Kai’s P.O.V

“Night’s dad said what now?” Devon was the first person to react to the story and he looked pissed. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“I wish I was.” I sighed, rubbing at my eyes.

I had barely gotten any sleep last night, the room feeling suffocatingly large all of a sudden. “To think that he’s been openly dating men for ages now and he still goes and calls me a fag? I don’t think there’s anything good going on in that household.”

“Damnit!” Devon looked pissed, and rightfully so. I shared his sentiments and I was just as pissed, if not more.

The only reason I wasn’t showing how frustrated I was, was because I was exhausted to death. I needed sleep to function properly and I don’t think I’ll be able to do that until I heard news that Night was doing ok.

“So they took him out of the hospital against doc’s recommendation? But that still means they could admit him elsewhere, right?” Cole suggested, after staying silent for some time. “Maybe we could check the hospitals near his house to see if he got admitted there? Expensive private hospitals, of course. Because if a guy was bragging about how many millions he lost just because he had to come visit his sick son…dick must be loaded.”

“I heard he was a famous businessman.” I told him. “But I don’t know who he is or what he does.”

“Nathaniel Winters.” Joshua, the guy in our group who rarely showed up at our table during lunch time ever since he started dating, now looked up from his phone to enlighten us with his wisdom. “The CEO of Winters chain of Hotels. He’s a big deal actually. And if I were him, I’d just treat Night at home, since he probably has several docs on standby already.”

As much as I was annoyed by Josh’s habit of coming and going as he wished…he did have a point. If Night’s dad did own a chain of Hotels, he was rich enough to treat him at home.

“Then we have no other option left but to wait for him to get better.” Cole sighed. “Did you call him today?”

“I want to, but I’m afraid I’d end up disturbing him.” I shrugged helplessly. “Night needs to rest to recover and its barely been a day since he was in the hospital. I’ll try to call him tomorrow.”

“That’s probably a good idea.” Josh said as he got up from the cafeteria table. “I gotta go guys, see you later!”

We waved him off, not even bothering to ask where he was going even though there were ten minutes left for the lunch bell to ring.

“I didn’t think we’d see the day when Josh would be so whipped he’d literally flock his girl twenty-four-seven.” Devon told us.

“Who’s he dating anyway?” I asked curiously. “That cop’s daughter? The one who nearly threw him in jail for pursuing his seventeen year old.”

“Yupp.” Cole grinned. “And she turns eighteen next month, so he can be open about it very soon. But for the time being, he says that they are just being ‘friends’.”

“That just doesn’t sound right.” I winced. “She’s still underaged.”

“But over fifteen, so she can still sleep with him and it won’t be considered being forced.” Devon shook his head. “Fucked up laws. Don’t even ask how I know that.”

“Alright.” I stood up from the table as well, handing over the other half of my sandwich to Cole to finish up for me. “You can have that. But don’t throw it away, I hate wasting food.”

“Where are you going?” Devon asked curiously, leaning his elbows on the table. “You didn’t even have lunch properly.”

“Need to get to the Council room for the magazine prep.” I shrugged. “Zach was asking if you’re up for a special spot on the magazine. One page only. You’re a boxing champion, so they wanted to discuss your achievements last year.”

“And by that you mean they want to oil me up and take some photos of me in my boxers.” Devon grinned. “Count me in.”

I frowned. “You don’t usually give in this easily…what happened this time?”

“Let’s just say…I have someone I want to see a little jealous.”

Cole and I exchanged looks at Devon’s stupidly grinning face, but didn’t push the matter. He’d tell us when he wanted to. And with how lowkey he kept his relationships, it was nearly impossible to predict who he was dating, let alone which gender. No wonder I didn’t even find out he was Bi until last month!

So I said my goodbye’s to my friends and headed to the Student Council room, which was a bit far from the cafeteria. But the walk helped me clear my mind and get rid of some of the tiredness I had been feeling all day.

“Woah!” Zach’s eyebrows shot up as soon as he saw me enter the student council room. “What happened to you? You look like you got run over by a moose!”

“Thanks, Pres.” I gave him a sour look. “Absolutely loved the compliment.”

“Enough chatting you two!” Tina complained from in front of the monitor. “We need help selecting the pictures here! Come help us out! Otherwise Yin and I will choose whatever we want and then you’ll complain about it not being good enough!”

“Why don’t you two just choose whatever you think is the most attractive?” Zach sighed in exasperation, turning towards the two women. “The magazines are supposed to attract female customers more! So whichever you find sexy, just add that to the final selection list and Kai and I will choose the last pics.”

Tina and Yin gave us narrow eyed glances before looking back at the screen, which was displaying someone’s abs instead of their face. “Okay!” The agreed instantly and went back to work…lowering the screen on the image below their pecs.

I turned back to Zach with eyes as wide as saucers. “Why do I suddenly feel violated?”

“They see us every day,” he scoffed. “We’re hardly on the radar.”

Zach called me over to his desk then, letting the girls do their work. “How’s Night, by the way?” He asked. “I heard from one of his classmates that he’s not at the hospital anymore? I was planning to visit him.”

“I don’t think that’s possible at the moment.” I shrugged. “His parents came to take him home last night and we haven’t heard from him since.”

“That’s bad…but at least his parents are rich, so they can set up a hospital at home or something…” he shrugged, but I could see the worry in his eyes. “I’m sorry.” He said at last.

“For what?” I frowned.

“For not listening to you when you said he was sick.” Zach looked up at me apologetically, adjusting his glasses. “I should’ve paid more attention…then this wouldn’t have happened.”

But I shook my head, placing a hand on his shoulders reassuringly. “It’s not just us, but that brat won’t listen to reason either. He should’ve told us when he started to feel si-”

Before I could finish that sentence, excited screams filled the council room, making us look back at Tina and Yin in shocked silence.

“What the hell!” Zach snapped at them once they had stopped squealing. “Will you two act more professional in the Council? You’ve been doing this for three years already!”

“Oh! Zach, you don’t even know what we’re screaming at!” Yin blinked her eyes, calling us over with a huge grin on her face. “Come check this out! This is gold!”

Curiously, Zach and I exchanged looks before walking over to the computer and standing behind the two of them.

After all what could be so surprising about a few pictures…of nearly naked men in a pool…yeah…I think I got it a little later.

But when I peered into the screen, however, I felt my heart thrash against my ribcage as I finally realized what had gotten the two of them so excited.

“Oh…my BL heart is about to burst!” Tina looked up at Zach almost like she was about to cry. “Are you seeing this, Zach? Are you?”

“What the hell is BL?” Zach frowned at the screen. “I don’t get it.”

“Boys Love, you idiot!” Yin rolled her eyes at him. “Get some perspective, broaden your horizon!”

“Geez, you two!”

But all the commotion happening in front of me almost felt like background noise as I stared at the screen, unable to take my eyes off of it.

Because it was a picture of me and Night…in the pool.

We were with our respective partners, because I could see Saya and Ruby’s shoulders on the side, but Tina had zoomed in on the image so that it was only the two of us.

The picture had been taken at the moment Night and I had locked eyes with each other. And it that moment…it had felt like everything else around us had ceased to exist…

All that mattered to us was each other, as we gazed into each other’s eyes.

If pictures could talk, this one clearly told me one word, loud and clear.

Love.
