Druid in the Marvel Universe Chapter 111: I Am a Good Person

Megan stared at Alvin, her voice shaky, "Th-this can't be real!" Her gorgeous face twisted in despair.

Alvin didn't push her buttons any further. She was just a brainwashed babe, but let's be real, any guy would be into a hottie like her!

Cross, on the other hand, was cool as a cucumber. After hearing Kingpin's spiel, he didn't flinch and said with confidence, "This is all Sloan's doing. His name popped up first on the Loom of Fate. He's the one who messed up the Assassins' Guild. Sloan's gotta go! That's my mission!"

Alvin just pursed his lips and kept quiet. Trying to change someone who doesn't wanna change? Especially a grown-ass man? Yeah, right.

James finally lost it. Ignoring the gash on his thigh, he charged at Cross, shoving him to the ground and yelling, "Is this why you never looked at me?

All for that stupid loom?

You're a total jerk!

Do you even know how Mom and I lived?

Where were you when Mom died?

You selfish prick, you were never a dad to me. Why'd you even come looking for me?"

James was finally showing some guts, at least he was letting it all out.

Cross was floored. He didn't expect James to go off like that. Propping himself up on his elbow, he forgot to even sit up. He said sadly, "I couldn't let you be in danger. Sloan's goons have been after me, and I've been watching over you from a distance!

From my apartment's top floor, I could see your little house by the light rail. I watched you leave at 7 AM and come back at 8 PM every day."

James was stunned, then he got even angrier, "So you watched my girlfriend cheat on me with my coworker every day? Did you ever think about how I felt? Why do I have to live this crappy life, dealing with this damn heartache every day!

Why didn't you come see me?"

James broke down, crying like a kid, like the world owed him a hug!

Cross sat up and hugged his son, saying sadly, "I had my mission. It's why I exist. I'm sorry, James, for putting you in danger.

You're right, I wasn't a good dad. I'm sorry I didn't give you a happy childhood.

But I do love you, that's the truth. I didn't dare get close to you because it would make you a target for them!"

James bawled in his dad's arms, letting out all his pent-up pain. He looked like a mess. What kind of life makes a guy this weak?

Cross had a lot to answer for! All these years, his mission was just a mission, stuck in his head. On one side was his so-called duty, and on the other was his son, whom he could only watch from afar. He failed at both.

That was pretty lame. If it were Frank, he wouldn't have had so many hang-ups!

If Alvin were in this mess, he'd think, "If I can't beat you, I'll just take my kid and bounce. The world's huge, good luck finding me!"

So Alvin didn't feel sorry for the father and son. A lot of tragedies come down to character. That's just how it is; maybe that's why the world sucks sometimes!

Bad people live it up, doing whatever they want! Sure, their endings usually suck too!

Good people just try to fight off the world's crap, struggling to find a bit of happiness in all the chaos! And maybe, in the end, they still get nothing!

At least now, the father and son were back together, which was something, right?

Alvin glanced at Megan's gorgeous face and those empty eyes, feeling a twinge of something. He knew he had to step in, or these three were headed straight for a train wreck.

He decided to let Megan go, freeing her from Sunvine. Sure, she was brainwashed, but she was also a knockout. And honestly, who cares about the people she offed? Were they as hot as her?

As soon as Megan was untied, she almost toppled off the lounge chair. Jessica, being the sweetheart she is, caught her just in time.

Megan looked like a beautiful shell, totally hollowed out, slumped on the lounge chair. Her despair was so intense that Alvin almost wanted to tell her she was flashing everyone, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

It's no shocker she looked like this; her whole belief system just crumbled.

Alvin, a lifelong atheist, thought it was kinda dumb to lean on some so-called faith instead of using your own brain. Isn't thinking what makes us human?

If they just thought, doubted, and checked things out, they wouldn't fall for the "Loom of Fate" nonsense.

Seriously, people need to read more books!

Seeing Ginny, all cute and messy, staring at Megan, Alvin made up his mind. After this whole mess, he'd get her into kindergarten come September. No more pouting or acting cute to get out of it. She's a smart kid, and he didn't want her turning into a tomboy.

Dinner was fish, and for Alvin, the chef, it was a breeze!

Jessica and Ginny were chowing down like there was no tomorrow. As for Cross and his kid, let them talk it out. There'd be leftovers.

Alvin walked over to the lounge chair, trying to look all serious. He waved a hand in front of Megan's face and asked softly, "Wanna eat something?"

Megan's eyes flickered, showing a bit of life, but she still looked out of it.

Alvin checked his watch and said, "You haven't moved for eight hours. You sure you don't wanna do something?

Or do you assassins have a different setup than us?"

As soon as he said that, Megan sprang up like a cat and darted into the nearby grove.

See, no matter how bummed you are, you still gotta eat, drink, and, well, you know. After that, going back to being sad is just awkward, especially if someone saw you!

As someone who's been there, Alvin knew that if you take your pissed-off girlfriend out to eat and she's still mad after, the problem's you. Best to bail early!

Megan didn't try to escape or seem embarrassed about her urgent bathroom break. She just sat next to Ginny and started eating.

Alvin felt a bit miffed. You're eating my food, can't you at least smile? I'll get you back for this later!

Ginny looked at Megan, then at her dad, and gave him a big, goofy grin before diving back into her grilled fish.

Alvin hurried to grab some utensils.

Seeing him busy, Megan softly said, "You seem like a good guy."

Alvin was ticked. What do you mean I seem like a good guy? I am a good guy!
