Omega Bound Chapter 108

Ayla

I have been preoccupied today. Just about anything that needs to be done around the house, I have accomplished. Pretty easy cleaning up when we were gone so long though. I enjoy cleaning up and taking care of the house. I think I like it so much because I am grateful to have a home to straighten. My life has taken a dramatic turn of events for the good, and I am eager to make everyday a day I live to its fullest. Even if all I get done is cleaning my house.

At least I am living.

There were too many days where I didn't want to.

My phone rang and it was Monica explaining that she had the day off and wanted to do something. I miss my friend, and I miss working in the kitchens, baking. I really need to discuss some things and get another perspective that isn't from my mate. Mainly my future in general. Girl time and a she-wolf perspective from someone that is acquainted with the pack would be helpful. I agreed to spend time with her and wait for her arrival.

"Wow! This place is beautiful Ayla!" Monica exclaims upon her arrival.

"Yes, it is. I love everything about it out here. Thane picked the perfect place for us. I don't think he could ever get me to leave." I yawned.

"Still tired from your trip?"

"Yeah. Must be. It was long, but worth it."

"I heard you guys rescued some more shifters. That must feel good, to pull others out?" "Yeah, it does, but it was terrifying. Your adrenaline is coursing the whole time and there is pretty much non-stop fighting and chaos. I won't be upset if I don't go again. However, I would go on another raid and would probably insist on it, but the whole ordeal was scary." She nods in agreement as we sit on the couch looking out the windows. The bay windows are beautiful, and it is the perfect sitting place.

"Do you want to do anything?" Monica asks, and I think for a minute.

"You know, one thing I have been wanting to do and have never been able to is something you could actually help me with." I say and she sits up eager.

“I want to drive."

"You want to drive? You mean, you want me to teach you how to drive?"

"Yeah. I haven't before and I want to learn, but if you don't want to teach me, I can ask Thane or if you want to do something else?" I ask.

“Sure, I will try to teach you. I mean it can’t be that hard and I have never been able to tell anyone that I have taught the Luna something before. Sure, let's do it. It will be fun!”

It was, in fact, not fun. I said, “I’m sorry.” 457 times as I start too aggressively or stop too violently. Or maybe it was the other way around. “I’m sorry.” I cringe as I hit the brakes too hard, lunging us both forward, locking the seatbelts and nearly choking us out. Make that 458.

“Maybe you need to sit on something. You could probably see the road better. That is probably what is wrong. You just need to be a little higher up.” Monica winces as she tries to make excuses for my lack of driving ability.

“I can see over the wheel. It is just difficult.”

“Well, maybe you just need to relax more. Maybe you are too nervous about it.”

“I could be. Thane mind-linked asking what I was doing and when I told him, he nearly blew his top. He apparently thinks I am making too many unsafe judgments calls today.”

“What were the other unsafe calls you made?”

“Apparently my continuation of driving lessons? I don’t know, he is all worked up about it.” “Maybe we should stop for the day. I don’t want to be on my Alpha’s bad side.”

“We can. I don’t think I am getting any better right now, and I am really hungry.”

We head into the cabin, and I remove two boxes of food from the refrigerator. "I think I would really like to take cooking lessons. I want to be able to make good meals for Thane. Maybe surprise him with my awesome cooking abilities."

"Oh, maybe we can get one of the cooks at the pack house to help. I can make a few things, but I am not 'impress an Alpha with my cooking' good." Monica air quotes and I giggle.

"He is just like any other shifter. If you can cook for yourself, you could cook for your Alpha." "Oh no. No, no, no. It is different when cooking for someone of importance. I think I would panic and burn the water."

"Burn water huh? Maybe I better get help from someone else." Monica nods in agreement, and I decide I will talk to Thane about me returning to the kitchens again.

I take out the ribs and fried potatoes from the microwave and start shoveling food into my mouth. Monica watches me in amusement as I open the refrigerator and dig out more food. "Is all of that for you? There is no way I will be able to help you get through all of this plus desert." I yawn again before reminding myself that I should chew my food for this bite.

"I can't help it. I am really hungry. I think I will be taking a long nap too after stuffing my face. I need to catch up on sleep I missed out on apparently."

We finish eating and cleaning up the kitchen before taking a seat in the living room. I straighten a few pillows on the couch, but the arrangement of them seems off. I remove a few from the line up and rearrange some others, but now they feel too lumpy. I remove a few larger ones, then replace them with a few smaller ones, but that makes the couch look uninviting.

I can't have the couch look uninviting, but right now I don't have a conclusive answer to why. It just isn't right. I throw all the pillows off the couch in a clear temper tantrum before attempting to pile them back on in an order that is more appropriate. Since when do I care about the couch pillows so much? I guess as of today.

Laughter breaks me out of my angry pillow rummaging and my eyes meet an amused Monica just patiently watching me fight with the pillows. "Is this some of that omega behavior your lot is known for?" She asks, and I chuckle.

"Yeah, apparently we really care about nesting when we are going into heat or when we are pregnant. Do other shifters nest like this?" I ask, hoping she says yes, she does so I feel less crazy.

"No. Did you have your heat already?"

"I did. I thought I wouldn't be able to manage it after...well you know, everything, but I did. I will spare you the details, but it went well." I threw a few more pillows around before I lifted my gaze slowly up to hers again. We are both looking at each other quietly. Our brains seem to catch on to the elephant in the room we didn't realize was there at the same time.

"OH, MY FATES AYLA!" Monica exclaims jumping off the couch as my mouth hangs open in disbelief and shock.

"I'M PREGNANT!" I say jumping off the couch. Complete shock overtakes me, and I think I forget how to breathe.
