"Honey, we're home." I open the door and motion for fireball enter. "Who are you talking to?" she asks me in a tone that suggests she is still mad at me. I doubt after she gets the grand tour that her anger will improve. Probably the opposite.

"Nobody. It's an expression. Something shifters say for funzies. Something you CLEARLY don't know anything about." I just can't help but push those buttons. "Piss off Cyrus."

"I have such a sweet talking mate. I am truly blessed by the fates." She gives me the finger as I shut the door and throw my bag down on the floor.

"This is it?" she looks around, eyebrows to her hair line.

"Yeah. What did you expect? A mansion?" I ask while grabbing a beer for the fridge. I have a feeling I am going to need about 50 of them suckers before the nights over.

"No. I expected a house or an apartment." She crosses her arms over her chest, pushing her girls up I would do terrible things to see.

"This is an apartment. It's called a studio apartment." I explain, drinking down half my bottle.

"It's only one room!" Fireball yells at me throwing her arms around in the air.

"Yeah. That's why it's called a studio apartment and it is more than one room. There is two. Obviously I have a bathroom."

"Oh, well yipee! And you have ONE BED in the living room. You have a futon. You have one bed and a futon. There isn't even a kitchen table." She points around, still yelling.

"It's just me here. Or was just me. What do you want to live in? Apartment? House? You tell me Fireball."

Fireball walks over to the fridge and flings the door open, grabbing herself a beer as well. "There's no food in here!" she proclaims as she slams the door shut.

"That's because I'm never here." I probably shouldn't have said that.

"What the hell is this?" She rips a piece of paper off of the freezer door. Oh shit. "The reason you're never here?" she asks and there is no way I am getting out of this easily.

"What the hell is an orgy calender Cyrus? What are all these dates and times on here? Hmmmm?"

"That's old. I haven't been here to throw it out. I've been with you, getting yelled at every night."

"I bet Candy and Sandy are on here aren't they?" She crumples the paper up and throws it at me.

"Mindy and Mandy."

"What did you say?" she asks, eerily calm which is terrifying.

"Ahhhh motherfu....." I grab my forehead where fireball just bounced her beer bottle off of.

"You can't throw shit at me with your speed whatever you call it! I CAN'T DUCK THAT FAST!." I can feel the goose-egg forming on my forehead. Thankfully, I think I can cover it with my curls. What am I saying? I am mated now. Who gives a shit if it sticks out.

"THAT'S THE POINT!" Fireball screams at me. "I'M NOT SHARING THE BED WITH YOU EITHER!"

"WELL I'M NOT SLEEPING ON THE DAMN FLOOR!" I yell back.

"YOU CAN SLEEP ON THAT STUPID FUTON." she points at it in disgusts.

"I'M TOO DAMN BIG! YOU SLEEP ON IT." I yell probably louder than I should which has Artemis raging in my head because he isn't on my side apparently.

"IT'S TOO BIG FOR ME TOO. I'M NOT A SHORT SHE-WOLF AND IT ONLY HAS TWO CUSIONS."

"Then...I suggest that you share the bed with me because we're both grounded here." I walk over and grab the broom to clean up the broken glass from the damn bottle that bounced off of me.

"If you're going to keep throwing stuff at me, I am going to bubble wrap everything in the apartment Fireball."

"I'm not staying here." she says as she turns and heads toward the door.

"You're not leaving." I jump in front of her and block the door. Fireball looks up at my goose egg and then back to my face.

"Yes, I am. You can't stop me. Thanks for the car, but I am out of here." she attempts to push me out of the way but I don't move. She may be fast, but I am a lot bigger and a lot stronger.

"I said you are not leaving. Where are you going to go anyway? You can't go back from wherever the hell you came from. They sold you off remember?" Pain flashes in her eyes and she takes a step back. "Wait...no. I shouldn't have said that."

"No, I get it. Nobody wants me right? I have no home. Everyone I ever loved either sat by and did nothing or was in on it. They don't want me right?"

"Raven...no. Fuck them. That's not what I meant. I just mean.."

"You just mean what Cyrus? What I just got done saying? EVERYTHING I JUST SAID IS TRUE. I WAS SOLD OFF BECAUSE I WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH. NOT SHE-WOLF ENOUGH. TOO HARD TO HANDLE. TOO STRONG. YOU KNOW HOW I GOT FAST CYRUS? I WAS EXPERIMENTED ON. WHILE OTHERS WERE GETTING RAPED I WAS GETTING POKED AND PRODDED AND TORTURED BECAUSE I AM A FEMALE ALPHA. YOU THINK IT'S LOST ON ME WHAT AYLA WENT THROUGH? WHAT THE OTHER SHE-WOLVES WENT THROUGH? I WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND COULDN'T! DO YOU KNOW THAT GUILT? DO YOU KNOW THAT PAIN? YOU WANT TO KNOW PAIN. TRY FEELING THE MATING BOND SPLINTER IN YOUR CHEST, BURNING AS EACH PIECE FRAYS BEFORE IT SNAPS. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE DYING CYRUS. DYING! IT HURT SO DAMN BAD I COULDN'T STAND. THE PACK STOOD BY AND DID NOTHING AS I BROKE INTO A MILLION PIECES IN FRONT OF THEM AND WAS HAULED OFF, AWAY FROM EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE I EVER LOVED. THE ONE SHIFTER I LOVED MY WHOLE LIFE REJECTED ME AND ALLOWED HIS FATHER TO SELL ME OFF TO DIE." Fireball yells at me, barely able to breathe, her lips trembling.

Tears well up her eyes and she tries to not let them fall. Too much pride. I don't understand why the mate bond affects Raven as much as me but maybe she has so many other feelings she hasn't dealt with that it's all swirling around inside of her. One horrible shit storm is about to erupt.

"Aren't you going to say something?" she says through gritted teeth, fighting back a sob.

"No." I say quietly because I don't know what to say. All I want to do is avenge her.

"No? Nothing? Not going to tell me how much of a burden I am as a mate? Just let me go. You know you are planning your exit anyway. You are a second chance mate that got stuck with a broken head case. We both should be cursing the fates."

"I could. I could curse the fates for not choosing me first. If they had chosen me first you could have been spared the pain and betrayal somehow. Or I could wallow in self-pity because I wasn't chosen first."
