Druid in the Marvel Universe Chapter 132: Rule-Abiding Alvin

7 min 59.3K views

Alvin was finally getting the hang of piloting the mech, but man, he couldn't go too high or too fast!

The helmet's data was a mess, and the voice commands were always a step behind. Luckily, Angel was pretty smart, and Jane could handle the easy flying stuff. The tricky parts? Well, that was up to luck.

Alvin figured he'd never soar through the sky like Tony.

But who cares? Alvin always thought keeping his feet on the ground was the best. Flying wasn't all that, and people didn't need to be up in the sky all the time; it wasn't even that exciting!

California wasn't too far from New Mexico. After about two hours of flying, Alvin was almost there. If it weren't for that F22 pilot who decided to tag along for a bit, he might've gotten there quicker.

Listening to the chatter on the communicator, Alvin felt like he was getting pulled over for speeding, which made him a bit jittery and caused him to veer off course!

By the time he got to the hotel where Professor Nicolas was staying, it was nearly 3 AM, and the whole town was dead quiet.

Alvin stood outside, checking out the hotel. It looked like Professor Nicolas's buddy Eric wasn't exactly rolling in dough!

He'd called his old friend for help and ended up in a mess himself. Alvin would have to remind Nicolas to steer clear of these guys in the future; the dude wasn't getting any younger!

The hotel's lights were off, so Nicolas was probably already asleep. Alvin figured it was best not to wake him. The old guy didn't sleep much anyway and usually got up around five. Waiting a couple of hours wouldn't kill him!

The War God 3 had a sweet temperature control system. After chatting with Angel, Alvin found out he could even play some tunes. He found a spot on the steps outside the hotel, leaned against the wall, and dozed off to some chill music.

Early in the morning, Phil rolled up with Professor Eric and his two students to the town hotel.

Last night, he had convinced Professor Eric to hand over the data they'd recorded over the past few days. S.H.I.E.L.D. was all over that data.

As for the blond giant, Phil was super curious because the guy claimed to be from Asgard and called himself "Thor," saying the hammer was his weapon.

Even though Phil couldn't see anything special about him other than his buff physique, since the dude had tried to steal something, they decided to lock him up. After dropping off Professor Eric, this "Thor" would be sent to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s branch in California, where the pros would deal with him.

Phil was kinda leaning towards believing him because the whole thing was too coincidental, and he knew some secrets about aliens, knowing humans weren't alone.

But why did this "Thor" lack the power a god should have? He got taken down by a guard with a taser, which was super weird and didn't match his big talk!

Maybe he was just a nutjob with a few screws loose, Phil thought as he drove.

When the car pulled up to the hotel, Phil immediately spotted the War God 3 chilling on the steps, leaning against the wall.

Most people might not notice, but Phil was sure he wouldn't mistake it. This had to be the mech that took down that gray giant in New York, reportedly called War God 2. Alvin was probably the pilot. Phil hadn't expected Alvin to get here so fast; did he fly all the way?

The War God 3 looked like a silent warrior, sitting on the steps with its back against the wall. Phil wasn't sure if Alvin was inside, but after some thought, he decided to take Professor Eric and his two students inside first to grab the data.

A tired Professor Eric, flanked by two agents with briefcases, headed to a room on the second floor. He was gonna copy his research data for the agents in exchange for them not holding him accountable.

Jane was tailing Phil, trying to convince him to let Thor go. "Sir, Thor's just a big goof with a few screws loose. Can you cut him some slack? He hasn't really done any harm, right?"

Phil gave her a warm smile and said, "Sorry, Jane. Actually, you should thank Alvin for getting here so fast; he vouched for you.

At this point, you should try to distance yourself from this guy to avoid getting into more trouble!"

Jane shook her head, bummed out, and ran to the car where Thor was being held. She saw Thor inside, looking all down and muttering to himself.

Jane knocked on the car window, and Thor rolled it down, looking over with eyes that had lost their fight from the day before, now filled with helplessness and despair.

Darcy, the busty chick, was immediately drawn to the War God 3 as soon as she got out of the car. Being from New York, she recognized the mech right away.

Ignoring everyone else, she dashed into the room to grab a digital camera and then plopped down next to the War God 3, striking all sorts of poses for selfies.

Alvin, who was snoozing, felt someone messing with his arm. When he opened his eyes, it was already daylight. A girl had her face close to his helmet, snapping selfies with a digital camera.

Alvin patiently waited for the girl to finish her selfies before making the War God 3 stand up.

Darcy squealed in excitement when she saw the mech move, then watched as a tall young guy stepped out of the armor.

After checking out the guy's outfit, Darcy sighed in disappointment. He wasn't particularly buff, and his clothes didn't scream rich. He must be the mech pilot Mr. Stark had mentioned on TV. Too bad, he wasn't her type!

Phil heard the ruckus and looked over, confirming that Alvin had indeed arrived. He thought he should document this; Alvin's mech must have flight capabilities. Otherwise, Phil couldn't figure out how it had made it from Los Angeles to New Mexico in just a few hours.

Alvin saw Phil and gave him a nod, signaling that Professor Nicolas was probably already up.

Alvin turned and used a remote to lock the War God 3, which beeped twice and flashed its helmet lights three times. Alvin nodded in satisfaction; this was what he called "advanced" design! All those other features were just a waste of money because he didn't need them at all!

Phil was momentarily stunned, then smiled and walked up to Alvin, saying, "I didn't expect you to get here so fast. I've already talked to Professor Eric, and he's gonna hand over some of their recorded astronomical data to us. In return, we won't press charges against them."

Alvin liked this approach; it was best to talk things out. Wasn't that great?

Seeing Professor Nicolas and Domingo coming downstairs, Alvin said to Phil, "That's good. It's best to clear things up. Professor Eric has nothing to do with our school; he's just a friend of Professor Nicolas.

In fact, if you hadn't come to bother Professor Nicolas, I wouldn't even be here. I was enjoying a nice trip."

Phil was annoyed by people who didn't respect S.H.I.E.L.D. His run-ins with Alvin had never been pleasant.

But he had to admit that Alvin was a rule-abiding guy. As long as things were done by the book, he was generally willing to cooperate!

The unpleasant experiences with Alvin were mostly due to his own unreasonable behavior.

This had little to do with Alvin's abilities. Even if he were an ordinary guy willing to hire a lawyer to confront S.H.I.E.L.D., they wouldn't be able to do anything to him. An organization dedicated to maintaining world peace wouldn't unjustly persecute civilians.

If it did, then the organization would have no reason to exist.
