The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 98: The Surprise Segment
Kai’s P.O.V
The lights dimmed for a moment as all the couples finished their final walk in the runway, and my heart raced as I waited for the hosts to begin, expecting the usual routine; another round of runway walks with our pairs in our formal wear. But then, out of nowhere, Zach stepped forward with an unexpected grin.
"Alright, everyone," he said, his voice booming through the mic. "I know we’ve had a lot of surprises tonight, but we’ve got one more for you!"
Zach continued, his tone playful but with a hint of seriousness. "Earlier, many of you had the chance to vote on our website for your favorite couples—that’s right, couples!—from the pageant. And now, those pairs are going to have a special moment right here on the runway!"
The audience erupted, their cheers crashing over me like a tidal wave. The sound was deafening, so loud I felt it in my chest, the floor practically vibrating beneath my feet. I winced, nearly covering my ears, but I didn’t shy away from the excitement.
Instead, I was happy that the crowd was going wild, clapping and shouting like this was the highlight of the entire show because this was exactly what I had planned.
I could barely hear myself think through the noise, my heart pounding as Zach continued hyping them up. All around me, people were moving quickly, contestants whispering to each other, and the stage director’s voice cut through the chaos, shouting directions to make this sudden change run smoothly. Clearly, we chose the right volunteers.
As the first couples started to walk down the runway, starting from the pair with the lowest number of votes, I gave Saya a small pat on the back and left her to get to Night, to whom I extended my hand in invitation.
“What the hell are you doing?” he asked, flustered.
“Well, it turns out that we weren’t as discreet as we thought we were,” I said, a smirk playing on my lips. “I mean, no wonder Ruby was onto us.”
Night tilted his head to the side, still confused. “What are you talking about?”
“The entire university voted for us as the number one couple on campus, Night,” I told him, rolling my eyes in fake-annoyance. “Now, will you take my hand or not?”
Blushing, Night finally accepted my hand and allowed me to tug him toward the stage when it was our turn to walk the runway. I tried not to squint through the blinding lights, but I desperately wanted to see Night’s father.
Thankfully, when we finally got to the end of the extended stage, I saw him sitting there, silently fuming. Beside him was Rosalie and her parents wearing the same expression on their faces.
I felt a sense of satisfaction watching them boil in anger at the sight of us, hand-in-hand, proudly walking onstage and showing off the fact that we were voted as the number one couple in the University. That must be a bitter pill to swallow.
When our walk was finished, I separated from Night without another word and went back to Saya, who had a somewhat troubled and pensive look on her face.
“What?” I asked, wondering if the nerves had gotten the best of her.
“Is it alright for you to be giving Night such mixed signals all night long?” she pointed out. “When you left him, he was looking at you with… I should say, very sad eyes.”
I shrugged. “Night was the one who broke it off with me,” I told her. “I’m just making him feel what it’s gonna be like when he no longer has me.”
Saya still looked troubled at my response. “Wait, so are you actually going to let him go? For real?”
I laughed. “We’ll see, won’t we?” I told her with a smirk. “I definitely have a plan for that; you just need to wait a bit longer.”
Finally, the frenzy in the audience began to settle as Zach took center stage again, holding a sealed envelope in his hand. The crowd had fallen into a tense, anticipatory hush, waiting for the final reveal.
“And now,” Zach said, his voice rich with excitement, “the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The results are in, and it’s time to crown the next Mr. and Miss Campus Hotshot!”
The applause started up again, but this time it was more controlled, as if even the audience was holding its collective breath.
Zach took his time, letting the suspense build, the envelope held up for everyone to see. "Remember," he continued, "this was all decided by your votes, so let’s give a huge round of applause for the audience for making this happen!"
More cheers.
Zach finally tore open the envelope, the sound of ripping paper ringing out in the stillness. He paused for dramatic effect, eyes scanning the card inside, before his voice boomed across the stage again. This guy really knew how to hype up a crowd.
“And the new Mr. and Miss Campus Hotshots are…”
The crowd leaned forward, as if physically trying to pull the name from his lips. Then, the giant screen behind us flickered to life, and in that split second, everything went silent in my mind, even though the crowd was buzzing. The names flashed across the screen: Night and Ruby.
They won by two votes. The audience didn’t wait for the hosts to finish. They erupted into a deafening cheer, the energy in the room skyrocketing once again. They roared with approval, clapping and shouting as if the announcement had unleashed a tidal wave of excitement.
Night and Ruby, standing next to me, looked stunned for a moment before their faces broke into wide smiles. Ruby covered her mouth, eyes shining, while Night gave a humble nod toward the audience, clearly soaking in the moment.
“So, who do you think was the other person who voted for them?” I asked Saya. “Because I was one of the two.”
Saya laughed. “Well, it was me.”
I grinned. “I guess we really are partners for a reason. Sorry, though, for not giving you the win.”
“It’s fine,” she grinned. “I don’t mind being the runner up if it means losing to love.”
Zach raised his hand to quiet the crowd, his smile still beaming from the energy in the room. As the cheers began to fade, he leaned into the microphone. “Alright, folks! Let’s not forget tradition. To make this even more special, we have last year’s Campus Hotshot winner here with us tonight to pass the torch!”
He walked over to me, gesturing to the stagehands who were bringing the trophies to follow me.
“As per tradition,” Zach continued, “our reigning champion, Kai Hunter, will now hand over the title to our new Mr. and Miss Campus Hotshot.” He winked at me, and I grinned back at him.
I took the Miss Campus Hotshot trophy from one of the stagehands, who quickly went backstage when his job was over. Without much of a fuss, I handed the trophy to Ruby who looked at me smugly as she took it from me. With my back to the crowd, I rolled my eyes at her. Dramatic as ever.
But then I turned, taking the other trophy from the second stagehand who scurried backstage as well, and I went over to where Night stood, and handed him the award as well. He took it with tentative hands, seeming a bit nervous.
But before we could separate ways, I placed my hand on his nape…and pulled him in, and pressed my lips against his in front of the entire school, in a searing kiss that held my whole heart.
