward to each day I could spend time with her.
We sped off in the direction of the school, the car filling itself with the usual sparks that would ignite whenever we were near each other. Every so often, I would feel her gaze on me and I couldn't help but smile in return the second she noticed that I caught her in the act.
I turned left, entering the parking lot and parking in the usual spot. Ever since the pack had learned about Fiona being my mate, there would be less people surrounding the car whenever I entered the school. I had to admit, it was a huge relief on my part. I mean, I know I am going to be their future Alpha and I had to get used to greeting the pack everywhere I went, but it could sometimes get annoying. It was like I was being praised just for my lineage rather than my personality itself.
I switched off the car and opened my door, slamming it shut as I made my way towards the other side. I reached the passenger door, opening it in one swift movement and greeting my mate with a bright smile.
"My lady," I said, curtseying in a mocking manner.
I received a small giggle and the usual roll of her bright hazel green eyes. It was something she always did around me whenever I tried to be a gentleman. It was quite amusing, really.
"Weirdo," she muttered, grabbing my hand and lifting herself up from the car. She grabbed her backpack and shut the door behind her.
I turned around and smiled at my friends as they made their way towards us. Sara bowed in a respectful manner in our direction before rushing towards Fiona and giving her a big hug. They had actually become really good friends in such a short period of time. Literally, they personally met yesterday and now they acted like the best of friends. I don't get girls sometimes.
"What's up dude?" Anthonio said with a smile.
I nodded.
"Better than usual." I quickly shot a glance at Fiona who was deep in conversation with Sara.
"Aww, if it isn't Mr. Lover Boy!"
From behind, I felt two strong arms wrap themselves around me. I looked over my shoulder at Marcus who had a goofy grin on his face. This guy was just plain weird sometimes. And Fiona calls me the weirdo.
I shrugged him off before I pushed him to the side, trying hard to fight the smile that was itching its way onto my lips.
I rolled my eyes. Anthonio came to stand next to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
"It's ok, Marcus. You don't have to admit that you're jealous of us." He sent me a wink before his expression turned serious once more as he looked back at Marcus who was now looking at him with wide eyes.
"What? Just because you found your mate you don't want bro love? I'm hurt!" He grabbed his chest as he hunched over, pretending to choke for air.
"Me?" He scoffed, standing up straight and puffing out his chest. Wow, he looked like an idiot doing that.
"Who says I'm jealous?"
Right then, the girls stepped on either side of us with crossed arms. Sara slithered her arm around Anthonio's and pulled him against her, making his grip around my shoulders loosen.
"Aww, Mr. Loner won't admit that he's jealous. It's ok, Marcus. You don't need to hide anything from us. We're your friends, remember?"
He glared playfully in her direction before stomping off towards the school. He could be a drama queen sometimes, but it was always more entertaining than the last. We all erupted into fits of laughter as we stared at his figure disappear into the school. I wrapped my arm around Fiona, pulling her up against me and immediately noticing her cheeks flush at the contact. I would definitely not get tired of making her do that.
He glared playfully in her direction before stomping off towards the school.
"Is he always like that?" she asked quietly, eyeing me from the corner of her eye.
"Yup. And this is simply one of his good days," Anthonio replied with a shake of his head.
She giggled, instinctively placing her arms above mine around her waist.
"I don't want to see him on one of his bad days."
"You don't," we both chimed in.
That's when the bell rung, signaling that we still had five minutes to get to class. We all let out a loud groan in protest, but still managed to force our feet towards the school. With a hand wrapped securely around her own, we made our way to our homeroom.
I entered the library and made my way to the back aisle where I knew she would be waiting for me. She had informed me in homeroom that she just wanted to spend some time in the library. That automatically made my wolf a little bit too eager for lunch to come around. He clearly had something planned that I didn't know about. He never once answered me when I asked him about it. Even through his silence, I could still feel how excited he was about spending time with Fiona during lunch. I mean, we had been eating lunch in the library with her for the past week now. What made today so different?
I turned the corner and immediately met hazel eyes. I smiled down at her and made my way through the aisle. The second I stood in front of her, I wrapped my arm around her small waist and pulled her against my body. Without even knowing, I tilted my head and buried my face against her neck, relishing her sweet scent. A low growl escaped my lips, but they weren't my own.
"Uh, Blake? What are you doing?"
I pulled away instantly at the sound of her voice. What the hell was I doing? It wasn't until then that I realized what was even happening. That bastard of a dog. I hadn't even felt him take over and I had no doubt that she could notice the different shade my eyes obtained at this moment. They were probably back to their usual dark brown, but they were most likely pitch black when I pulled away.
"Sorry. My wolf took over without me knowing." I nervously ran a hand through my hair as I took a step away from her.
She giggled, the usual tint of red filling her pale cheeks as she looked up at me. "It's okay." She paused, her face becoming serious all of a sudden.
"Is it hard?"
I stared up at her then, confusion lurking through me at her words.
"What is?"
"Your wolf. I mean, controlling him when you're around me. You told me that their pull to their mate is a lot stronger than your own due to their animal instinct. I know he wants to claim me and you probably have been fighting him ever since you found me." She had no idea how difficult my wolf was. If she only knew. He chuckled in the back of my mind. Stupid dog.
"So is it hard for you now?" She asked, peering through her eyelashes as she looked at me.
I let out a heavy sigh, allowing my body to lean against the wall beside me as I ran another hand through my hair. It was probably messed up by now but I didn't care at the moment.
"You have no idea, Fiona." I could feel my wolf thrashing about inside of me, trying hard to take control of my body so he could finally claim her. It was very rare to find a werewolf that hadn't marked their mate the second they met. Almost as rare as finding out that your mate is indeed a human. Which meant, this never happened. Even Anthonio had marked Sara the second they met. I mean, it's not like you mate immediately after you meet, but the whole marking thing tends to happen that way. My wolf felt uncomfortable being around our mate and not seeing a mark on her soft skin between her neck and shoulder. He wanted to mark her so badly that everyday seemed to be a more difficult task to keep him in line. Especially when we were this close to her.
I closed my eyes shut, taking in a deep breath, only to regret it once her scent hit my nose. Her scent always used to calm me down, but it was becoming more difficult nos that we were alone. I turned away, flinching as my wolf continued to pace rapidly back and forth inside of me. Every now and then he would snap at me, trying hard to break down my self control so he could take over. I understood his reason for doing this, but he knew just as much as I did that it was best to take things slow with her. She wasn't raised in our customs. She was only learning about us as time went on.
I suddenly felt a gentle hand touch my face and my eyes flew open to meet her own. Worry were clearly evident in her eyes as she took a step towards me.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, allowing her hand to fall beside her fragile body as she looked down at the floor.
My heart clenched at her words and my wolf instantly stopped pacing at the sound of her voice. He pushed forward slightly, not to claim her, but to comfort our mate. She looked up and immediately noticed how my eyes were now a darker shade.
"I think it'd be best if I leave right now. I don't want to cause you any more pain." She turned around and grabbed her backpack before swinging it over her shoulder. She was about to make her way out of the aisle until I blocked her path. She looked up at me, her brows pulling together in bewilderment.
I shook my head.
"You're not causing me any pain, Fiona. We both want you badly but I am able to keep him in check, as well as me. You shouldn't be sorry about anything, sweetheart."
I reached out my hand and cupped her cheek. She leaned against the palm of my hand and let out a soft sigh. From the looks of it, she didn't even know that she was doing that until her eyes snapped open and she pulled away instantly. I couldn't help but crack a smile. That's what happened when you were around your mate.
