Thane

I woke up early with Little Wolf lying across my chest. Her white hair sprawled out over me in a halo. I was up most of the night mind-link working. Coordinating a meeting between four other alphas to discuss coming together in an alliance against the ring.

I don't know how far Mikhails reach, or resources go. I don't know how large an army he has. It is better to get as many alphas as possible together to end this as soon as possible, but we must meet quietly. I hate that I have to turn around and leave Ayla right after returning, but it is necessary.

I yawn and try to creep out from under Ayla without waking her. Her murmuring and groaning reflect that I failed to do that. I look down at Little Wolf and get a feeling that something is off. Something is different, but I am not sure what yet. I go to the bathroom and on the way back, everything clicks. I see Ayla straightening her nest and fluffing pillows. Fully emersed in her omega instincts.

I catch a new scent in my nostrils. Earthy lavender. The blending of our two scents. Little Wolf is pregnant with my pup. It is extremely rare that a pregnancy occurs from the first heat, but clearly possible. I swell with pride and euphoria. I am excited about this. I just hope that Ayla feels the same.

I decided that I will call an emergency meeting now with Cyrus and then reach out to all the Alpha's again via phone on figuring out how to proceed and whether to meet. The idea of meeting and leaving Little Wolf sets heavy in my stomach. I need to meet with Cyrus now.

I will meet Cyrus before telling Little Wolf. I want to give her the opportunity to figure it out and tell me herself. I don't want to take an opportunity from her. If she hasn't figured it out by the time I return, then I will need to tell her.

It sets my wolf on edge, the increased need to protect his mate. I will probably be more of a dick according to Cyrus. At least now he has Raven to keep him busy. "Good morning Little Wolf." I say, pulling her into me and kissing her on top of her head. She leans in and kisses my neck.

"Good morning. You going to the pack early?" She asks, still tired and yawning herself.

"Yes. I need to meet with Cyrus about something and make a few phone calls. I will let you know when I will be back, and I will fill you in. I kiss her again before pulling away and changing for the day.

I drove into the office to find Cyrus waiting for me. "How did you get in here already?" I ask confused.

"Your magic key ring remember?" That's right. I loaned Cyrus my keys so he could move in next to Raven.

"How did last night go."

"Oh, just peachy. She wouldn't answer any of my questions and we fought all night. I didn't get any damn sleep because I had to be on high alert of her fleeing, which she tried multiple times. The only thing she came forward about was that I am her second chance mate. Given her tone, I think she was in love with the asshole and now her heart is broken, and I am here, confusing her." He lets out with a sigh.

Damn a second chance mate. Not that it should matter to Cyrus, but if she loved the guy that would be hard to deal with. Rejection is supposed to hurt terribly, from what I have heard. "You trust her to be there when you get back?" I ask. The likely answer should be no. I don't trust her to be where she is supposed to be right at this minute.

"Yeah, I do. Get this. I told her I was leaving for these meetings for a few days, and she went off the rails. Throwing it in my face that I was hammering her to talk to me and then turn around and take off. Had the nerve to tell me I couldn't go."

"And you said?"

"I said that if she wanted me to stick around then she should have answered my questions. Then she told me I wasn't leaving. I told her I was. She said okay, and that she wouldn't run because she had nowhere else to go. That was that."

I hear a commotion outside and stand from my desk and look out the window down below. "How did Raven seem to you when you decided that was that?" I ask.

"She was quiet. Calmed down. Why?" I decided not to answer him right away, waiting to see how the vision below me plays out.

"We need to talk about leaving and if we should risk it right now." I explain to him.

"Why? I thought we decided that we need to bring other packs in on this ASAP?" Cyrus asked confused. I find myself barely registering him as I watch amused out of my office window.

"Ayla is carrying my pup, Cyrus. If I leave, I could leave her in danger when we don't know who is after me from within and where her father is. If the other Alphas finds out about her carrying my pup and that she is gifted, she is a target. I don't know if it is wise if we leave yet. I don't know how much to tell the other Alphas. That is what I want to figure out, but right now you have a problem to straighten out."

"What problem is that?" He asks.

"Raven just set your car on fire." I inform him. Amused at the flames flickering over his SUV below. This should be a problem, and I shouldn't be enjoying it, but here I am, enjoying it.

"What?" He yells bolting up to the window next to me. "What the hell?" Cyrus yells drawing her attention up to my office window. Raven smiles hugely when she sees Cyrus, a dark gleam in her eye.

"Is she crazy? Lighting my car on fire? She didn't want me around; it would be a favor to her anyway! I mean...wait...wait...I'm the crazy one. I am...Me...I...AM I THE CRAZY ONE!” he says in disbelief, and I laugh.

“What if...shit...AM I THE SANE ONE IN THIS FREAKING MATE BOND THANE!" Cyrus yells out, just beside himself, running his fingers through his hair. "I can't be the sane one.... this is just.... oh, her ass is in trouble. Nobody makes me the sane one," and just like that, Cyrus turns, leaves my office and minutes later can be seen storming into the parking lot.
