Kai’s P.O.V

I regained control of my body as I watched Ruby’s form fall to the ground, and she didn’t move afterwards, telling us that she was indeed out cold.

On instinct, my eyes immediately searched for Night and I rushed to him to see if he was okay, as I skipped over Ruby’s fallen form.

The rest of our friends went to where Tanya stood over Ruby when she said, “Help me tie this bitch up.”

“Are you okay?” I asked Night, looking him up and down as I tried to find any visible injuries other than his cheek. “Did you get hit by any glass shards or anything?” I inspected the cut on his cheek from when Ruby had slapped him. “Fuck that bitch! She left scratches. Does it still hurt?”

“Stupid,” Night shook his head as he held onto my hand. “I should be asking you that question. You were closer to Ruby there when she went ballistic. Are you alright?”

I sighed in relief. “I am, don’t worry, and I’m glad you are, too.” I took Night over to the bed to have a seat and we both caught our breaths as we watched our friends incapacitate the knocked out Ruby. “That was really… something. I can’t believe I dated her…”

“Me neither,” Night agreed. “I think she tops even my ex in the insanity charts.”

“Tell me about it…” I grumbled under my breath.

“You really had an awful taste in women, Kai,” Cole found the time to joke as they finished tying Ruby up. “Your last date turned out to be a psychopath and an abuser. A two-for-one deal; way to go!”

I flipped him my middle finger, and he stuck his tongue out at me like a child. “Have her if you want, Cole. She’s all yours.”

“I’m perfectly fine with my sanity intact, thank you very much.” Cole shuddered.

“Saya, are you alright?” Tanya rushed over to her when she found her still standing by the door, looking around in confusion. “You have bruises all over! Did she do all this to you?”

Saya nodded, swallowing hard. “I am a bit shaken up, to be honest,” she said quietly, when Tanya held up her hand to inspect the bruise around her wrist that I was only just noticing. “I didn’t… I didn’t expect Ruby to turn out like this.” She took a shaky breath. “I looked up to her like a role model since she was the winner of the last Campus Hotshot contest, but… now I don’t know what to feel anymore.”

“Oh dear, I’m so sorry.” Tanya pulled her in for a hug, and I noticed the way Saya trembled in her hold, as if she was crying. I felt bad for her really…she was a sweet girl, she hadn't deserved to be treated this way. “There, there; she’s not worth your tears, Saya.”

Saya pulled away, nodding. “You’re right,” she said, brushing the wet drops off her cheeks. “You’re right. Thanks.”

Tanya grinned as she turned back to the boys. “Now…how about you lot use those muscles to help clean this place up?”

But even her attempt to lighten up the mood didn’t work. As they all helped in cleaning up the mess Ruby made,  the atmosphere only grew heavier—not once did Night’s frown ease when he stared at the broken shards on the ground, not even when everything was cleared up.

Once we had finished up our work, we huddled together, away from Ruby, to put our heads together on what to do next.

“Now what?” Josh looked around the room. “Should we call the cops?”

“We don’t have proper evidence and she’s the one tied up,” Saya pointed out with a sigh. “Who do you think the cops will believe when she wakes up and cries bloody murder?”

“Good point,” Josh looked down at the ground in frustration.

“We should delete everything from her phone,” suggested Cole. “Then she will no longer have any leverage to use against Kai or Night.”

But Devon shook his head. “She might have a backup somewhere. I doubt she’s as stupid as to have just that one file.”

Tanya raised a hand. “Let’s delete everything anyway. At least that’s one less source we’ll have to worry about.”

Without waiting for our response, Tanya pried the phone from Ruby’s pocket, using the facial recognition feature to unlock it, she went to configure its settings. She worked on it for a few moments as well all stood around her, waiting.

“Aha!” Triumphant, Tanya showed us that the phone had been successfully formatted, leaving no trace of, well, anything on it. It was as good as new.

“Then… problem solved?” Trey asked, but he sounded uncertain.

“Hmmm… no.” We all turned to look at Tanya again who seemed to have a plan forming in mind. “Not yet. But it will be.” She said, pulling Saya to her side. “Boys, can you all step outside, please? Saya and I have… um, something to do.”

“What?” Trey asked, looking at her in alarm. “What are you gonna do?”

“Stop asking so many questions just go!” Tanya bossed us around, huffing with her hands on her hips. “Let me handle this.”

“Okay, okay…” Slowly, the rest of us headed to the door, before Tanya kicked us out into the hallway and locked the door so she and Saya were free to do god knows what.

I exchanged confused looks with Night. “Do you think the girls are planning on murdering Ruby?” I asked him. “Because I don’t want to become an accomplice to murder and spend the rest of my life in jail.”

“Hell, me neither.” Cole shuddered as he overhead us talking.

Trey laughed when he heard us talking as well. “Don’t worry,” he assured us. ”My girlfriend isn’t murderous. Well, not most of the time…Kidding!” He added the last part when he saw the look on our faces. “She is actually quite the level headed woman, always planning ahead. You think she hasn’t thought of the consequences of murder? She was already thinking of alternative ways to fix the problem before Josh even asked, ‘What now?’ She’s already thought of all the angles, even those we might not be aware of.”

“Alright. I’ll take your word for it,” I told Trey, though I was still wondering what Tanya had in mind.

After a good few moments, the door opened again, and Saya’s head popped out to announce, “You’re allowed to come back inside.”

“Well, thank you for allowing me inside my own home, I guess,” Night said sarcastically, but he was smiling at the irony, so I think he wasn’t that upset anymore.

Inside, we found Ruby laying on my bed, but this time she was untied. I looked skeptically at Tanya. “Is this safe?” I asked. “Won’t she go rabid when she wakes up?”

“I can’t say no to that exactly,” Tanya admitted, “but hey, the fun has just begun.”

She then grabbed a glass and sprayed some water on Ruby’s face to wake her up, and she woke up almost immediately.

It was crazy how quickly she sat up without giving herself whiplash. If she felt dizzy and lightheaded from the punch, she didn’t show it. Instead, as soon as she looked around the room and realized what was happening, she all but jumped of the bed, keeping her distance from Tanya as she looked at all of us in anger.

“I am going to sue you! All of you! Every single one of you! Just you wait!” She pointed a finger at Tanya. “Especially you, freak! Mark my words, I’ll put you behind the bars for good!”

Trey stepped forward to defend his girlfriend, but before he could even make a move, Tanya beat him to it. She took out her phone and showed her the screen.

I didn’t know what Tanya had on her phone, but whatever it was, it made Ruby go pale instantly. She looked so stricken that the rest of us became curious as to what it was that had the rabid Ruby go from anger to teary in a matter of seconds.

“You think you’re the only ones who can gather ‘evidence’, Ruby?” Tanya taunted, putting her phone away. “I wouldn’t do something stupid if I were you.”

Saya put her hands on her hips. “If you ever try to sabotage Kai and Night’s relationship ever again, or show anyone the inappropriate pictures you secretly took of them, then you, too, will go viral for all the wrong reasons.”

“What the…how…why…” Ruby stuttered, looking around the room helplessly. Her expression looked so genuine that I almost felt sorry for her. Almost…

Tanya cocked her head to the side. “Well? Three can play this game, Ruby.” She stepped forward, only for Ruby to take a hasty step back. “So be careful who you’re messing with.”
