Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 47

Blake's POV

I slowly made my way to my mate's house in my wolf form, my body aching from today's training. I understood my father's intentions with this whole training stuff, but sometimes I believed it was getting out of hand. Since I was the soon to be Alpha in the next three years, my father was making sure that I would get all the training necessary for me to take on the position. The thing was, I was more than ready. But with that whole rogue incident, he wanted to be on the safe side

My body wanted to just lay down on the ground and take at least a five minute nap, but my wolf urged me forward. He wanted to see his mate before we both rested, but it was becoming impossible to keep my eyes wide open. Noticing my state, he pushed me back and immediately took over our body, quickening our pace as we neared Fiona's house. It wasn't until we exited the trees that my wolf came to a halt and sniffed the air, making me alert

A low growl rumbled through his chest as he stepped back and allowed me to take control once again. It was such a quick motion that I nearly stumbled backward, but that familiar scent pushed my tiredness aside. I sniffed the air, my body stiffening when I recognized it. He was here.

Without a moment's thought, I trotted along the side of the house, sniffing every corner with a low growl continuously escaping my gritted teeth. The scent was fresh and probably a few hours old, but who knows how far he could've gotten by now. The only thing that concerned me the most was if our mate was okay

We stopped in front of the house, perking our ears as we listened in on Mr. Christopher' movements as he made his way through the house. I could hear his footsteps heading towards the living room which was where we were both currently standing, so we immediately inched our way to the side of the house where we knew we could not be seen

Minutes passed before I made my way to the tree where I hid the shorts I would always wear every night when visiting Fiona. Shifting back into my human form and slipping them on with one swift movement, I jogged towards the porch before, rather forcefully, knocking on the door. I could hear her father's heartbeat quicken as he made his way to the door, probably surprised at the loud knocking. Unlocking the door, he opened it slowly before his eyebrows furrowed and he took in my appearance. I guess seeing the guy that your daughter is dating half naked with only a pair of shorts on wasn't something you would want to see standing on your front porch at this hour of the night. He was just lucky I wasn't naked after catching that horrible scent and practically going on a killing spree if my mate was hurt

"Blake? What are you doing here?" He gave me a once over before asking,

"Is everything alright? You look like something is troubling you."

Now I see where the whole observant nature comes from. I shook my head and gave him the best smile I could in the current state I was in.

"Just fine. I was just doing my evening jog in the woods," I lied easily, straightening my stance as I peered down at him.

He raised his eyebrow before opening the door completely and leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest.

"At this late hour? I don't think that's the best idea to do, son. Especially when you're barefoot."

His eyes flickered to my feet before his eyebrows pulled together once again in confusion. I couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. If only he knew.

"Helps me think better. But I was just wondering if Fiona was home?"It seemed like time stood still as I waited patiently for his response, unlike my wolf. He was pacing restlessly inside me, letting out a few snarls in the back of my mind. It was getting difficult to concentrate on the man standing in front of us, and I had no doubt that he could see the sudden change in my eyes. They were probably shifting from black to their original dark brown repeatedly. I had my wolf under control, but his agitation was surfacing and practically boosting up my own. But either way, I kept my composure as I stared down at the bewildered man

"She's not here. She's at a friend's house.

It was my turn to stare at him with confusion.

"What friend?"

"The name's…." he paused as he scratched the back of his neck before snapping his fingers in front of him. "Sara. The nice girl from the other day. She dropped her off and then picked her up a few hours later since the school let them out early for some reason.

His words rung with truth, well, some of it really. My father had sent out a message to the principal's secretary saying that all the students could go home since there was no need for them to be there if all of their teachers were with us. Even when my father had announced to the entire pack that starting Monday morning, every pack member who is willing to fight in case of an emergency must go to the pack house for a set of training, I had informed Sara to look out for Fiona. It was her responsibility to tell me everything that is going on with my mate. From the moment she is with her to the moment she drops her off at her house, she must let me know of my mate's condition. Earlier today when Anthonio, Marcus and I were training some freshmen to do combat, she had informed me of the school's early release and that she was dropping Fiona off at her home since my mate wanted to. It was quite strange seeing as Sara had always stayed with Fiona until the end of the training drills and I returned to remain with her in the comfort of her own room. Sara never once told me that she was taking my mate to her house afterwards, so the news shocked me to say the least

"How do you know of this?" I could hear it in my own tone that my wolf was slowly taking over and my voice was more huskier than usual

Her father seemed to take notice because he took a small step back before answering,

"She left a note. Would you like to see?"

With a simple nod, he stepped aside and allowed me to enter his home. It was there that it took me by surprise. His scent was all over the place, particularly behind the door where Mr. Christopher was currently taking me in. He opened it in one swift movement, leaving it wide open for me to enter. I had to restrain the growl that was threatening to escape when the scent was practically unbearable. His was the strongest, but my wolf and I immediately smelled our mate's as well. They were mingled with one another but hers was strongest by the door where I was currently standing. I watched his every move as her father made his way towards his desk and pulled out a sheet of paper and an envelope. He handed them both to me after he crossed the room and gestured with his head to open the note

"She left that note saying she was going off with Sara."

"And what's the envelope for?" I asked through gritted teeth, trying to calm down my wolf that was now thrashing about inside me

He shrugged his shoulders, obviously dismissing my behavior without question. Wise choice on his part.

"The note says that only you are supposed to open it. I don't know why, but I haven't opened it hoping you might come by." He paused for a second before leaning against the wall beside him.

"I can't figure it out, though."

"What?" I asked, meeting his eyes immediately and waiting for him to continue

"I know I haven't been around in Fiona's life after her mother's passing, but I know my daughter well enough to know that she would never take the time to type up a letter telling me where she'll be. She's not much of a fan of technology and likes to do old fashioned things like actually write a letter instead. So seeing that the letter is typed instead of handwritten makes it very strange. But I guess she was in a hurry to leave." He shrugged it off before staring down at the letter and envelope in my hands.

"A person who is in a hurry wouldn't take the time to type something up and print it. They would rather scribble it down before leaving," I said slowly, placing the envelope on the small table beside the door and opening the letter.
