Omega Bound Chapter 278
Damon
It had been nearly three days now, and Amani was still in heat. Almost three days of her slinking around like temptation given a body, three days of me trying to keep my sanity intact.
Hopefully, with getting the first heat under my belt, it will feel easier the next time around.
If she isn’t pregnant with our pup.
I dragged a hand down my face and let out a groan. Across the room, my mate perched on top of a cabinet, her long braids spilling over one shoulder, her gold eyes locked on me like a predator watching prey. She licked her bottom lip slowly, deliberately, before crouching low, ready to pounce.
She’s a wolf, not a mountain lion, but she sure acts like one in her heat.
“Amani,” I warned, though the word held no real heat. My voice came out more like a plea.
She only grinned. And then she launched herself.
I barely managed to catch her, staggering back a step as her arms and legs wrapped around me with the strength of a she-wolf in full desire. “Damon,” she purred against my throat, nipping the skin just below my jaw. “You’re warm. You smell good. You’re mine.”
“Yes, love, I know,” I muttered, shifting her weight so I didn’t drop her. My body was sore in ways I didn’t know a body could be sore, and yet my heart still flipped at the feel of her pressed against me. That was the thing about Amani, she could exhaust me down to the marrow, and I’d still thank the fates she was mine.
Still, the pack didn’t stop functioning just because my mate was in heat. Not when we are the first and last line of defense of protection for the pack while everybody is gone on the rescue mission.
*“Gamma.”*
The voice slipped through the mind-link, tense and sharp. My wolf bristled instantly. *“Report,”* I answered.
*“They tried the west border again. Sonne Pack wolves. Ten of them this time. We cut them down, but they weren’t hiding it. They wanted us to see. To know they’re coming.”*
My jaw locked. They aren’t going to stop. Not while Thane and the others were away handling the Ring. We were vulnerable, sitting ducks in our own city. They know it. They are just testing the borders to see how many guards are left here.
*“Casualties?”* I growled as Amani licked up the side of my face.
*“None of ours. All theirs.”*
A small measure of relief bled through me. *“Good. Double the watch. Rotate fresh men to the western ridge every two hours. I know they’re tired, but they’ll need to stay alert.”*
*“Yes, Gamma.”* The link went quiet, but my wolf’s growl didn’t fade.
The truth was, we were armed and ready. Just about every wolf left behind had steel at their hip for the fight we all knew was coming. My people were prepared, but none of us wanted that battle spilling inside the city. Not where pups slept in their beds and families gathered in their kitchens.
The way Amani rubs herself against me, the way she moves, could be a weapon if she ever trained it fully. My hands went to her hips, steadying her. Even as I did, I noticed small quirks she exhibits during her heat. How she pressed a little harder when she thought I wasn’t looking, the way her eyes sharpened and darted to the edges of a counter or shelf when she was plotting her next climb, the little soft noise she made just before leaping from one surface to another, and how her hands and fingers twitched almost independently, betraying the constant need in her body.
I adjusted her again, and my wolf rumbled low. Instinct demanded that I knot her, but my human brain reminded me that I had a city to defend and I needed to figure out how to do both.
The mind-link flared again. *“Gamma.”* Jarek’s voice cut through, *“Northern ridge. Scouts are moving again. No engagement, but they’re probing. Orders?”*
*“Hold the lines. No engagement unless they cross the boundary. Keep me informed.”*
*“Understood.”*
Her body twisted and shifted instinctively, grinding herself on me, trying to get the friction she needed. She let out little growls before every move, almost a signal I could anticipate, and I fought not to smile at the absurdity of the situation. Gamma of the strongest pack, being completely exhausted by his cupboard-slinking mate.
I guided her carefully onto the bed; the scent of her desire filled the room, thick and wild.
I climbed into bed, but before I could even get a hold of her, she grabbed a hold of me, rolling us quickly so she was straddling me. Her eyes, sharp and glimmering gold, darted to the edges of the bed and furniture, always calculating, even in this intimate moment. A little moan escaped her lips as she leaned forward, one hand bracing herself on my chest, the other trailing lightly along my shoulder, her fingers twitching in subtle anticipation.
My hands settled on her hips, steadying her, allowing her to ride the need that had consumed her for days. She was relentless, instinct-driven, entirely consumed by heat, and yet there were small quirks that made me grin despite the tension in my muscles. The tiny arch of her back before each motion, the flash of her eyes, the soft noises she made. I loved studying everything about her. Committing everything to memory.
“Every motion, every sound… I’m memorizing it all. You’re doing so good, precious.” I praise her, enjoying the moans she makes when she hears it.
And then the mind-link flared, cutting sharply through the haze. *“Gamma.”* Jarek’s voice was tense, clipped. "*Triad has submitted an Alpha challenge. They want to fight Thane for the title. They’re expecting a response. Orders?”*
My body tensed, hips shifting slightly as she rode instinctively. My wolf snapped, demanding action, but I couldn’t leave her.
I exhaled, focusing on the alerts and using my hands to help move her hips. *“Hold.”* I responded through the mind-link, *“Do not engage. Maintain positions. Stay ready. Alpha will respond. Keep me informed.”*
*“Understood.”*
She slammed herself down onto my dick as if she was falling down her pole, in instinctual rhythm. Her eyes sparkled, and my wolf growled at the restraint, frustrated at being denied his need to take over. I had to stay alert, my mind running rotations and contingencies while my body burned with desire.
Another mind-link pinged, urgent. Gamma. Scouts report formation at the quarry. “They’re waiting for a response. Looks like the Triad Group is holding a meeting out there.”
I exhaled through my teeth, feeling her press harder, her heat-driven insistence demanding every ounce of my attention. My mind is split between the pack and her. My wolf rumbled, frustrated, clawing at me within.
“You’re so strong… so beautiful.”
“Look at you… owning every inch of this.”
“Every motion of yours is perfect.”
“You’re amazing… don’t stop now.”
“You were made for this… for us.”
I felt her respond to my words, a shiver running through her as her movements grew faster, more insistent. “That’s it… just like that,” I said, pressing closer, letting my hands guide her hips, matching her rhythm, urging her onward.
Her eyes fluttered closed, lips parting in a soft exhale, and I could tell my encouragement was pushing her higher.
I matched her pace, feeling every tremor of her body, until we both finished together, gasping and trembling, utterly undone, while I thrust my knot into it, causing her to cry out in pleasure, riding it out until she collapses on top of me and I answer the next mind-link.
