Ayla

Bullets flying everywhere, the team shooting and I am stuck behind Thane, unable to help in anyway. I don't like it, but I don't think I would like to die either. Cyrus is a natural that never misses and his newly found mate appears to be as well. Thane pulls me down to reload, and the others get closer for a huddle, but before we can get directions from Thane, a loud noise can be heard above and we look up to see a helicopter flying overhead and in the back of the helicopter, wearing a headset and watching the fight unfold is none other than my father.

A loud growl cuts off my shock as Thane registers his presence as well. "Fuck. No wonder we can't track him down. His money goes further than we realized, but he made a mistake. We now know to look for a helipad. I didn't see one here, that means wherever he is hiding has one, that narrows down the possibilities but more talking later. We need to move. We need to finish them off here. We can't lead them back to Pack Clarke or the rendezvous sight. The chopper won't be able to find us in the dense canopies and there could be more snow coming. That will work in our favor. Finish up here and then we make a break for it." Thane tells us our plan, and we nod in agreement. Thane mind-links the rest of the teams the plan and what to expect.

I can't help but look up and study the Alpha I used to call father. He looks pretty much the same, but instead of a look of indifference, he has a look of rage on his face. I can see him yelling something into his headset as the helicopter circles back around. "I'm sorry Ayla. I don't have anything to get a helicopter out of the air, but I will next time," he reassures me, and my heart is torn in two. Part wants to make my father explain everything right now, tell me I am wrong and have a family member again. Part of me wants to see his helicopter crash into the mountains. I know that I currently can't have either and that is frustrating. I try to compose myself, knowing now is not the time to break.

Cyrus and Raven work as a team. They easily flow together with taking down shifters. "We should shift and make a break for it." Cyrus states.

"No, he may not recognize Ayla from that high up. I don't want to let him know she is here either."

"Look at her. She is white on white, pretty hard to miss Thane."

"Point taken. Get into the forest first, then shift. We run fast and hard until we get to the rendezvous point, then we travel as far as we can before camping. Tyler has the rescued on the move already. Let's go." We break and Thane entwines our fingers. I look over my shoulder and can see Cyrus doing the same for Raven, except she scowls at him. She didn't remove her hand though. That's a good start.

We bolt through the grounds into the forest and trudge our boots through the snow. The helicopter can be heard above us, but we can't see it. I am running behind Thane when I realize his arm is bleeding. "Thane, you've been hurt. You're bleeding." I say, trying to pull my arm back and look him over, but he isn't having any of it.

"I don't even feel it, keep moving Little Wolf." and I do. "Little wolf, fitting nickname." Raven says while running and I suppose she is right. They all tower over me. She is shorter than the guys, but still a good six to seven inches taller than me.

"You want a name my fire haired, death God?" Cyrus asks her.

"That is actually fitting except I am female."

"Hell yeah you are. My female." Cyrus reminds her as we come to a rest. Raven makes a scoffing sound in response, and we all look at each other as Thane starts pulling off gear to shift. He is nothing but black fur before his paws hit the ground. Cyrus and Raven follow suit. Cyrus' wolf Artemis is almost as big as Ronan with his dark gray/black fur and Raven shakes out her coat of red/brown fur. She is beautiful and big. Clearly not an omega, but almost as big as the other wolves. I hesitate a few seconds before shifting myself and shaking out my white fur. Raven's wolf is staring at me, likely very confused as Thane leads through the snow and we bolt behind him.

I am glad I am gifted, or I would fail at keeping up. Thane wasn't lying when he said we would run hard. Our wolves are fast on their feet, bounding through the terrain as if they have gone through these woods a thousand times, despite it being the first time up here. *"You did phenomenal today, Ayla. I am really proud of you. You saved us from casualties and didn't crack under pressure. I hope you realize how strong you are."*

*"You still got hurt and I couldn't stop that at all. I don't like feeling helpless. I won't be able to hide my gifting forever."*

*"I know you won't, but I want you to for as long as we can."* Thane mind-links and I can feel his love for me through the bond, also mixed with a faint trepidation. We can't predict the future, but I know he plans to protect me as much and as long as he can. *"How are you feeling? Do you feel okay?"* He asks, and I am not sure if he is referring to mentally or physically.

*"I feel good. Emotionally I am a mess as this didn't end the way we are hoping, but I can deal with that later."*

*"We will get answers Ayla. Raven might know some as well. Especially if she was taken for a different reason than you. You heard her, she is a weapon. I for one am eager to find out all about that."*

*"You better not be trying to find out all about it too hard my royal brother or I will tear your damn head off."* Cyrus butts into the mind-link.

*"Oh, I bet that protectiveness and jealousy you're dealing with isn't fun, is it? Probably should have gone easier on me, my dick headed brother. I am going to have fun with this."* Thane teases. I know he wouldn't cross any boundaries, but I haven't known Cyrus for as long as Thane has, but I am sure Thane has a lot of make up in the payback department he plans to do.

*"Maybe I should call her by whatever name you give her. See how you like it."* Artemis growls and flashes fangs, Raven oblivious to the mind-link conversation.

Artemis and Ronan run neck to neck as Raven, and I follow. You can see their wolves being drawn to each other. Often checking on each other, scenting the air, occasionally snarling at each other. They both must have big personalities that are even bigger in wolf form. I hope the pack is ready for these two. Ronan stops and scents a deer trail before turning around and sniffing Aramana all over. He rubs his head and neck all over Aramana and she reciprocates before he leads us up another trail.
