The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 14: Understanding

Night’s P.O.V

I paced around the floor with my hands in my pocket, anxiety making me sweat even though the weather today was nice enough.

Why was I being anxious? Why was I waiting around for Kai to show up like a lost dog waiting for its owner? I didn’t understand any of this myself either.

However, when I saw Cole, the blonde haired man who was one of Kai’s best friends, come in through the front doors of the dorm, I was immediately up from the waiting area and rushing to stop him before he headed to the elevators.

“Hold that!” I called out just as Cole entered the elevator and he pressed the button to hold it until I was inside the doors. “Thanks!”

Cole gave me a once-over, his eyes narrowing in on my face as I swallowed nervously. “Waiting for Kai?”

“How did you know?” Shit! I wasn’t supposed to give myself away like this!

“Kai has been bugging me since this morning.” Cole shrugged. “He went home for the weekend all of a sudden and then he showed up at my door at six or something in the morning and he’s been with me since. I might be throwing stones in the dark here, but it kinda seemed like he’s been avoiding you.”

“He went home for the weekend?” Dear god! Why did that feel like such a huge relief to know? I had been worrying all weekend as to where he disappeared to since all his belongings were still here…I just hope he doesn’t want to change dorms now or anything…

Just then, the elevator doors opened on our floor and Cole sighed as we hurriedly got out.

“Wanna go talk somewhere private?” He asked, looking around the hallway as one guy came out of the dorm from the furthest rooms and began making his way towards the elevator.

“Yes. That’ll be better.” I nodded, pointing him towards the dorm I shared with Kai.

Once we were finally inside and I’d closed the door, I finally started to feel nervous once again.

“What did you wanna talk about?” I asked. “Is Kai not coming back tonight either?”

“Kai told me about the kiss.” Cole went straight to the point, without wasting any time and throwing me completely off-guard.

“P-pardon?” I swallowed nervously. I hadn't expected him to be so direct.

“Look…I don’t know what happened between the two of you…and I don’t think it’s any of my business either.” Cole sighed as he threw his bag on my bed and took a seat before patting the space beside him. “He just told me what happened but we didn’t get to talk much since he got dragged off to the Student council room for pictures for the contest or some shit. But honestly, I think Kai’s a bit shaken himself. You know he’s straight, right?”

“I do! I do!” I nodded, taking a seat next to him. “That’s why I was just as surprised when he kissed me!”

“Wait…he kissed you first?” Cole’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Yeah…” I frowned at him. “Why? Did he tell you I came onto him?”

Was this some kind of joke or the past repeating itself? Did Kai and I talk about how shitting my ex was before he kissed me? Why was he out there spreading false news about me then?

“No, no!” Cole shook his head immediately. “He didn’t tell me who kissed who first. It was just ‘we kissed’, nothing more…so I kinda assumed that it might have been you since you both got a good few drinks that night and that fight with that guy at the bar might have been awful…”

“It was.” I told him truthfully. “And I hadn't expected Kai to understand the situation or understand how I felt…because no one usually did.”

Cole stayed quiet for some time before he placed a hand on my shoulders. “Look, Kai is usually the first person to throw fists in the group. At first, you’d think its Devon because of how he looks and how he’s in the boxing club, but that’s not the case. Kai had always been the act-first-think-later kinda guy. So don’t think too much about the kiss, okay? It’s better to just forget it and avoid ever bringing it up so the two of you can avoid any awkwardness in the future.”

“Just come to an understanding between the two of you. Trust me, once you’re able to do that, no matter how awkward it is now, one day in the future, the two of you might even end up joking about the situation like the best of friends. Am I right, or am I right?”

Cole’s sense of humor made me crack a smile as I nodded my head.

“I don’t usually get hung up on a kiss, Cole.” I told him truthfully. “I’ve kissed plenty of guys before and I hardly remember their names or faces. I’ve had just as many one-night stands as well, without knowing who they were or if I’d ever see them again. If he goes to your room tonight…can you please tell him that I’m sorry? And if he wants me to…I can move out.”

“Oh, that’s nonsense!” Cole slapped me on the back while shaking his head. “There’s no need for you to go to such extremes! And why would you do that? Because of one kiss? That’s overreacting and I know Kai is overreacting as well. If he comes to my room tonight, And if my roommate even bothers to open the door again, I’ll let him know that you’re okay with whatever happened and that he can stop hiding like an idiot.”

“Thanks.” I gave him a smile as Cole got up with a light pat on my back and picked up his bag.

“Well then, I gotta get going.” Cole gave me a wink as he headed to the door. “You’re too pretty for your own good. I stay here any longer and you might accuse me of kissing you next.”

With that, he was out the door and closing it shut before I could react to that comment.

Laughing, I shook my head at Cole’s words. However, when I looked back towards the empty bed by the window…I couldn’t help but have this sinking feeling inside my heart at the sight of that emptiness.

Cole was right. Kai and I needed to come to an understanding. What he was doing now was running away from the situation and I didn’t like that one bit. It was better to have some form of clarity rather than wait around till all the bridges have burned.

I had never really been a dramatic person…but at that moment, I don’t know why the tiny room of this dorm was suddenly starting to feel too big without Kai here.
