I should have listened to my instincts and skipped working out. I had so much rage and frustration in regard to the whole screwed up situation with Little Wolf's so called father and talking about my own family put me in a tailspin I needed to get control of, but I had an knew something was wrong when I couldn't reach Ayla and couldn't feel the bond, but I found out too late.

Little wolf was in a panic, hallucinating that shit stain I killed and hurting herself. I wish I could bring him back just to murder him again. If her wolf wouldn't have forced a shift, there would be no telling what would have happened. I need to spend more time teaching her pack things and wolf things since she went so long without learning. I feel like a complete failure as a mate.

I shift despite wearing my clothing and allow Ronan to spend time with Aramana before he sprints out the back door. A run will do us both good. Little Wolf needs more opportunities to run. It is freedom and she needs to experience more of it. She also needs rest after what she experienced. I'm not even sure she remembers most of it.

Our run through the forest has both of our wolves tired. They spent the run racing, hunting, and teasing each other. I find a good spot to rest and shift, desperate to see Ayla again. "Hey, you don't have to be sorry." I reach for her chin and tilt her head back up, so our gazes meet. "What emotions? I don't care what emotions of yours I feel if I am feeling them. What were you thinking about?" She stares at me for a while, appearing nervous.

“It was more wrong thoughts, like the voice of myself, but I was saying horrible things. Things I sometimes believe to be true. Or I did. I don't know how to explain it."

"What things Ayla?" I ask a little more pointed, signaling that I am not dropping this.

"Things like I am damaged. I am the reason that you have no family. That you won't want me anymore. Things like that."

I try to tamp down on the anger that wants to rise in me because my Little Wolf has these thoughts plaguing her. I could never be mad at her. "You think I won't want you anymore? Should I blame you because my sister was murdered? You couldn't be more wrong Ayla. You had nothing to do with my sister getting abducted and murdered. You and she went through the same thing, and you are both victims. Do you think I would blame you because of your father? You will be mine a lot longer than you ever were his. That makes you, my family. That makes you mine. He lost the right to be referred to as your father probably when you were little."

I grab her around the waist and pull her into me, letting her feel my erection against her stomach. "Do I need to remind you that you are mine Little Wolf? Mine forever." I say and brush my thumb over her mating mark. She shivers and moans. "Anytime you doubt that all you need to do is reach up here and stroke my mark."
