The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 68: Keeping Promises
Night’s P.O.V
Ruby finally fled the house not long after seeing whatever ace Tanya and Saya had up their sleeves. The rest of us breathed sighs of relief now that the worst was over.
“Wow, that was crazy,” Cole sighed as he plopped back down onto the mattresses. “You two were amazing, Tanya and Saya. What on earth did you even do to her when you kicked us outside?”
“That’s a secret,” Saya smirked at him, keeping her emotions well hidden, as the rest of the guys frowned before eventually thought of giving up.
I actually had a vague idea of what had happened once I saw Ruby’s reaction to the photo, but I was still curious…so I pulled Tanya aside by the kitchen, and asked her that question myself.
Tanya merely shrugged. “You don’t need to worry or know about that,” she told me. “I was only helping out a friend.”
“Even if that friend is really curious about what you did to help him?” I joked.
“Yes,” Tanya laughed. “Even so.” Then her face turned serious, and I braced myself for what I was about to hear; no doubt she was about to go off on her lecture, typical Tanya style, but didn’t mean it was going to be pleasant.
I was proven correct when she warned, “You and Kai should be more aware of where and when you indulge in such intimate acts. Just because you are both men doesn’t mean that others won’t take advantage of you. Doing those things in public means that there is a risk of you not knowing if someone is filming you in secret!”
I hung my head. “Yes, I know,” I told her with a soft sigh. “It won’t happen again. From now on, Kai and I will be more cautious.”
Tanya smiled. “Good. You know, I’m just looking out for you two.”
“I know that very well.” I grinned at her. “But thank you, honestly.”
“You’re welcome.” She gave me a small hug before we returned back to the crowd.
As it had gotten later into the night, Kai and I agreed that we should just turn this housewarming party into a pajama party and invite everyone to sleep over. They all immediately jumped in on the idea, and one by one, they took turns washing up to change into some clothes we lent them before they started to arrange the floor according to rest properly.
“I don’t even know why we’re washing up,” Landon said. “Let’s be real, nobody sleeps at sleepovers. Plus, there’s still some booze left!” But he washed up anyway and got changed into a pair of my comfy pajamas.
I sat next to Kai on the bed watching our friend arrange all the food and drinks that were left and making sure there was no glass in them. I leaned back against Kai’s shoulder and he wrapped one arm around me to pull me closer, so I could rest my head on his shoulder.
“Saya seems to be getting along well with the rest of the group,” he commented before his smile turned into a frown. “But…do you think Josh is taking an interest in her all of a sudden?”
Now that I think of it, I had noticed how Joshua had been stealing glances at her since she came in and how he was cozying up to her now, as if he wanted to get close to her. “Huh…you’re right. I think he likes her.”
Kai made a thoughtful noise, and I turned to him, wondering what he was thinking. He met my eyes, his own eyes looking troubled. “What’s wrong?” I asked, frowning as well.
“It’s just…I’m kind of worried about that,” he admitted. “Josh just broke up with his girlfriend of three months, and I’m wondering if he might be considering Saya as a rebound.”
“Oh?” I turned to look at the couple in question but so far, I don’t think I saw anything of that sort regarding Joshua and Saya. But maybe I wasn’t seeing the whole picture as I didn’t know Joshua that well. After all, he was one of Kai’s besties who often stayed MIA.
Kai sighed once again. “I mean, I know it’s none of my business but Saya is such a sweet girl, and I don’t want her getting her heart broken because of Josh… Hmmm, maybe I’m overthinking it.”
When Kai continued to look at the Josh and Saya…I couldn’t help feeling a bit jealous at his concern over Saya. Why did it matter to him? Even earlier, when Ruby had gone all ballistic, he had been protecting Saya. I get that he was the closest to her, but I have long accepted the fact that when it came to Kai, most of my rational thinking went out the window.
“You once acted like her fake boyfriend to protect her from her stalker,” I started, keeping my tone light but I think even Kai could detect the sarcasm in my voice. “Are you, maybe, developing any feelings for her now?”
It sounded petty even to my own ears, but he pulled me closer and squeezed my shoulder, before leaning close to whisper in my ears.
“You shouldn’t be feeling jealous of our friends, you know.” The sound of his voice sent shivers down my spine, the good kind. “After all, you just pulled Tanya aside for a second to talk to her…should be worrying about that as well?”
I frowned. “Tanya is already in a relationship, but Saya isn't.”
“But I am.” Kai reminded me with a grin. “I am in a relationship with this…stubbornly handsome man, who is filled with insecurities and flaws but that just makes him all the more special in my books. Did I mention handsome?”
I looked up into his eyes, my heart thundering inside my chest at his sweet words. If there weren’t so many people around us, I would’ve definitely kissed him, but I didn’t want us to get teased by our friends all night long. In fact, Landon and Devon had gone to the washroom together to ‘save water’, and no one had dared to say anything to them, but I was sure that if it had been Kai and me, there would’ve been hoots and cat calls for days.
So instead, Kai pressed his forehead against mine. “I promise to love you all my life,” he said only for my ears, and if I hadn't fallen in love with this infuriating man already…then I would’ve fallen for him all over again.
“And I intend to keep my promise, you know,” he added, firmly. “So you’re not getting away from me easily. No—you won’t be getting away at all.”
“Sounds romantic,” I couldn’t help but laugh. “If not borderline psychotic.”
He laughed as he pulled away and I fiddled with the ring I always wore on my index finger, a thought suddenly popping in my mind.
Kai once told me that the glint coming off of this ring was the reason why he first spotted me in that bathroom stall. And the rest is history. But now, I took off that ring and offered it to Kai, taking his ring hand as I placed that ring on his index finger. It was a surprisingly perfect fit.
“What’s this?” he asked. “You never take it off…then why are you…?”
“It’s a promise ring,” I told him, patting his arm. “So you better not break my promise.”
He accepted it with a warm smile on his face. “I would never. Not in a million years,” he said as he held up his hand to admire the inscriptions on the ring. “It’s perfect. Any idea what it says?”
“Nah.” I shrugged. “It looked pretty, so I got it. But for some reason, I never took it off. However…I think that ring found its right place now. I guess I bought it for this very day.”
Kai looked down as me, a gentle smile on his face, but just as he was about to lean in for a kiss, almost forgetting that all our friends were probably going to tease us for the rest of the night…that was when the doorbell rang once again.
Kai and I immediately drew apart, both our eyes wide in shock as we looked at each other before turning to the rest of our friends, who looked just as worried.
Shit! Just what kind of trouble were we gonna run into again tonight…?
