Kai’s P.O.V

For a few seconds, I stood there dumbfounded as I blinked at Ruby, wondering if she was a fragment of my imagination, or if I had a good too many drinks that I was now hallucinating.

But as she looked me up and down, scoffing, I could tell that I wasn’t, in fact…hallucinating.

Then she walked past me, bumping against my shoulder as she said, “I heard you moved out of your dorm and hosting a housewarming party.”

I turned to her, just as the whole room fell into pin-drop silence, all of us probably wondering the same thing that I was: How the fuck did she get here?

“Why didn’t you invite me, Kai?” she asked, looking up at me through her thick fake lashes as she tried to blink pretty. “How is that fair?”

I spun around to look at Saya, who was still standing by the door, waiting for me to usher her in—a stark difference from the bitch who barged her way in. “What the hell happened?” I demanded in a whisper. “How the hell did Ruby end up with you?”

I tried… I really tried my best to keep the venom out of my tone. But it was impossible; I couldn't hide my distaste for that… that freak! Someone who used another man’s sickness to try and take advantage of him and then had the audacity to go on about how he was liking it…was no better than the worst freak on the planet!

Saya looked at me helplessly, her lower lip trembling as she paled even further, trying to hide behind me to get away from Ruby’s line of sight. “She cornered me at the store! I was buying presents for you and Night when she forced me to show her the way here. I swear…I didn’t want to...”

But that was when I noticed the redness on Saya’s cheek. What I had initially thought of as embarrassment, turned out to be something else entirely as it was located on one cheek only, and the shade was a darker red than her natural blush. There was no mistaking what that mark was now that I’d seen it.

My blood boiled as I fisted my hands on either side, so that I didn’t lash out on a woman. I could only imagine how that vicious woman had tried to bully Saya when she cornered her and when she hadn't complied, she had the audacity to get violent, not caring about the consequences of her actions one bit.

Was this woman truly sane? Fuck! Had I been sane when I had decided to fuck her and even dated her? Why couldn’t she get it through her thick skull that I didn’t want to get back together with her?

Enraged, I ushered Saya in, slamming the door behind me and turning to face the rest. Ruby seemed especially surprised at the noise, while my friends too stood up from the floor, their expression telling me exactly how welcoming they felt towards Ruby.

“Have you gone mad, Ruby?” I snapped at her, stepping closer to her personal space. In my peripheral vision, I noticed that the others had tensed up. Tanya sat at the edge of her seat, as if she was waiting for a brawl to happen and wanted to jump in immediately. “You’re abusing other people to get what you want now? You aren’t a fucking child anymore, in case you’ve forgotten, and you can be easily thrown in prison for assault!”

I thought Ruby would at least take my threat seriously, but I should have known that someone like her did not make the habit of backing down easily.

It turned out that she had another card up her sleeve.

She smirked as she pulled out her phone. “You wouldn’t dare,” she said, that stupid smug look still etched on her stupid face. She shoved her phone in front of me, forcing me to look at whatever she had on it.

My stomach dropped as soon as I realized that she was showing me a picture of me and Night, back when we were in the pool washroom, with me giving a feverish Night a hand job.

I think the others had seen my face pale as well, because Night stepped forward, but I held my hand up to stop him. This wasn’t something he needed to see…

I wanted to scream…throw hands at her even though I had been taught as a child never to hurt a woman. How long had this sick creep had this photo? How long had she kept staring at that intimate image of me and Night and smirked to herself about having something against us? What the fuck did she even want from all of this?

At that moment…I hated her so much that I could’ve strangled her. If Saya hadn't gripped my shirt from behind, telling me that not only had she seen the photo, but had somehow known exactly angry I was, then I would’ve lashed out at Ruby by now.

“What the fuck do you want, Ruby?” I spoke through gritted teeth, my anger getting the best of me.

“I want us to get back together, Kai…isn't it obvious? Or else…I’ll post this picture on every school-related website,” she threatened, “and I’ll make sure that your reputation along with Night’s will be ruined forever, if you or your fuck buddy so much as lay a hand on my fucking hair!” She grinned, as if she had won some kind of championship. “So make your choices wisely.”

Get back together? Was she fucking serious?

After the stunt she just pulled, she was expecting me to fall to her knees and beg her to take me back or something? Was this the kind of sick fantasy she was dreaming of nowadays? How had I not seen the kind of psycho I was dealing with before?

I was so stunned that I couldn’t even speak for a good few minutes, my brain completely blank as to how to deal with this situation.

“What?” she challenged me. “Nothing to say? Not so brave now, are you?”

I gritted my teeth, trying not to raise my voice or my hands. It took an incredible amount of self-control not to do either at that moment. “Why are you doing this, Ruby?” I asked.

Even if the sudden turn of events were already surprising, what she did next was even more shocking. It happened so quickly that I did not realize what she was going to do until she did it.

Ruby turned around, marching to Night, who was standing only a few feet away… and then she slapped him with so much force that her nails scratched his cheek. I watched in horror as the cut began to bleed immediately.

Thankfully, Cole being the person nearest to Night, pulling him back and away from her before she could do something like that ever again.

“Stop being a bitch, Ruby!” He yelled at her, standing in front of Night protectively. “Just leave this place already! You’re neither invited nor welcomed here.”

“How the fuck do you have so much confidence and audacity to come waltzing around and hurting people?” Devon shouted, angrily. “Get the fuck out!”

But of course, what did I expect? This woman had nerves of steel and the audacity of a thick cowhide. “I won’t leave unless I have my Kai back!” She declared, folding her arms across her chest.

“Seriously, Ruby!” I spat at her. “Am I some kind of toy for you that can be used and tossed aside whenever you want? Do you think you’ll blackmail me into submission like some dog off the street?”

Then, as though she actually found the whole thing funny, she began to laugh in my face. “This is just rich! Ridiculous! You’re the one messing with me! You’re the one who toyed with my heart and feelings.” She raised her hands exasperatedly as she pointed at Night. “What did I lack, what did I do wrong for you to go searching for someone else? We were perfect together and then…you ended things…only to end up fucking a man!”

I crossed my arms over my chest, trying not to react to her accusations. The more we paid attention to her, the more she basked in it, trying to act the poor victim. “Stop acting so desperate, Ruby,” I told her with a sigh. “You’re causing a scene.”

“Don’t tell me what to do,” she said, pointing an accusing finger at me. “And I haven’t started causing a scene just yet. How’s this for a scene, huh, Kai?”

Spinning around, she took the closest picture frame she could find and smashed it to the floor, the glass shards flying everywhere as I jumped back to protect Saya from it. We were all stunned at her sudden rampage, our feet frozen in place at we all froze at her audacity. But she took our silence as a cue to do more damage.

She pushed over the glass coffee maker on the edge of the kitchen counter, spilling warm water and glass all over the room once again. But when she tried to head towards the cupboards to do more damage, Tanya was the first person to response.

She rushed forwards just as Ruby got her hands on a plate and went to smash it on the floor, and grabbed Ruby by the hand, ripping the plate off of her fingers before she casually handed it to me.

“You whore!” Ruby screeched at Tanya, trying to slap her as well, but little did she know…she messed with the wrong woman.

Because not only did Tanya dodge her slap on time, but she fisted her hand and punched Ruby under jaw, hard enough that it rendered her unconscious, and she fell back on the floor, the rest of us watching her drop to the ground with a painful thud, in stunned silence.
