Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 76
Blake's POV
'It would be best if you shift to allow me to locate our mate,' my wolf said quietly as he checked in on our surroundings
'I know. But I have a feeling that it's best if I stay like this.
'Why?' He asked curiously
I shrugged my shoulders as I stepped over a fallen log on the ground.
'Intuition, I guess'
He didn't bother responding, trusting that this "intuition" I had was correct. Taking a step back, I allowed him to scan the area as I tried to focus on her scent. I had been able to detect it before, but for some reason it had completely disappeared. There was not a single trace of it anywhere and that's what worried my wolf and I. Despite my worry for our mate, my wolf pushed on with the little hope that still resided deep within him. He whimpered quietly, calling out to our mate and secretly wishing she could be in our arms again. To feel the warmth of her body against our own, molded perfectly the way it should
Had I not been focusing on my thoughts, I would've easily caught her scent the instant it hit us. My wolf stopped on his tracks, lifting his head up in the air and taking a deep breath. It was her. I can feel it. My wolf jumped in glee inside of me before Marcus's voice echoed in my mind
'blake, I got her scent'
I nodded absentmindedly as my wolf lunged us forward, avoiding any tree that stood in our path with ease. We would've been a lot faster if I had been in my wolf form, but I didn't dare stop to change. I needed to get to my mate. Now
'I'm already on my way. Alert Anthonio".
'Already heading there,' Anthonio replied quickly
'What do I do?' Marcus asked patiently.
'Stay put until we get there. What do you see? Is she there?' I couldn't help the urgency that leaked into my tone as I spoke to him
'There's actually a building across the street from the park. Her scent is all over the second floor.
'Are there any vehicles parked around the area?'
'Negative. The area is vacant from what I can see. The entrance must be on the backside because I can't see a set of stairs or doors from here.
'How strong is her scent?'
'Pretty strong, but only because she seems to live here. She must have left a couple of hours ago.'
I let out a frustrated groan as I continued to run as fast as I could towards where he stood. His scent was becoming stronger as well as her own, so I knew I was heading in the right direction. But where in the world could my mate have gone for such a long period of time?
Not wanting to let that train of thought take its course, I focused on getting to where Marcus stood and deciding on our next move. Within a few minutes, I made it to a small clearing where Anthonio and Marcus were waiting patiently for me to arrive. I took in several breaths before making my way past them and towards the gate next to the street. I peered through the small set of bushes and stared at the old building in front of me. Taking in a deep breath, my wolf nearly took over as her scent enveloped us whole. This was definitely her place
"We have to get over there," I said out loud as both wolves stepped on either side of me
'But what about the humans? They'll see Marcus and I'
I shook my head.
"There's barely anyone here now. It's best we make our move as quickly as we can before we are spotted"
With one nod, we all made it over the fence and towards the building as quickly as we could, avoiding any lingering eyes. As we entered the parking lot, we immediately dashed behind a set of bushes that could easily conceal two large wolves and a very tall young man. We sat there, quietly, observing the cars as they zoomed by before I noticed Marcus twitch ever so slightly.
This was definitely her place.
'What's wrong?' I asked as I stared down at him
He shrugged his broad shoulders, letting out a puff of air as he shook his large head. He placed his clothes on the floor before laying down on the dirt ground.
'I don't know. My wolf is going crazy for some reason.'
I arched an eyebrow at him and was about to say something before Anthonio's voice silenced me
'They know we're here'
Marcus and I immediately perked up our heads and listened closely. Anthonio was right. The sound of hushed howls and pounding feet against the earth filled our ears as well as the scent of other werewolves nearby
Dammit
'Where is she? It's only a matter of time before-' Marcus asked impatiently before the sound of screeching tires averts our eyes towards the parking space in front of us
Before our very eyes emerged a small vehicle that maneuvered its way from the street and onto the parking lot. It parked perfectly in one of the two parking spaces before the engine was cut completely off. Within seconds, the driver's side door opened and a small young woman exited out of the car, and that's when I smelled it
My wolf began to pace restlessly inside of me, urging me forward, but I held him at bay. My eyes followed her every move as she neared the set of stairs. By the look on her face, she seemed frightened. That immediately quieted down my wolf as he pushed forward to see what was wrong with her
Without thinking, I made my way around Marcus who was to my right to get a closer look. Her stiff frame and fearful expression worried me, and I wanted nothing more than to go to her and hold her in my arms.
Despite the urge to run to our mate, I held my ground as I watched her make her way towards the stairs in a rushed manner. No, I couldn't let her leave just yet
'Stop her!' I yelled at Marcus and Anthonio who were still sitting silently in their previous spots
'Do you think it's the right thing?' Anthonio asked cautiously through the mind link
I simply growled at them in my mind as I watched them stand up to their full height. They looked at each other and seemed to hesitate before averting their gazes at Fiona who was now standing frozen with one step on the first stair. Her eyes gazed over the section where they were before her eyes widened as they slowly emerged from the bushes. Her body stiffened as recognition dawned in the depth of her eyes. She took a hesitant step back and I could practically feel the fast beating of her heart pounding heavily against her chest. She simply stood there, shaking her head as she stared at them both before I noticed her body shift slightly towards the staircase in an attempt to run. But I was too quick for her.
Before she could even take another step, I rushed out of the bushes and grabbed her waist, pulling her back until she was flushed against the wall. I pressed my body against her, pinning her from escaping and that's when I felt it. The usual sparks that would ignite every time we touched. Every time I was with her. My heartbeat quickened in pace, nearly matching her own. I could feel my wolf howling in joy as our hands wrapped around our mate's small waist. We relished the sensation of her body against our own, how it fit perfectly like if she was meant to be like this forever. And I wouldn't mind that either
I felt my wolf pushing forward, urging me to claim her right there and then, but I easily pushed him back as I leaned forward and pressed my lips against her jawline. The small touch made me feel alive again, like if the missing puzzle piece was finally in place and my world was complete in ever way possible. Tightening my grip to bring her closer, I trailed my lips along the length of her jaw before slowly making my way down her neck and down to the spot where my mark shall forever stay for the rest of her life. I felt her body tremble against me, causing a smile to spread across my lips as I opened my mouth and traced my tongue over her sensitive skin. Without her knowing, she pushed herself harder against me, diminishing any open space between us. It just felt so right, like we belonged this way
'That's why she is our mate. Our beautiful mate,' my wolf purred as he relished the sensation of her in our arms
Not wanting to break away from her, I found the strength to pull back, but not enough to let her go just yet. Leaning my forehead against her own, I stared down at her, memorizing every single curve of her features. She looked a bit different. A bit more washed out than usual which worried me. Looking down at her lips, I fought the urge to lean down and press them against my own. Had we been alone I would've easily done so, but I was still extremely aware of the two wolves standing a few feet away from us
My eyes averted to her closed ones, which made me frown. I wanted nothing more than to stare into those eyes that always captivated me every single time I would look into them. My wolf whimpered inside of me, urging her to open them, but we both waited patiently. It felt like an eternity had passed before I stared into the most beautiful eyes I have ever laid eyes on. As she stared up at me, I felt my wolf stepped forward, making his presence known as we both stared down at our mate. My eyes must have changed in color because I heard her gasp. I simply smiled at her reaction, allowing myself to get lost in her eyes like I have done so countless of times before.
"Hello, beautiful," I whispered into the air between us, hearing my usual tone change as both my wolf and I said those words
It had been so long since I had last seen her, but the wait was finally over. After all this time, I finally have my mate safely in my arms where she is meant to stay forever. But I knew this moment wouldn't last long, because, not so far off in the distance, were the sounds of heavy foot falls making their way towards us
