The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 70: Putting An End
Kai’s P.O.V
I felt my heart thunder in my chest as I looked at Kia, waiting for her reaction. After all this time hesitating and fearing what might happen when I finally came out to my family…I had finally told my sister the truth…
And it felt so fucking liberating…
Night’s fingers tightened around mine, and I could tell that he was scared…scared about the consequences, the repercussions, just like he had to face from his own parents. But for now, I knew that even if my sister wasn’t very open to the idea of me being in a relationship with a man…she would still understand.
However, when Kia’s lips stretched in a smile, I couldn’t help but feel a bit flabbergasted at her expression. “It’s alright, Kai. I knew.”
“You knew?” My jaw all but dropped to the floor. “But how?”
Kia shrugged again, pursing her lips. “I mean, I wasn’t sure if you two were actually dating or just fooling around,” she clarified. “I just knew something was going on between you two, and that it was something serious.”
I exchanged a look with Night, wondering how obvious we had been and for how long.
“As for how I knew…” my sister continued, “I know my brother well, Kai, so it was pretty obvious to me that night at the hospital. I had never seen you so nervous and worried about someone like you had been when he—” she pointed at Night, “was taken away from the hospital by his parents, against our advise.”
“No wonder you asked me about it that night,” I sighed, rubbing at my temple as we all took a seat. “I thought I managed to dodge that bullet.”
“No a chance! I mean, it was kinda cute. It was my first time seeing you that nervous.” She laughed at me fondly, her eyes looking happy for the first time since she stepped into my apartment. Then her eyes took on a more serious gaze. “But I also noticed that you may not be yet ready to open up to me, so I decided to give you some space. After all, this was a big change in your life, for someone who had never even thought about looking at men before.”
I nodded, looking down at my hand that was still intertwined with Night’s. “If it wasn’t for him…I may have never looked at men they way I look at him. But I guess…the reason why I never managed to go stable in a relationship before was because I never found the right person.”
Kia pointed her finger at me, gaping. “Christ, I can’t believe you managed to get here before I did. Now, that’s just unfair. If I told my past self that my whore of a brother would settle down before me, I would’ve laughed my ass off then and there!”
But instead of laughing at her little jest to lighten up the atmosphere, I could only frown. Leaning forward, I took a bottle of chilled beer that was still on the floor and handed it to Kia. “So what happened there?” I asked, telling her to use the bottle on her cheek. “Why and how do you have so many injuries?”
Suddenly, the silence in the room sounded almost deafening as Kia lowered her head, pressing the bottle to her cheek.
She swallowed, hesitating as she tried to find the right words to say. Then, finally, she admitted, “My… fiancé… has been abusing me.”
“The fuck!” I let go of Night’s hand as I went to get up from my seat, but Night held onto me. “Why did you never tell me about this?”
I tried to think back to my conversations with my sister in the past few months and realized that there had always been signs, but I had been so caught up with my own issues that Kia had never been able to open up.
After all, she had been trying to end this engagement for some time now and all because that motherfucker was jealous of my sister getting to be a doctor alongside him. In all honesty, Rick never appeared to be the kind of person who would be a control freak in a relationship, but he had a way of manipulating the elders to get what he wants. Just like how he wanted to get engaged in a hurry when Kia had gotten her medical degree…
It was a bit of struggle, but I tried my best to calm my nerves and looked my sister in the eyes. “Then tell me what happened,” I urged Kia. “From the very beginning.”
Kia licked her dry lips as she readied to explain. “I already told you some parts of it before,” she said. “If you remember.”
“I do.”
Kia took a shaky breath, a shudder running through her body as if she had just remembered some kind of horrible experience. I curled my hand into fists, so that I had the courage to get through the whole explanation without bashing that bastard’s skull in.
Fuck! Why hadn't I seen this sooner? What the point of me being her brother if I never really understood what my sister was going through?
“Rick didn’t want me to become a doctor,” Kia finally admitted. “He told me that once we got married, he wanted me to quit my job and become a full-time housewife to take care of our house and our future kids, but of course, I did not want that.”
She continued, her eyes glistening, “How could I? I just got my dream job and was headed to becoming a surgeon just like dad…it had always been my dream! How could he just expect me to throw away everything I worked hard for and become a housewife?”
I nodded with understanding. I had always admired her ambition and her guts. She had always been my inspiration, my motivation when I was younger. She was always praised by everyone in the family for getting straight A’s and being the extraordinary child of the family. And even though it got annoying from time to time, I never hated her for it. I just hated being compared to her all the time.
“At first, Rick tried to persuade me, but I had my mind made up, and it was impossible for me to change it, so when that didn’t work, he wanted to talk to our grandmother and mother, and have them convince me to quit.”
I remembered that day clearly…it was right after Night and I had our first kiss and I had gone back home to clear my head. I had heard her talking about it then…but I can’t believe how it had completely slipped my mind…I really was a horrible brother, wasn’t I?
“It’s crazy how determined he is to make me quit.” She sighed, running her fingers over her cheeks. “But tonight, when he came to take me out for dinner at his house…things just…I don’t know what possessed him, but I think he…he was trying to get me pregnant…so that I would have to quit my job and marry him eventually.”
“God…no!” I rose from my seat and rushed to her, kneeling in front of her as I took her hands in mine. “Tell me he didn’t…force himself on you, Kia? Tell me the truth!”
“No…he wasn’t able to,” she said, looking down at her lap. “Because I told him I didn’t want that…but it just made me angry and he…hit me...”
