Thane

We sit in my office, finishing the last-minute details of the meetings we are leaving for. The sadness I felt through the bond when I explained to Little Wolf that I was leaving was thick and palpable. I am within seconds of abandoning the whole notion of leaving. She understands and is supportive. Ayla knows I would rather cut my arm off then have to leave her. I didn't get to hold her enough this morning. I gave her as many orgasms as I could this morning, hoping to keep her sated while I am gone.

My wolf is a maniac within me right now with leaving his pregnant mate, but it has to be done. We need to work out alliances and I need to sneak as many provisions as possible into our agreement that protect little wolf and my pup without making it known why. If one of these alphas or their pack mates turn on my family, I want it known that they were protected by an agreement first. If they continue to defy it, they will be breaking it. Granting us whatever provisions that looks like in the agreement. I just have to make sure I cover every base.

I am taking Cyrus and Damon. Raven was murderous when she was told she wasn't coming, but if she is as highly trained as I think she is, I want her here. I want as much protection around Little Wolf that I can get and if she and Cyrus bond, I am going to ask her to be Ayla's personal guard. Plus, it would do her some good to bond with Little Wolf and vice versa. They can trauma bond and we will all be a little messed up group of traumatized shifters trying to make a life for themselves.

"Did you tell Ayla to use her mind control powers to get Raven to like me while we are gone?" Cyrus asks while we take the elevator down to the SUV.

"For the last time, she does not have mind control powers."

"Yeah well, she already has two. What's one more?"

I turn to him confused "Two? What is the other one?"

He laughs, "Putting up with your grumpy ass." he says before stepping out of the elevator. Should have seen that one coming.

Raven is standing next to the SUV, but it isn't on fire. So, I see that as a win. I mind-link Cyrus that I am getting into the SUV so I can check on my own mate and give them privacy. He sounds relieved, but also nervous. I know the feeling. I don't understand how anyone could reject a mate. I could wear mine and I would still feel like she wasn't close enough.

*"You okay baby? I miss you already and I am still in the parking lot.*

*"Yeah, just tired. I am going to nap in my nest.*

*"I took my shorts from this morning and threw them in there for you.*

*"I am not in heat silly."*

*"I know, but they smell like me regardless, it will help keep my scent in there."*

*"I want you to come back soon."*

*"Only two days. Maybe three. Promise."*

*"What happens if it turns into more? What do I get?"*

*"A really, really, thorough, heartfelt, all night long apology."* I groan as I rearrange my dick in my pants.

"All night?"

*"All night. I am about ready to finish in my pants thinking about it which will make for a really awkward car ride."*

*"Please don't. I don't want you to traumatize Cyrus."*

*"Traumatize Cyrus? Do you hear yourself? Oh, the stories I will tell you when I return."*

*"We can still mind-link each other."* I do hope she is suggesting what I think she is suggesting.

*"Oh yes.....we definitely will be doing that."*

I am pulled out of my mind-link soon to turn naughty mind-link sesh by an inpatient Cyrus, glaring at me and yelling my name. "What is your problem?" I growl back.

"Me? I have been waiting on you to answer while you have mind-link sex, which I remind you that I can't do yet and I am feeling testy about it.

"Sorry. I didn't hear you."

"No shit. Can we go now?"

"Yes. Don't forget to take your medicine." He turns to me with a confused expression on his face.

"What medicine?"

"Whatever you need to take to get over this pissy mood of yours." I growl out.

"That would be a mating bond Thane. I am in need of a mating bond." he sighs.

"That will come. Be patient. She's still here, isn't she?" I remind him.

Cyrus has abandonment issues. He has his own trauma to deal with again since that mate bond flared and he remains unbonded. His wolf riding him and him dealing with moments of fear that he will lose his mate. Our SUV pulls out with Damon's following behind. I search the bond and have a sense that Little Wolf is sleeping.

"Did you find anything out about her background?"

"Yeah, that she was rejected by the shifter she loved. Good enough for sex but not good enough for a mate. He rejected her then selected a chosen mate. Get this, she was mated to the Alpha of the pack or the next in line. They grew up together. He banished her to the ring like a month ago. His Luna. Just threw her away. I am mated to a Luna...me...shit is crazy."

I ponder all of that for a moment. It is highly possible the fates aligned this. Knowing that would say a lot about her character and strengths, integrity. What it is supposed to be anyway. Everyone can go astray. Cyrus wouldn't allow that to happen though.

"That certainly changes some of my thoughts?" I say, coming to a conclusion.

"Thoughts on what?" he asks, confused.

"Taking the Alpha of Alphas title."

"Do you actually think you will need to though? That you couldn't keep Ayla safe without that title?"

"I have a feeling, for some reason, that I may not be able to Cyrus. I feel a shift of some sort coming. I just don't know exactly what yet."

"That is depressing as shit."

"Yeah. Not, ominous at all."

The drive goes on a few more hours and a few more stops before we reach our overnight destination. A cabin set up for us by Alpha Greene. We lug all of our gear inside and pick our rooms. I am quick to shower and crawl into bed, the sleep I want is eluding me though as I lay here, still wide awake. Not having Little Wolf'ss warm little body next to mine is torture. My wolf is restless. This was a terrible idea. I rub my chest as the bond aches. I can't take another not of this. If little wolf is experiencing the same, I won't ever do this again. I don't know if it is because we are newly bonded or if it is because she is carrying my pup or both, but I can't think straight. I am miserable. I can't wait to go home.
