The Bad Boy's Dirty Little Secret BL Chapter 47: Trouble in Paradise
Kai’s P.O.V
“Kai? Is that you?” Devon’s voice came from the other end of the line as I got out of my house and headed towards the garage. “Fucker! Where the hell are you? And who the fuck answered the phone before?”
“I’m at my house, idiot! And that was Kia!” I spoke through gritted teeth as I fumbled with the garage keys. “Where the fuck are you guys and how did you end up meeting Night?”
As far as I knew, he was supposed to be in his condo, staying out of trouble. Don’t tell me he went to some bar to get drunk and found himself in trouble?
There was a sense of dread settling in the pit of my stomach and I didn’t like it one bit.
“Oh, thank god! That saves me the explanation.” Devon let out a sigh of relief. “I’m at Landon’s place. Come quick. Your man is wasted as fuck.”
“Wait…what?” I temporarily paused my struggle with the garage keys to listen to him properly.
I didn’t know which part I should be surprised about first. The part where he said he was at Landon’s house or the part where he called Night my ‘man’.
“Guess I do need some explaining to do.” Devon sighed again, but this time, he didn’t sound all that upset. “How about you get your ass over at Landon’s house first and save Night from drowning his sorrows in that bottle? We’ll talk when you get here. I texted you the address.”
My phone beeped with an incoming message just as the call got disconnected. Opening the app, I set the directions and finally got the garage door open after placing my phone in my pocket.
“Kai! Are you sure you can drive there on your own?” Kia came after me, her eyes mirroring the concern in my heart. “You haven’t driven in a long time.”
“Doesn’t mean I can’t drive.” I told her, getting into the car. “Don’t worry, I’ll get your car back safe and sound tomorrow.”
“Just drive safely.” She nodded. “Just…tell me, okay? Whatever is going on. I don’t know what I did wrong but if I offended someone or…whatever the fuck it is…just tell me.”
I sat in the driver’s seat quietly for a couple seconds, wondering how I was even going to do that. Especially since I promised Night that we would be keeping this a secret from everyone; at least for the time being.
“It’s nothing serious.” I told her with a tight smile. “Just a friend of mine. He’s in bad shape so I have to go pick him up.”
“Is it the same friend who was at the hospital?” She asked, making me pause with my hand on the ignition. “It’s him, isn't it?”
“Yes.” I nodded, before turning the keys and the engine came to roaring life, drowning out whatever my sister was about to say next.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” Was all I said to her as I sped out of the garage and headed down the road to take a left onto the freeway. After that, all I had to do was follow the navigation system and I had reached Landon’s house in less than twenty minutes.
It wasn’t a condo like I had expected, but a two storied house in a nice locality in Red Deer. However, another unexpected sight was that of Devon and Landon coming out of the house together in matching pajamas as soon as I parked in their driveway.
“So this is where you disappear to nowadays?” I raised my eyebrows at one of my best friends. “No wonder Cole and Josh can’t get a hold of you on weekends.”
“I’ll explain all that tomorrow…but right now, I think you should go to Night.” Devon winced. “I don’t think he’s in a good mood.”
“Why? What happened?” I frowned, already heading inside the house as Devon and Landon showed me the way.
“He showed up here unannounced.” Landon said with a sigh. “Normally, he always calls when comes over to visit, but this time, he was just standing outside the door looking like he just got hit by a truck. I don’t know what happened, but he seems really upset about something.”
“Wait…so he was here when he called?” I frowned. “Since when?”
“Around nine o’ clock.” Landon shrugged, coming to a stand outside a door. “He’s been drinking ever since. I didn’t want to send him away in case he ends up in a bar and gets into trouble, so we have been keeping him company.”
Nine in the evening? How was that possible? He left the dorm around seven in the evening and it takes at least forty minutes for him to drive all the way here. Then what had happened in the hour that he had been in the condo to make him drive all the way here unannounced?
“Alright. I’ll get him.” I pressed my palm to the door.
“How about the two of you stay here tonight.” Devon suggested. “It’s almost eleven and going out right now with Night being drunk like that? I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Do you guys have a spare room?” I raised my eyebrows.
“Yup.” Landon pointed to the door next to one we were standing in front of. “There’s the guest room. Has a bathroom too. Feel free to crash. I’m tired. I’ll be heading to bed now.”
With that, Landon sauntered over to another room across the hallway and slammed the door shut, leaving me alone with Devon.
“Before I deal with Night…what the fuck, Devon?” I gave him a serious look. “How long has this been going on?”
“Almost two months now.” Devon shrugged like it was nothing.
“Two fucking months?” My eyebrows all but disappeared in my hairline. “And you never told any of us?”
“Landon isn't exactly comfortable with us discussing our relationship out in the open.” He shrugged. “Honestly, I don’t even know why because he’s Night’s best friend, but I guess he’ll tell me when he’s ready.”
I nodded in understanding. “Alright. I’ll go see to Night. See you in the morning.”
“Goodnight, man.” Devon gave my shoulders a squeeze before heading to the room that Landon had entered not long ago and shut the door behind him.
I took a deep breath, bracing myself for what was to come and pushed open the door to the kitchen…and found Night sprawled out on the floor with empty beer bottles all around him and he still had the strength to reach out for another one before bringing it to his lips and taking a sip.
He was still wearing the clothes that he had left the dorm in, but he did not look okay. The stench of alcohol filled the kitchen, making me scrunch up my nose as I entered the room, and snatched the bottle out of his hands before he could take another sip.
“Enough, Night.” I told him when he protested. “You’ll hurt yourself.”
“Kai?” He frowned, squinting to look at me. “It is you…”
“Yes. It’s me.” I took a hold of his shoulders and helped him off of the floor after a bit of struggle. “How much did you have to drink?”
“3…no…5…I don’t rememmmbberrr…” He slurred, before laughing at his inability to even talk properly.
So I helped him walk out of the kitchen and into the room that Landon had pointed at before. But as soon as we entered the room, he seemed to sober up a bit…and not in a good way.
“I don’t want to talk to you.” Night said grumpily as soon as the door shut behind us.
“You got the wrong idea, Night.” I told him as I locked the door and turned on the lights in the room. “I went home after you left, to ask my sister about that condo. She was the one who answered the call. It’s a simple misunderstanding.”
“Do you think I’m an idiot?” He snapped, turning to face me, but I saw him stagger a bit. “You think I’ll believe that shit story you’re trying to pull?”
“Night…I told you. It was my sister. Why don’t you believe me?” I sighed, reaching out to touch his shoulders, but he jerked my hands away. “Night!”
“I don’t believe you…you liar!” His voice was slurred, indicating just how drunk he was, especially when he couldn’t even stand straight. “You tried to go back to someone else, didn’t you? Who was it? Was it Ruby? Or was it someone else?”
“God! Shut up, will you!”
I grabbed his shoulders, firmly this time and turned us around before pressing his back against the wall and slamming my lips onto his to shut him up before he could protest once again.
The taste of alcohol on his lips was a strong reminder of just how drunk he was. He struggled against my grip, but I held his hands and pressed them above his head with a hold on his wrist, pressing my body closer to his as I deepened the kiss.
We had to eventually come up for air, and I could feel the fight leaving his body, slowly but surely.
“Meanie…” Night whispered, his lips trembling slightly.
I let go of his arm so that I could wrap my arms around him. “What happened?”
But he just shook his head against my shoulders, his arms coming around to wrap around my waist tightly. “I don’t wanna talk about it.”
His voice was barely above a whisper, and something told me that his return to the condo had probably been filled with unexpected surprises…something that he probably wasn’t ready to tell me yet.
“It’s alright.” I pressed a kiss on top of his head. “Take your time. I’ll be right here.”
Night’s grip tightened on my waist and I could feel his shoulders shaking slightly, followed by the wetness on my shit…it didn’t take a genius to figure out that he was crying.
“Please don’t leave me…”
The raw vulnerability in his voice shook me to the core. Something really bad must have happened for him to say that. And no matter how much I wanted to urge him to tell me, his silent cries broke my heart, and I didn’t was to press on any longer.
“Never.” I told him, holding onto him a little tighter. “I’ll always be here for you…as long as you want me to.”
