The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 30: Falling Fast
Kai’s P.O.V
“Are you sure you’re up to this?” I asked Night as he sat on his bed, trying to get dressed for classes as he struggled with his socks. “The pool shoot will require you to get in the water and your fever still hasn’t gone down yet.”
“I’m sure.” He insisted. “I feel a lot better already.”
I highly doubted that from the way he looked like death warmed over, but I didn’t say anything else. He was a big boy. He should be able to handle himself…right?
“I’ll drop you off at your faculty.” I told him firmly as I got off my bed and slung my backpack over my shoulders before taking his backpack in my hands.
Night looked like he wanted to protest, but one look from me over my shoulders shut him up. “Fine.” He grumbled, finally able to put both of his socks on his feet before he stood up from the bed and put on his shoes next.
“Let’s just get going. I don’t want to be late for class.” He came to stand beside me, putting out his hand so that I could place his backpack on them, but his pace seemed to be slower than normal.
Instead of placing the backpack, I grabbed his hand and started pulling him towards the door. “Get your keys from the holder.” I instructed as I let go of his hand to open the door and help it wide open so he could walk out first.
“Why are you treating me like a child?” He frowned.
“Because you’re acting like one?” I raised my eyebrows at him before shutting the door and heading down the hallway. “Come on! I thought you didn’t want to be late for class.”
I heard footsteps after me and a few colorful words spoken under his breath as Night hurried after me grudgingly.
I held the elevator door open so he could walk inside, but his slower pace did leave me with more than a few concerns.
“Night, are you sure you’re feeling alright?” I asked him again as the doors closed with a ‘ding’ of a sound. “Be honest with me.”
“I told you I am, Kai.” He nodded, finally looking into my eyes. “I swear. I just feel a little tired, that’s all. Yes, I know I could’ve just stayed in the dorm and let myself get better but I have a test today that I hardly studied for, but I have to attend nonetheless because I’ll need the extra credits.”
I nodded in understanding and didn’t say anything further as we headed out of the dorm together.
Cole was already waiting downstairs with his car keys in his hands and he walked over to us as soon as we reached the entrance to the dorm.
“Took you guys long enough.” He looked from me to Night. “What’s up with you? You don’t look so good.”
“You can tell, huh?” Night sighed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s nothing, I’m just running a little fever.”
“Shouldn’t you be staying at the dorm, resting?” Cole asked him concern clear in his voice, and even though I knew that my best friend was stick straight…I couldn’t help but feel a pang in my heart that I couldn’t quiet explain.
“I have a test today that I can’t miss.” Night shrugged. “Besides, Kai has been taking care of me all night. I’ll be just fine.”
“Kai?” Cole looked at me with eyes wide in shock. “He can take care of people now? Since when? The last thing I remember, he couldn’t even keep his pet cactus alive! A bloody cactus!”
“Oh, shut up!” I slapped the back of his head in agitation. “It didn’t die, I just dropped it! It was a fucking accident!”
“Whatever you say.” Cole shrugged, a smirk forming on his lips. “Just don’t drop this guy.”
With my hands firmly on his shoulders, I turned Cole around and kicked him in the ass in the direction of his car.
“Hey! I’m going! I’m going!” He shouted, massaging a hand on his cheeks. “No need to be so violent!”
A chuckle from beside me made me snap my attention towards Night, who then tried to cover up his giggles by fake coughing.
“Let’s get going.” I turned and headed down the stairs to the awaiting car before getting into the backseat with Night. “Take us to Night’s faculty first, Cole. He’s in no condition to walk there all on his own.”
“Wow, you’re even ordering me as if I was your chauffer.” Cole said sourly while looking back through the rear view mirror.
But he did oblige and headed to the Faculty of Communication Arts first thing.
“Night!” Someone called out just as we left Cole’s car and it turned out to be Trey, one of Night’s closest friends. “Hey…car ride to school today. Fancy!”
“Night isn’t doing well.” I told Trey as I finally handed Night his backpack. “Take care of him and make sure he eats his lunch. We have a photoshoot later in the afternoon, right by the swimming club. So bring him there by 4?”
“Sure, no problem.” Trey gave me a fake salute as he slung an arm around Night’s shoulders. “See you later.”
“Yeah, see you.”
I looked over at Night one last time, just to make sure he was doing okay, and he must have guessed that I was worried because he gave me a reassuring smile and a nod before the two of them headed inside their building.
I went back inside the car and this time, sat next to Cole in the passenger’s seat, making him sigh loudly.
“Well…at least this time I don’t have to look like your chauffer.” He gave me a grin as he started the ignition and began driving back to our faculty, which was only a few minutes’ drive away. “So…is this why you asked me to get my car?”
I nodded. “Night had been unusually slow this morning. It felt like he was having difficulty walking since he kept dragging his feet all morning.”
I had texted Cole when he had been in the bathroom this morning, after deciding that I couldn’t let him walk all the way to his faculty in this state. The fever might be gone now, but that’s because I had forced him to take his meds the night before. That didn’t mean he was anywhere near recovery.
How had his parent’s not noticed he had been ill? Hadn't he gone home this weekend?
“You seem worried about him,” Cole observed. “That’s quite unusual for you Kai.”
Surprised, I turned to look at Cole. “Is it?”
“Huh!” He huffed, parking in an empty stop at the lot in front of our faculty. “Devon broke his arm during a match and you hardly gave a shit. I’ve been sick more times than I can count and did you ever even offer to buy me a coffee? As for Joshua, he gets caught doing all kinds of debauchery and you’ve never once cared to ask what’s wrong with him! But that kid gets a fever and you’re buying him dinner, feeding him his meds, having me drive him around like his personal chauffer and even asking his friends to look after him? Seriously?”
“Geez, Cole! You didn’t have to remind me of all the times I fucked up.” I held up my hands in surrender, actually feeling sorry for having acted like an asshole before. “I’m sorry man. I really am. I’ll try to be more considerate of you guys from now on.”
“That’s not the point dumbass!” Cole slapped a hand on his forehead before turning to face me. “I didn’t recall all your asshole-ness so I could guilt-trip you into being a better friend…well, maybe just a little, but that’s not the point!”
“Then what is your point?” I frowned.
“My point, my dear bestie, is that forget about figuring out your sexuality or if you’re into men or women…you’re falling for that boy and you’re falling fast. And the only thing left for you to do is accept the truth.”
Cole’s little rant left me utterly speechless, unable to move as I stared into his eyes for a hint of something, anything, that would tell me that he had been joking this entire time. But I found nothing but sincerity.
I was…falling for Night?
I blinked several times, my mind trying to process the new information. But the feeling of this sudden warmth spreading in my chest told me what I already knew, but refused to accept.
This one month trial period…the jealousy…the way I was always so possessive about him…
Cole was right.
I was falling for Night. And I was falling fast.
All I needed to do now…was accept the truth.
