Druid in the Marvel Universe Chapter 72: I Have High Hopes for You
Alvin personally cooked a large steak and served it to Steve.
Pouring himself a glass of beer, he clinked glasses with Steve and said, "Buddy, try my cooking, the best steak in Hell's Kitchen."
Steve downed the beer in one gulp, picked up a knife and fork, and started eating.
This old soldier ate quickly but with great enjoyment, finishing the large steak in less than five minutes.
Steve gave Alvin a thumbs-up and said, "Great steak! I haven't had such a good steak in years. Buddy, you could make a fortune with this skill."
Alvin waved his hand and said, "I used to cook steaks for a living because I had to support my family. Now, it's just a hobby. I'm glad you like it."
Alvin pointed to Steve's phone on the bar and laughed, "Where did you get that phone? You don't see many of those around anymore. Only old-timers use those, and carrying one won't attract any girls."
Steve shrugged and said helplessly, "When I first got it, I thought it was advanced. I didn't realize it was outdated. Maybe they think an outdated person should use outdated stuff!"
Alvin shook his head and laughed, "That's not true. Some things get better with age, like that record we played today. I really like it; you can't just dismiss everything.
Also, people don't get outdated unless their hearts do, or they get tired of life! Which one do you think you are?"
Steve took a sip of beer and said somewhat confusedly, "I don't know. I just feel like everything changed when I woke up, and I don't fit in with the world anymore.
I want to take a break and really experience life. No wars, no death..." His voice trailed off, and Alvin couldn't hear the rest.
Alvin smiled, poured him another beer, and said, "Then take a break. If you don't live, you'll never experience life. Buddy, I don't know what you've been through, but you were right when you said people need to look forward.
Or are you broke? If that's the case, your quality of life might suffer a bit!"
Steve shook his head with a smile and said, "My pension should be pretty good. Someone even offered me a job, but I turned it down."
Alvin took a sip of beer and said, "If I were you and didn't need money, I'd do what I wanted to do."
Alvin's eyes lit up with longing, "Ride a motorcycle down Highway 1 to the end, enjoy the different scenery along the way, taste the different foods, and maybe have an unexpected encounter."
Steve seemed inspired by Alvin's words, took a sip of beer, and asked with a smile, "Why don't you try it yourself?"
Alvin smiled and waved his hand, "Maybe someday! But not now. I'm the principal of a community school, and I can't leave the kids just to go on a possibly fun motorcycle ride."
Steve laughed and said, "Then why are you encouraging me to go? You haven't even done it yourself."
Alvin laughed heartily, "Yes, I haven't done it, but it's tempting, isn't it? You said you're tired of your old life, so isn't this a good choice?"
Steve said somewhat confusedly, "Maybe! I should give it a try."
The two continued chatting. Interestingly, Alvin knew who Steve was but joked with him as if he didn't. Steve didn't know Alvin knew who he was and pretended to be Captain America in a joking manner.
They had a great time, but it was tough for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents eavesdropping in a Brooklyn apartment.
Every word of Alvin and Steve's conversation was recorded and sent back to headquarters.
A middle-aged male agent, who seemed to be the leader, paced back and forth anxiously, seemingly trying to make a decision.
If it weren't for the fact that they were at the Peace Hotel in Hell's Kitchen, he would have already sent people to follow them.
Are you kidding? Who is that? America's first superhero, the super-soldier who defeated Red Skull and ended World War II.
And now he's in Hell's Kitchen. If anything happens, his director will go crazy.
Especially when he heard Alvin suggesting Steve take a motorcycle trip, the lead agent felt a headache coming on. A government asset worth billions of dollars, running around America unsupervised, was unimaginable.
Just as the lead agent was about to call his director, his phone rang.
He answered and heard Director Fury's voice, "Stay where you are. I'll send someone to take over watching the Captain. Remember, do not approach the Peace Hotel. You can't handle the people in there."
The lead agent breathed a sigh of relief. Since someone else was taking over, it was no longer his problem.
Honestly, monitoring Captain America was stressful for him, not because Steve was hard to handle, but because everyone grew up hearing Captain America's stories. Deep down, everyone had a bit of a hero complex. Monitoring a legendary superhero seemed ridiculous to any normal person.
In the restaurant, Steve, in a good mood, was drinking his fifth beer of the day.
He playfully took off his flight jacket, showing his muscular arms to Nick, making Nick drool with envy.
Nick, acting like a little adult, patted Steve's arm and said, "Buddy, you're really strong. Maybe you could come to our school as a gym teacher. I'm sick of our bald, fat teacher.
He can't even run faster than I can hop, yet he always yells, 'Run, boys, run! You need to get strong!' Wow!" Nick mimicked his teacher's voice, making Ginny, who was lying in her dad's arms, giggle.
Steve laughed at Nick's words and patted the head of this kid, who, despite missing a leg, had a very healthy mind. "Buddy, I'll think about it. Maybe being a gym teacher isn't a bad idea.
Actually, I'd rather be a soccer coach. I used to be a huge soccer fan."
Nick got even more excited and said, "You're a soccer coach too? My gosh, then you should come to our school. You'd be a star.
Our high school team coach only knows how to yell, 'Zach, take him down, break his bones!'"
After mimicking the coach, Nick waved his hand angrily, "Coach Bill is a total amateur. Last semester, we had 'Bulldozer' Zach, 'Grizzly' Anton, 'Panther' Rami, and 'Speedster' Vic. We only got second place in New York State.
His playbook is only this thick! About fifteen pages." Nick measured a small distance with his fingers.
Steve was a bit dizzy from Nick's chatter but increasingly interested. He laughed and asked, "So, which school are you from? Maybe I should submit a resume. My credentials are pretty impressive, haha!"
Nick pointed to Alvin excitedly and said, "You can start the interview now. This is our principal, Mr. Alvin Ye.
I think you have a great chance, buddy. I'm rooting for you! Haha!"
