The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 73: Off For Good
Kai’s P.O.V
Everything happened at once. I was hauled out of the way of Rick’s line of sight, and I almost tripped over my feet. By the time I had steadied myself enough…I heard a sickening thud of a sound from right behind me, and Rick’s cry was cut short.
When my mother screamed again, it was not out of anger, but of fear. I whipped around to see what was happening and stopped breathing for a few instances when I saw the blood on Night’s forehead.
Rage blinded me, boiling in waves, making me see red. My body moved before I could think.
I pounced at Rick, going ballistic as I sent punch after punch at his already bruised body. “You unmanly coward,” I seethed. “Trying to catch me unaware? Asshole.”
I don't remember much about what else I said, but I assume it was a colorful string of curses accompanying each hit. I basically lost all control, and Kia and my father had to pry me off of Rick once they saw he was unconscious and losing a lot of blood.
“Shhh, Kai,” Kia tried to soothe me as I thrashed against my father's grip. “Please, calm down.”
“Let me go!” I roared. “That son of a bitch has to pay!”
“Kai, please.” The crack in Kia’s voice got my attention, and I stopped trying to get away from my dad’s iron grip. “I understand your anger. Believe me, I do. But you can’t let your emotions win, or else, you’ll be sent to jail for the wrong reasons.”
My subconscious mind told me that what she said made a lot of sense. But I could not accept that. I wanted to get back at that cowardly asshole. I wanted to beat him up so badly he could no longer stand. What he did to Kia, to my Night—I wanted to give it back to him tenfold.
Kia could tell I wasn’t listening to reason. “Kai, snap out of it!” she tried a different approach, since gentleness wasn’t working on me. “Do you think Night’s injury would heal if you kill Rick? You’ll only bring trouble upon yourself and to the rest of us. Plus, what’s Night gonna do with you behind the bars? Wake up!”
That got me. I suddenly had a vision to the time when he had left his house after the fight with his parents. I remembered the way he looked so dejected…so broken. I couldn’t ever imagine seeing him look like that ever again, let alone being the cause behind it.
Immediately, the fire of murderous rage that once ran rampant within me died off, and I forced myself to get rid of the impulse to kick Rick’s face one last time. When my dad finally deemed me to be level-headed enough, he let me shrug him off and watched as I went over to Night.
“Night, I am so sorry,” I said, kneeling next to him. “Are you alright? I couldn’t— I wasn’t—”
Night put a hand up to stop me from my frantic rambling. “It’s not your fault, Kia, and I’m perfectly fine.” Then he clutched at his temples, almost falling off onto the floor if I didn’t catch him in time. “Okay, maybe I’m a bit dizzy.”
I touched his forehead, and when I withdrew my hand, it was covered with blood. “Shit, this is crazy,” I said. “You sure you’re just dizzy? This looks like a serious injury.” I turned to Kia, who was staring at me as I tried to assess Night’s condition. “Kia, can you please help me treat his injury?”
I guided Night to the couch, while my mom ran off to get the first-aid kit. I stood by her side, arms crossed, watching Kia kneel in front of Night as she went to work. When I turned to look at my father, I saw that he wasn’t watching Kia do her work. Instead, he was staring at Rick’s unconscious form crumpled on the floor.
I turned to the man as well, spotting the blood spread on the pale peach carpet. For a moment, I was worried that the bastard was dead and I just may be getting jail time for removing a scum from this earth.
When Kia finished treating Night, he was no longer bleeding, and we all collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
However, my father still took the first aid kit and went over to Rick, before he started to examine him and bandage him up. I knew that as a doctor, he had sworn an oath to save every person he could, but I still turned away, unable to watch him patch up that bastard.
My mother surged forward, kneeling on the floor next to Night. She took his hands in hers and said, “Thank you so much for saving my son.” Her voice faltered in the middle, but if it’s any consolation, the way she held Night’s hand with such conviction made up for it.
“It’s not a problem at all, ma’am,” Night said, his voice was quiet, but I still heard it. “I would do it again in a heartbeat.”
I looked away from the scene, not knowing what to feel. I noticed that my father had already finished up on Rick and was just standing back, arms over his chest like me, and staring at Rick, as though he was trying to decide what to do with his body if he died.
Kia finally plopped down onto the couch beside Night, looking tired and ready to pass out. “Aren’t you guys scared that the second that man gets up, he’ll sue Kai for attempted manslaughter?” she asked. It seems that even though her body was exhausted, her mind wasn’t. “We’ll all be in trouble! Kai, especially.”
My father unravels his arms over his chest and puts his hands in his pockets, saying, “He won’t be doing that; I’ll take care of it.” With that, he pulled his phone from his pocket and went to one corner of the room to make a call, his voice low enough that we couldn’t hear.
Kia and I exchanged a look, wondering what he was going to do and who he was calling. We stared at him, and I craned my ears to try to figure out what he meant by “taking care of it,” but unfortunately, I could not hear anything.
Night took my hand and locked our fingers together, caressing it with his thumb. I squeezed him back gratefully, instantly relaxing. With him, I had nothing to fear. Surely my father wouldn’t allow me to go to jail even if he hated me. He wouldn’t let this incident put a blight on his reputation, right?
After what felt like hours, I noticed some headlights through the window curtains. It quickly went out, along with the sound of the engine, and in no time, there were people at the door.
My father’s long strides brought him to the door within five steps, and when he opened the door, he was pushed aside by Rick’s parents, his mother gasping at the sight of her beloved son’s condition on the floor.
“What the hell happened here?” Rick’s father, Richard, demanded.
My father’s face didn’t betray any emotion as he said, “Your son has been abusing my daughter, so my son took care of him. As you can see.”
Rick’s mother let out another gasp at this news, her hands flying to her mouth. “No! Rick would never! My son would never—!” she said, her voice rising frantically until Richard nudged her to silence.
“Aside from that, your precious son also hit Kai’s friend.” My father pointed at Night who was standing by the couch next to Kia, his forehead all bandaged up.
The intended effect was for them to feel sorry and apologize on Rick’s behalf. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out as expected, and instead of saying sorry for their son’s bad behavior, Richard chose to threaten us instead, “We will be taking legal action against your son, just you all wait.” He turned to his wife. “Let’s get our son out of here.”
My father watched them haul their son out of the living room, hoisting him up so that Rick’s hand was braced on both his parent’s shoulders. But before they could step out of the house, my father spoke up, stopping them in their tracks. “If you sue Kai, then I will have no choice but to countersue with cases of aggravated assault on Kai and his friend, sexual assault on my daughter, misdiagnosis of a patient, and manslaughter for not taking responsibility for his actions and causing a patient to lose their life. That’s a lot of cases.”
Richard turned around, his eyes wide with horror as he looked at my father. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“Did you really think I wouldn’t know that your beloved son misdiagnosed two patients, causing their death and then threatened the life of his patient’s family to keep their mouth shut about his reckless diagnosis at work?” He laughed without humor, and for the first time tonight, I felt genuine fear toward my father. “I’m on the board of directors, Richard. You think too little of me just because I’m the father of the bride.”
“You’re talking nonsense!” Rick’s mother tried to say, but her voice shook, telling us that she too knew about her son’s digressions. “You have no proof of what you say!”
“Do you really think so? How do you think I found out about the cases? The board had been suspicious of his activities for a long time now and if all these cases are verified,” he continued, “and they will be, not only will Rick lose his job, but he will also have his license taken away, as well as face a life in prison for misconduct. If that's what you want, then you’re free to sue us first.”
Hearing this, Rick’s parents exchanged horrified looks with each other, before they seemed to come to some kind of a silent agreement. The father, once again, was the first to anger, shouting, “The engagement is off for good! Don’t let us see Kia in front of our son ever again, you hear? Or there will be consequences.”
With that, they finally left, pushing the unconscious Rick into the backseat of their car and driving away.
Next to Night, Kia laughed. “Oh, don’t worry, I have no intention of ever seeing Rick again. In fact, they should be more worried about their precious son groveling in front of me so I’d take him back.”
