The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 77: I Want To See This Forever
Kai’s P.O.V
When light started to seep into the gaps between the curtains of my room, I stirred awake from the comfort of my sleep. Night’s back was pressed against my chest, and I had one armed draped over his body, while the other was under his head, fallen asleep under his weight.
I slowly tried to get up without waking him, but was only able to fully free my buzzing arm from underneath him when he rolled over, groaning lightly in protest. “Sorry,” I said with a wince. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”
“It’s alright…” he mumbled into the pillow, voice muffled. “Need to get up anyway…”
“I’m gonna go take a shower,” I continued as I got out of bed, stretching my arms to get some blood supply going. “Wanna join me or do you wanna get your bearings sorted first?”
“I’ll join you if I manage to force myself to get up…” He groaned, settling himself more comfortably into my pillows.
I laughed, shaking my head. When I did get into the bathroom however, he followed me inside after a few minutes. We didn’t take long in the shower, and got dressed and ready to head down just as quickly—but the actual getting down part? Eh, not so much.
I was the first to finish getting dressed, but lingered by the top of the staircase, leaning against the banister. Night found me there a few moments later, raised an eyebrow, and asked, “What are you still doing here?” – As he leaned on the opposite wall.
I pressed my lips together. I didn’t want to say it out loud—but I secretly feared that everything that had happened the night before was nothing but a dream. Part of me still expected that when I would see my parents downstairs again today, I would wake back up to reality, and that dream of pure happiness, where my parents had accepted me for who I was, would be shattered.
I guess Night understood my sentiments as well, because he took my hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “It’s gonna be alright,” he told me, trying his best to give me a smile, but I could see the uncertainty in his eyes. “Whatever happens next, we’ll face it together.”
I nodded, feeling my heart give an involuntary thud. “Together.” I repeated, like a vow, and then we descended down the stairs together, ready to face whatever lied ahead.
But…
I must admit, when it came to my family, nothing ever really went the way I want it to, but now, I guess the universe thought I finally deserved to be happy, because when we finally went downstairs, I found my mom in the kitchen, making breakfast for everyone. And as I looked at the table all neat and set up for breakfast…I counted a total of five plates.
They had taken Night into count…so it hadn't been just a dream…
“Good morning, Kai. Night,” my mother finally noticed our presence, and the both of us nearly could not suppress our sighs of relief. “Could you help me set up the table?”
“Oh, of course!” Night was the first to move, and went over to where Kia was fussing over the plates and utensils.
Meanwhile, my arms found their way around my mother. “I never thought I’d say this, but you are such an awesome mother,” I whispered close to her ear, so only she would hear what I said. “Thank you. Truly. This means the world to me.”
“Son? Are you alright?” she asked, but did not push me away even as she continued to make breakfast. “Why are you thanking me when I already knew that I was an awesome mother?”
I rolled my eyes at the joke, but did not protest. “You are awesome because you still love me as your child despite knowing that I like a guy instead of a girl.”
She patted my hand. “Well, I didn’t want to steal your thunder last night, so I held back. Now let me come clean to you—I have known all along about your shenanigans and how you seem to never be able to go stable with a girl.”
“Mom…what has that gotta do with anything?” I frowned.
“Let me finish,” She said sternly, but she patted my arm once again as she continued. “Like I said, you were never able to goo steady with a woman before because you weren’t happy. But now, I am happy that you are now not only having a stable relationship, but you are also happy with your partner. You changed greatly in the past few months, and as your mother, of course I noticed that you had become more caring, compassionate and understanding. A man only changes like this when he has found his perfect match. And I can tell you right now—you have found your perfect match, and even if it’s a boy, what really matters is that you’re happy, Kai. That’s all a mother can really ask for.”
By the time my mom was finished with her speech, I could feel my eyes stinging, and I had to blink several times to clear them of the unwanted tears. God! Look at me now. I thought I hated drama but here I was, hugging my mom and being the big baby looking for acceptance. But it felt so damn good that I didn’t mind the drama anymore.
I looked at Night fondly through the kitchen window as he laughed with my sister, part of me still unable to believe that these words were coming out of my mother's mouth.
But then my mother's face shifts, though she still tries to maintain the loving tone as she said, “But you have to remember this, Kai, and I’m not trying to sound mean—but the reality is that you have chosen to be with a man, so life will be more difficult for you in the future. You will be discriminated against and scorned by others. That is how society is, no matter how modern people proclaim to be or how advanced our society becomes; there is still a majority of people out there who won’t understand your love. Question is, will you be able to handle all of that? Will you be able to hold his hand and stand against the world when the tides turn against you?”
A mother's concern. It's the first time I have felt it so genuinely; and I was touched.
But then the weight of her words sank in and I felt a slap back to reality like I never had before. I already knew that to be true, but it was still scary to have it all laid out just like that. From my mother too, no less.
I thought long and hard about what to answer her. Of course, I could handle it, but what was the best way to let her know that her son was going to be alright…?
Then I smiled, and I saw her eyes widen a bit. “As long as I have Night by my side, I’ll be able to handle anything and everything that the world throws at me.” I slowly reached forward to hold her hands, squeezing them in assurance. “I already knew what I signed up for, and I sure as hell won't let anyone stand in the way of what Night and I have. If my parents would accept me, what does it matter if other people, strangers, would not?”
My mother squeezed my hand back, the smile never slipping off her face. “I suppose I did raise you right,” she said finally. “I’m so proud of you.”
When we finally emerged from the kitchen, the plates of food in our hands, to join my family around the table, we found Night, Kia, and my dad chattering happily amongst themselves.
I couldn’t even explain the amount of joy I felt at that moment; Night looked like he was having a great time amongst my family, and when he looked up at me once during the conversation, I could tell that he too was still finding it impossible to believe the amount of acceptance surrounding us.
At one point, he said something so funny that my dad actually laughed loud and heartily, and reached over to pat the top of his head affectionately, and that was when my heart finally exploded into pieces of confetti in my chest.
This… this was a sight I wanted to see forever.
