Werewolf
Lycan's Mate (His Claim) Chapter 65
Unknown POV Continues
"I have found your new Luna."
My eyes widened in shock as my calm stature immediately dissipated at his words. I looked over at my mate whose expression seemed to mirror my own. She stared at me with questionable eyes but I merely looked back at our Alpha, finding no words to explain his own.
Seconds passed before the room was filled with a low murmur of chatter. Many sounded excited to have finally found someone who could carry the next heir of the pack while others sounded worried at the news. I could personally say that my emotions matched those of the anxious ones.
Looking back at the Alpha, my voice immediately spoke the question that most were probably dying to ask.
"Who is she?"
His eyes met mine but I held them easily. His intimidating nature didn't faze me anymore and I believe I was the only one in the pack who didn't feel at all frightened around our Alpha. Except for one other than myself. It didn't used to be this way though. The man standing before me wasn't always this cold-hearted. He used to be loving, just like any other Alpha would be to his pack, but past experiences led him to be merely a hollow shell of his old self.
Straightening his stance, he looked back at the crowd before his deep voice echoed across the room.
"Her name is Fiona Christopher."
Another wave of silence filled the air as we all recognized the sound of her name. She had come here two years ago to attend a college nearby before working at the Senior home. We were all aware that she was human and posed no threat to our kind, so why her, of all people, to be our Luna? She was human for crying out loud! Has the Alpha truly gone mad?
As if reading my thoughts, one of the elders stood up and made his way towards the Alpha before laying a comforting hand on his shoulder. He stared down at the old man before taking a step back, which is rare for an Alpha to do.
The old man stood straight in front of the crowd, despite of his age, immediately gaining everyone's attention.
"Brothers and sisters, I know you are all aware that the young woman the Alpha has chosen to be Luna of this pack is indeed a human. And in my opinion, I think she is an excellent choice."
Suddenly, a pack member stood up from his seat with an angered expression on his face.
"But she is simply a human! Her kind is not fit to lead a pack of our own. Her leadership will cause us to fall even lower than we already are!"
A loud growl emanated from deep within the Alpha's chest, silencing the pack member immediately and causing him to sit back down in his seat. I knew the Alpha will not put him in his place now in front of the others, but his words will not go unpunished.
"Yes, this is true. One would think that a human would not be fit to run a pack." With the old man's words, another growl thundered through the crowd, but he paid it no mind and rather continued.
"But there is something about Fiona Christopher that makes her perfect to be Luna."
"And why is that?" I questioned curiously, earning a glare from the Alpha but I continued to stare at the old man instead.
He smiled kindly in my direction before replying,
"Because she was supposed to be a Luna, but for another pack."
For the second time tonight, my eyes widened in surprise as I stared at the old man. What did he mean by that? As I looked at the Alpha, his expression nearly matched my own. It was the little amount of emotion that I had seen him show these days.
"What do you mean?" The Alpha demanded, clutching his fists at his sides once more.
"What I mean is, Fiona Christopher is the first ever human to be mated to a werewolf. And not just any werewolf, but an Alpha."
"And how do you know this?" He asked once more, his voice even more angered than before.
The old man straightened his stance and directed his words specifically towards the Alpha.
"Because she shows true power that only a rightful Luna can portray to others. I've sensed it many times and her scent is different than the other humans. It is evident that she has already encountered her mate but left him for unknown reasons. So this is why I believe for her to be an excellent candidate to be our Luna, but there is some factors you need to consider." The Alpha remained quiet as he allowed the elder to continue, but by the way his body tensed showed he already knew what the old man's next words would be.
"She is an Alpha's mate and is destined to lead a pack. Even if she left her mate behind, there is still a chance he would come looking for her to bring her back to where she belongs. No Alpha would ever allow his mate to fall into the hands of another."
A loud growl shook the building's walls as the Alpha stepped in front of the old man with ferocious eyes that seemed to glow under the luminescent lights despite of their dark shade.
"She is mine. It is his fault for letting her go that easily. If he wants her, he'll have to go through me."
The old man seemed unfazed at the Alpha's reaction and merely sighed, his eyes filled with sorrow as he stared up at him.
"If you make her your Luna, only bad things would come for you."
"Not if she chooses me over him," he challenged before facing the pack once more.
"You will have your Luna," he said audibly, his voice strong and determined as he looked down at each member.
"Even if it kills me."
With that, he exited the room without uttering another word and slammed the back door behind him with full force. The only sound that was heard was that of the door creaking under the sudden impact that was bestowed upon it only moments ago. I looked down at my family before meeting dark brown eyes. They were filled with worry as she continued to look up at me. Seeing her now, I couldn't ignore the odd feeling that overwhelmed the pit of my stomach as I stared at her. Something didn't seem right, but I quickly ignored it in order to address the pack members who were waiting patiently for a command. Seeing as the Alpha had already left, I guess it was my duty to dismiss them tonight.
"You may all go. I wish you all a good night." With my words, they all began to scurry out of the building, looking back with questionable eyes before disappearing through the doubled doors.
I let out a heavy sigh, running my hand through my thick hair before I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. My eyes met familiar ones as I stared down at the old man. His eyes were unreadable as he spoke.
"Go after him. If he does what he wishes to do, there is no telling what his future will hold. You must protect him."
My eyebrows pulled together in confusion as I stared down at his fragile, yet strong, figure before me.
"What do you mean? What will happen to him?"
He shrugged his shoulders, his eyes sad as he said,
"I do not know. But with everything he has gone through, we must hope nothing happens to him that could severely affect the pack."
With that, the old man began to make his way towards the doubled doors before he completely disappeared out of sight. I was left dumbfounded, my mind completely disoriented as I stared down at the worn out wood beneath my bare feet. I felt movement come from beside me and a calming feeling spread throughout my body as my mate pressed her soft hand against my arm. My eyes immediately met hers and I felt my wolf calm down instantly. Even he was a bit anxious about what had happened, and the old man's words didn't help settle this uneasy feeling that was creeping up inside us.
"Is everything alright?" The brunette asked as she continued to hold onto Oprah tightly in her small arms.
I let out a heavy sigh before looking at the back door where the Alpha had disappeared through only a few minutes ago.
"I have to take care of something. You girls go on and head home. I'll be there in thirty minutes."
Giving them all a kiss on the forehead, I made my way through the back door and into the night. Allowing my wolf to step forward, my heightened senses caught the sound of the wind rushing through the trees and the sound of water splashing against the shore from the lake nearby. I walked slowly through the thick undergrowth, listening to any sort of noise that would alert me of the Alpha's presence before a strong hand grab a hold of my arm and pressed my back harshly against the trunk of a tree. My wolf stirred about inside of me, begging for control in case it was a rogue attack before his familiar scent reached my nose. I immediately froze and looked up in confusion.
"Alpha?" I asked, my voice guarded after seeing the wild expression on his face.
He simply stared, his eyes unreadable. The way he looked down at me made my wolf pace back and forth restlessly. We had tolerated the Alpha's actions for a long time now, but somehow tonight seemed to be the beginning of something far worse than before.
"I don't care what that old man says, Fiona Christopher is mine. She will be Luna of this pack and if that pathetic Alpha wants her back, there is no chance of him ever living to see the day where he would have her. She will be mine. Even if it's the last thing I do."
I simply nodded, afraid I might say something to anger him even more than he already was. His dark eyes verified that.
"So what should we do?" I asked cautiously, relieved to find his hold on me easing.
A sly smile spread across his lips as he stared down at me, the odd feeling filling my insides once more. I am not liking where this is going.
