Ayla

With the sun's rays cascading through my window, I awaken groggy and confused. Last thing I remember was Thane giving me the first orgasm any alpha has ever given me. I was lost in its ecstasy and aftershocks. Now I am alone in my bed. Do I regret what happened with Thane? Yes. Because once he discovers what I truly am, it could be all over for myself or for him. Do I regret the most pleasurable orgasm of my life with the most gorgeous, thoughtful shifter yet? No. However, I can't feel anything but disappointment waking alone. Part of me feels ashamed of the mere thought I had that he would stay and hold me.

Running my hands down my face and rubbing sleep out of my eyes, I sling my legs over the side of my bed with a groan. Stretching, I get up and pad my way to the bathroom for a quick shower. Why? I don't know. I have nowhere to go and nobody to see. I find myself contemplating my place here in this pack. One minute I am okay with staying, the next I am determined to leave. I believe the latter has a lot to do with Thane. Just thinking about what we did has my body heating up again.

After dressing, I check my phone but find no messages from him. What did I expect? Sappy words? Apologies? I have no idea. Sitting on the couch, close to death from boredom, I am jolted from my thoughts by a knock on the door. Peering through the peep hole, I can see it is Monica with a tray of food. He can't message me, but he can order food for me? I take a deep inhale and let her in. She is beautiful and graceful. Reminds me a lot of my younger sister. Oh, what I wouldn't give to see her again.

"Thane ordered you some breakfast this morning and I am just delivering it. Let me know if you need anything else." Before she can leave, I grab her wrist and hold up my index finger.

"You want me to wait?" I nodded my head "yes" and head to the island to get my writing pad. Before I can stop myself in this moment of courage, I quickly scribble out my note and pass it over to her.

"You want me to show you the kitchen?" I nodded to my head "yes." Once upon a time I loved sneaking into the kitchens at our castle estate. Learning how to bake from the staff and Miss Mary's famous double chocolate chunk cookies were the highlight of most of my days.

"Well, I am not sure I should do that. Alpha Thane didn't say I couldn't, but I may need his permission." I shake my head "no" and quickly scribble another note.

"He never said you couldn't leave your room. Are you sure?" I nod my head "yes" and she lingers on me for a moment before agreeing.

"Okay, eat your breakfast and I will be back in an hour to give you a kitchen tour. I will be on break then anyway." I smile and wave "bye" to her and quickly turn to devour my omelet and doughnuts. Doughnuts first, of course.

After breakfast, Monica is true to her word and arrives on the dot. We walk to the elevators and take them down to the mess hall and kitchen. I feel my pulse quickening and breathing increase knowing that for the first time, I am going to see other shifters. I am making this decision myself, but I would feel a lot safer if Thane was here.

"It will be okay Ayla. Alpha Thane has made those that live here aware of your stay and why. Nobody will give you trouble or bother you. We are really a friendly pack. Several women have passed down these halls, rescued like yourself. Plus, we all remember what Alpha Thane and his family went through with his sister. We have a special place in our heart for all the women brought here. Whether they stay or go. They are with us forever."

The elevator doors open and I am greeted by shifters talking amongst themselves in the hall. Smiling as they pass me. Some even stop and introduce themselves. It takes a minute for me to start relaxing enough to shake hands instead of giving a curt nod, but I eventually get the hang of it. It has been too long since I have had positive interaction with a pack.

We enter the kitchen, and the smells take me back to a happier time. My sister and I ran through the halls, sneaking into the kitchen to steal desserts. Hiding in the oversized cupboards so we could sneak more. Looking back on it, I am sure Miss Mary, and the others probably scented us in there and allowed us to steal their desserts anyway.

After meeting the kitchen staff and leaving with a handful of cookies, I find myself starting to feel overwhelmed and slightly anxious at the thought of venturing to another floor or meeting any other shifters today and decide it would be best to head back to my room. I have a lot to think about and maybe I need to make another list or two about staying vs going again. I would also like to talk with Eric about reconnecting with my wolf. However, I may not accomplish either because I am greeted by a gorgeous wolf shifter, but this one is Cyrus not Thane.

"Well hello hot stuff. You are just who I was looking for. Well, actually I was looking for Thane, but I would rather spend time in your company princess."

If it is one thing I have learned about Thane's beta, it is that he is definitely a flirt. I walk past him and open my door, gesturing him in. I take a seat on my couch, and he quickly follows.

I pass him over a cookie, and he smiles, blessing me with the sight of his dimples.

"So, you leave your room on your own for the first time and you decide you want to put your hand in the cookie jar instead of coming to see me? Oh Ayla, how you wound me."

That earns him a smile, but also a pillow to the face.

"Oh, she's feisty, I like it. But at last, I did not come here to flirt with you. I came to spend some time with you, get to know you. Maybe ask you some questions that could be difficult to answer." That statement makes me feel anxious, but answering his questions is better than boredom.

I nodded my head "yes" in agreement and he smiled at me. "Great. Let's get started. First, have I ever told you about my time in Nevada? I woke up wandering drunk down an alley after my threesome with these tiny she-wolves. Really short shifters. Probably close to your height actually….anyway, the one did this thing with her tongue and then when the other put her finger in my.... Wait, why are you so red? At first it was weird, but then I kind of liked it."

My eyes must be the size of dinner plates as I take in every single word, he just said to me. Confusion mars my features, and I find that I am shaking my head "no" involuntarily, brows furrowed. I would be at a complete loss for words if I wasn't already mute.

Then the strangest sounds echo around the room. Soft at first but growing louder by the minute. Feminine in nature and then I am shocked for a completely different reason as I soon discover the sounds were coming from me and I was in fact laughing.
