Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 57
Blake's POV
I rubbed a hand over my face as I tried my best to cover the small box on my chest with the other.
"It's complicated."
"Ooh, I love drama," he said in a rather feminine voice as he plopped himself on one of the chairs in front of the fireplace and turned it around so it was now facing me.
I rolled my eyes as I continued to stare up at the ceiling.
"That's what you get for dating all of the un-mated she-wolves in the pack."
He shrugged his shoulders.
"Not my fault she-wolves are so damn sexy in bed." He paused, his eyes softening as he took in my appearance. "Now, what's wrong? And don't tell me nothing's wrong because I could tell you're having an inner battle with your wolf. It's not normal for you to have your eyes change that fast."
Curse my eyes. I let out a heavy sigh as I placed myself in a sitting position on the bed.
"It's just hard, man. I mean, I knew it was going to be difficult, but not this damn difficult." He raised an eyebrow as he leaned forward and placed both elbows on his knees.
"What? Fiona?" I simply nodded.
"What's so difficult about her? Is she giving you trouble?"
"Sort of. I mean, I already knew things were going to be hard when I discovered she was merely a human," my wolf growled at the way I said it,
"but we never thought it was going to be like this. We show her everyday how much we care for her, but she never seems to accept it. She doesn't think she's good enough as a person….as the future Luna….as our mate."
He let out a loud whistle that echoed throughout the room. It pierced my ears but I simply ignored it as I focused on the tensed wolf inside me. This conversation was clearly not helping either of us.
"Well, you got to understand something, Blake, and I'm talking to your wolf as well. Fiona isn't like most she-wolves. And I'm not talking about the fact that she can't shift because she isn't like us. I mean that while most females in our pack are always out there and confident about themselves, Fiona is more of an introvert. She probably has had a bad past that makes her be this way. You can't really blame her. I mean, it's bad enough that she had to discover that werewolves exist by finding out that she was a mate of our own kind. But to find out that she's an Alpha's mate? Heck, I'd be sh*tting my pants if I were to find that out myself."
I couldn't help but smirk at his words.
"I never thought of you as the deep kind, Al. And introvert? I'm impressed at your advanced vocabulary."
He growled mockingly at me only to grin soon after.
"Hey, I did need to study in order to graduate out of that hell hole. I may be good looking and all the ladies want a piece of me, but those damn teachers wouldn't cut me some slack!"
I shook my head as I chuckled, once again playing with the small box in my hand. Despite it being a bit warm in the room, it felt slightly cold against my skin. I hadn't noticed that I was absentmindedly doing this until I heard Marcus clear his throat, making me stop immediately and meet his curious gaze
"What's that?" He asked as he motioned with his head to the box in my hands
"Oh, this? It's nothing," I muttered, trying my best to hide it with my large hands
He chuckled, standing up from his seat and making his way towards me. "Doesn't look like nothing. It actually looks like…." His voice trailed off as he used his werewolf speed to snatch the box off my hands. I had expected this to happen, but there was no point in fighting him so I allowed him to take it and believe that he was faster than I was. Like that was ever going to happen. I stared at his face as I waited for some sort of expression to fill his features. He twirled the box in his hands, his eyebrows pulled together as he inspected it. It took him about a minute to realize what he was holding before his eyebrows shot upward and his blue eyes widened in shock. I couldn't help but laugh as I reached out and grabbed the box from his hands. He stood there, awestruck, as he stared down at me with the same expression.
"Is that what I think it is?"
I shrugged my shoulders, stuffing the box in my right pocket as I stood up in front of him.
"Depends on what you think it is."
He opened his mouth to respond, but quickly closed it as a sly smile spread across his lips.
"Okay, now I can finally say that you are more whipped than Anthonio is!" His loud laughter filled the large room as he pointed a finger at me like the child that he is.
"Wait till I tell the guys," he said through the fits of laughter.
I punched him on the shoulder which instantly made him quiet down, but the same sly smile still remained plastered on his face.
"Don't tell anybody, okay? It was supposed to be a secret until after I ask her."
He pouted his lips then and let out a loud sigh.
"Seriously? You know I can't keep secrets for very long!"
"That's true, you do have a big mouth," I muttered, running a hand through my dark hair
He frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. "Thanks," he said sarcastically before his expression turned into a serious one.
"When are you going to ask her?"
I couldn't help but smile as I thought of my mate. "Today. I was going to leave now and take her to the lake not too far from here and ask her there.
"How romantic!" He shrieked while batting his eyes like an idiot. This guy could really be stupid sometimes.
"Well, get going lover boy. Wouldn't want to keep your lady waiting any longer, now do you?"
I pushed him playfully to the side before exiting out the door with him hot on my heels. We made our way down the large staircase and towards the living room, where I found Anthonio, Sara, and my parents smiling brightly at me. I stopped dead on my tracks with a questionable look until my eyes settled on the guilty looking Marcus standing beside me. My eyes shot him daggers as I clenched my fists at my sides and gritted my teeth
His eyes widened with fear, only to be masked by a sly grin.
"What? They forced me to go up there and find out what was wrong with you. Not my fault I left my mind link open so they could see and hear everything I was doing," he said with raised arms like if he was surrendering
I rolled my eyes and focused my attention back to the others. The second my eyes settled on my mother, I knew that there was no shutting her up. Despite that whole little misunderstanding that had happened months ago where Fiona had to meet the rest of the pack, they had both gotten along pretty well actually. My mother considered her like the daughter she never had and would spend most of her free days with her. I had to admit, I was a bit jealous that my own mother had been spending more time with my mate rather than myself.
"Why didn't you tell us that you were planning on doing this?!" My mother shrieked, making me wince at the loud sound
I shrugged my shoulders, averting my gaze to something else in the room.
"I was," I muttered, hoping that she wouldn't hear and simply drop the subject. Unfortunately for me, luck was most definitely not on my side today
"Oh really? And when was that going to happen?" she asked, placing both hands on her small waist as she continued to stare at me with those penetrating hazel orbs of hers.
"Relax, Lucy. You can't really blame the kid. This has never happened before so we have to give him some space." For like the hundredth time in my life, I was thankful to have my father step in whenever my mother was on her ranting moods. Good thing Fiona was more of the quiet type
"Ah! I can't believe I'll be attending a real wedding soon!" Sara exclaimed, clapping her hands together in excitement." And I get to be the best man," Anthonio said while smiling brightly at me
"Who said you're going to be the best man? I am his best friend too," Marcus said as he glared at Anthonio
"I am the future Beta of this pack. So that automatically makes me the best man of the wedding.
"And here we go with the whole Beta crap again. You know what? You can shove that Beta title right up your-"
"Okay! That's enough talk about this wedding stuff," I said, growing irritated of the conversation occurring before me
"But it is about your wedding, sweetheart. You should be excited about this," my mother said quietly, clear concern seen in her eyes
I let out a heavy sigh as I subconsciously rubbed a hand over the small box in my pocket.
"Yeah, I know. But she has to say yes first."
"What makes you think that she won't?" my mother asked, crossing her arms as she gave me a skeptic look
"Yeah! I mean, who would deny this sexy face?" Marcus said as he placed his thumb and fore finger on either side of my cheeks and forcefully shook my head from side to side while making baby sounds.
I slapped his hand away and glared playfully at him, rubbing my cheeks in the process. Man did the guy have a strong grip.
"Nice to know that you think I'm sexy," I muttered.
"Anyway, I'm going to go over there now and ask her father before taking her to the lake."
"Ooh! How lovely!" My mother said, mimicking Sara's earlier actions.
"I can't wait to start planning the wedding with my future daughter-in-law."
"Do you even know how to plan a wedding, Lucy?" my father asked, placing a comforting arm around her shoulders.
She quickly brushed him off with a glare as she made her way out of the room. "Of course I do! And if there's anything I don't know, there's always Google for that."
The room was filled with quiet chuckles as she made her way up the stairs and towards my parents' room. Unlike most parents who are a bit naive when it comes to the whole new technology thing, my parents, specifically my mother, was up to date with all of this. She even had a Facebook! And that's saying something since I myself don't even have one of those. I actually found the whole social media thing to be a little bit absurd. I mean, why not just talk face to face? You don't need to be texting all the time.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" my father asked with a bright smile.
I simply nodded before making my way out the door and towards the garage on the side of the house. It was actually the longest way to get there, but I needed time to think about how exactly I was going to ask her father. He may simply be a human, but despite me being a lot more powerful than him, just the mere thought of asking the man who helped give birth to my mate just scared the crap out of me.
