Omega Bound Chapter 273
Ayla
Eric’s footsteps echoed as he circled closer, a predatory smile spreading across his face. “Maybe now,” he murmured, voice low and taunting, “I’ll finally see what Thane thinks all the fuss is about…” His words dripped with cruel curiosity, sending a shiver down my spine as he ran his finger up and down my leg.
No. Not this time.
Never again.
For a decade, I was caged, beaten down, and broken. I know what it means to be powerless, to be used and discarded, and I will never be that version of myself again. This time, I choose to fight.
Even strapped down, even poisoned, I will burn before I let them use me again.
“Touch me and you will regret it. I will remove any part of you that comes anywhere near me, Eric. I’m not the same wolf Thane found in that kennel.” I growl as I furiously attempt to mind-link and call upon my wolf. Whatever they gassed me with has suppressed it all. I can feel Aramana in my mind, rippling, attempting to break through.
Eric let out a sharp laugh that echoed off the walls, leaning casually against the table as if my fury were amusing rather than dangerous. “You think you’re a threat?” he sneered, eyes glinting with cruel satisfaction. “As long as we keep the poison coursing through your veins, you won’t be able to connect to your wolf, won’t be able to access your powers. You’re cut off, weakened, and helpless. That’s the truth, little wolf. You’re nothing more than a broken shadow of yourself. And shadows aren’t dangerous.”
A shiver of disgust crawled over me.
The name....Thane’s name for me slipped from his lips like a knife twisting in my chest.
My stomach churned, a mix of anger and revulsion rising hot in my throat. How dare he use my name, my connection to Thane, as if it gave him any claim over me?
My fists clenched, nails biting into my palms, and every instinct screamed at me to lash out, to make him regret daring to touch what was mine.
I felt a shift. A heavy presence in the air. The atmosphere seemed to tilt and a knowing of something....changing....something powerful aligning....a missing piece put into place.
I felt a tug within and could feel the thread of my power unraveling from my pup's line. Panic flared within me as the thread of my power started....glowing.
My vision swam, and everything went white.
“Thane.....” I whispered, and then I exploded.
The harsh lights and sterile walls vanished, replaced by the familiar meadow where I had first met Aramana after being rescued. I stumbled forward, heart hammering, and saw her....my wolf, waiting, larger and brighter. Her fur gleamed a radiant white. I ran to her, every step grounding me, and the moment I touched her, a surge of strength shot through my body.
I could feel it.......my power had grown, raw and pulsing, flowing through me with a force that made my muscles hum and my senses sharpen. I was stronger, faster, and more alive. Every fiber of me screamed with the potential I now held.
“Aramana.....what’s....what’s happening?” I asked, sitting down next to her, admiring her beautiful coat.
Aramana’s gaze swept over me, as though she could see every thread of my past and future. “Ayla… I am one of the original white wolves, born of a line that stretches back thousands of years. Once, our kind led packs with strength and wisdom, guarding the shifter world from the shadows that would seek to consume it. White wolves were warriors, protectors, and keepers of balance. Powerful, revered, and feared in equal measure. But over time, many began to falter. Temptation whispered in their ears, and the very power that was meant to safeguard others became a lure for selfishness, greed, and cruelty. One by one, they succumbed, turning from their sacred duty. The fates, in their judgment, withdrew their blessings. The white wolf line weakened, births of those truly gifted became rare, and the world grew darker as fewer rose to defend it. You… we were meant to be the last, Ayla. The final white wolf.”
Her words shock me; my mouth hangs open as I process what she is saying. The last white wolf....I was to be the last but now......
“Because of the decisions of others, we ended up in a cruel life that was not meant for us, and we could do nothing about it, while I was suppressed. The fates turned their backs on us completely after your uncle succumbed to evil. They rejected the white wolf line because of the evil that contaminated it. But...” Her words hang in the air between us. The white wolf line was rejected completely, forever.
“But....” I repeat.
“But then the fates heard him. They heard and saw Thane on his knees in the rain, full of rage, screaming into the night sky, a raw, trembling vow to find every soul responsible, to stop at nothing to purge the evil that had stolen her from him. He swore he would right every wrong, avenge every life touched by that darkness. And then… he begged the fates themselves, pleading for the chance to turn his grief and fury into a weapon to protect what remained.”
The depth of his grief, the fury that had driven him to the edge of despair, made the bond between us hum hotter under my skin. A mix of sorrow and admiration twisted in my chest. I felt the full weight of the man Thane was. The fire, the pain, the unwavering devotion, and a fierce, protective pride flared inside.
“The fates looked upon you...they saw you, disconnected from me and powerless, but still fighting to get out, to be free of the evil. Standing strong despite the circumstances.” Her words cause guilt to flare within me. The last several years of my captivity, I was not standing strong. I just wanted it to be over.
“I gave up. I stopped trying to get free.” I squeeze my eyes at the painful memories that want to assault me. The times I escaped only to be found and beaten and brought back.
“Yes, but not before the fates intervened. They looked upon Thane with pity and pride. They looked upon you and they saw bravery. They saw a fighter. They entwined your destinies, fating you to each other, knowing that your gift and his heart...his authority would turn the tide against the evil consuming the world.”
“The fates chose us to rid the world of evil...” The revelation causes my breath to hitch; the weight of the truth, the pressure of it sits heavy.
“Yes, and for us to be whole and fight for the good of our kind, Thane had to be whole as well. He had to take his seat as the Alpha of Alphas. You are no longer incomplete. You are no longer a pup waiting to grow into themselves, you are now who you were destined to be...we are now as strong as we were intended to be. We are now whole. By taking his crown, his mate shares the same authority.....we share the same authority and with it a change in our gifting.... ”
“Thane took his seat of authority...” I whisper, the realization that the change I felt was him.
“He did, and now he fights for us. They all fight for us. Are you ready to step into your true seat of authority?
Ayla? Are you ready to prove to the fates that we will fight for the good of our kind?”
“I’m ready....”
