Ayla

The tour of the daycare was pretty simple and straight forward. They are well managed, and the Luna's responsibilities seem to be involvement in any festivities and ceremonies they plan, equipment, and budget approval. It seems straight forward. The children were having a great time and threw us a mini welcoming party. I lost count at the number of times I was asked by a young pup to watch them do something. The whole experience made me more excited to welcome our own pup and gave me quite a few ideas on things we needed at our home for them.

I was amazed by the size of the daycare and the number of pups here, but the Midnight Pack is different compared to others and one of those differences is size. Most packs are larger, but Midnight would be a city compared to them. A lot of packs are small, no town or business within. They hunt and rely on the land, and trade.

Midnight pack is thriving, especially the town and the businesses within. It gives me a new level of respect for Thane to inherit the pack, and it prospers so well. It also has me encouraged to think what he could do to unite the packs if he were to take his rightful seat as the Alpha of Alphas.

The daycare was a nice distraction for what is coming up next. I spent the morning dreading walking into the heat clinic. Just hearing the words brings back memories and thoughts I don't want. That is why I am standing in front of the brick building staring at it like it will disappear if I wait long enough.

"Are we going to go into the building?" Monica asks. I wish I had an answer for her.

"Yes." I say and make no attempt to move.

"They aren't the same Ayla." Raven speaks to me, and I look at her confused. I don't recall telling anyone about them other than Thane, and maybe Eric. I am sure Cyrus knows but I doubt Raven and Cyrus have sat down and conversed about anything more that their bond and rightfully so.

"I overheard them talking about them when I was taken. They aren't the same." I take a deep breath and let it out, knowing she is right. I turn toward the building and swallow hard before willing my feet to put one in front of the other.

Upon entering the one level brick building, you have to wait until the doors can be unlocked to permit entry. Makes sense to keep unmated shifters out in case they couldn't control themselves. It also makes it feel like a prison.

The environment smells sterile, and everything is white on white like a medical clinic. The similarities between this clinic and the heat clinic I was subjected to start to form and I can feel my anxiety rise.

"Greetings Luna Knight, I am Leo Snowgreene, the clinic manager here. It is a pleasure to meet you and your group. Please, follow me through these doors and we can take a quick tour and then we can use a conference room to discuss whatever questions you have. He moves toward a set of now open doors, and we enter.

Right away you are hit with an antiseptic smell that is really unpleasant. I understand that you can't have the entire building smell like a brothel, but my omega wolf hates this smell. I know there aren't a lot of omegas in packs, but I do know that this pack has a few and I can't think that if they ever had to be here, that they would be happy.

We stop at one room and as I guessed, there is a very basic bed and everything is white from the walls to the bedding. There is also a bathroom and a bedside table. That's it. The three of us quickly glance around before stepping out. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. I can feel my pulse pick up, but I work on relaxing myself however I can feel the weight start pressing on my chest and the nausea sit in. Before I can think of much else, I let out a cry of pain realizing that Raven just pinched my arm, hard.

"What are you doing?" I ask rubbing my arm and trying to follow this guy to the next area. "You were spiraling. Now you're not." she huffs out like pinching me is an inconvenience. "She's right, you were breathing pretty hard." Monica chimes in with support.

I guess I feel less like freaking out and more like my arms hurt. "Okay, yes...I was. Thank you, but next time can you not twist my baby skin?" I plead and Raven rolls her eyes at me.

We enter the room, and I sit down the notebook and start writing down word prompts. I have a lot of issues currently, I just don't know what to do about them. "Luna Knight, do you have any questions you would like to ask, or would you like me to tell you things about the clinic first?" Mr. Snowgreene asks.

"Yes, I do have questions. Is there a reason that everything in this building seems like a hospital. Everything is white on white with more white."

"I would think you would be the last one to complain." he motions toward me I guess pointing out that I have white hair and white skin and laughs a little before becoming quiet.

"Sorry. Yes, well this is a clinic. We try to keep everything easy to clean and sterilize." "I understand that, but there is no comfort here. Nothing is welcoming or comforting. Heats are intense and exhausting. I think comfort should be a priority." I understand both sides of this discussion, which makes having it more difficult. There isn't a clear path either way.

"Yes, comfort is important, but there is also the problem of keeping attachments from forming. If the atmosphere is more clinical based, there is less of a chance that a servicing alpha and she-wolf in heat don't form a bond. We don't want to promote marking outside of the mate bond. Also, a she-wolf may bag for a mark, regret it after her heat, a clinical environment helps prevent that."

"Have you ever had anyone bond here during their heat?" I ask, curious as to the answer and also if I should mention Cyrus' role here to Raven.

"We have not had any bonds here. The clinic has been around many years. We keep ten alphas on hand with shifts for scheduled and unexpected heats. Well, I am down to nine now that Cyrus quit."
