Omega Bound Chapter 282
Thane
I look out over my pack. Every wolf, every fighter, every family is gathered.
I raise my voice so it carries to every corner of the field.
“You stood with me in a war that should have broken us. Instead, you broke the enemy. Every one of you fought like hell, and I could not be prouder of the blood you spilled. You showed the world that our pack does not bow. And we did not do it alone. Clarke’s people fought beside us as brothers and sisters. Their blood is on the ground too, and I honor it as if it were our own.”
I let my gaze sweep over the crowd. My chest is tight, but I force the words steady.
“I told you before that I refused the title. That being Alpha of Alphas was nothing I wanted. But out there, in the dirt and the fire, I accepted it. And it changed me. Not for pride. Not for power. But because our world needs it. Because you need it.”
The crowd stirs, a ripple of energy moving through them, but I hold up a hand.
“And let it be known that the battle could not have been won without our Luna. Your Luna fought as fiercely as any warrior here. When the tide threatened to drown us, she shattered the enemy. She finished what we started. Never forget that it was her strength, her courage, that carried us across the line.” The crowd erupts in cheers, howls, and raised voices. Ayla drops her gaze, cheeks flushing, but I catch the way her fingers tighten on her belly. Pride. Fear. Determination. All of it.
I draw a breath, the next words sharp as a blade in my throat.
“You all believed the ring leader was an Alpha named Mikhail. You were wrong. It was his twin, Nikolai. The monster we faced was not a stranger, but your Luna’s blood masquerading as something else.”
A hush falls, but I don’t give them time to break it.
“Mikhail is not just another survivor we pulled from that compound. He is blood to your Luna. He is her father.” Gasps break, some disbelieving. I nod once, confirming it. “Ayla is his daughter. And like her, he is a Fates-gifted white wolf. His power runs in her veins. The very power that turned the tide of battle when all else would have failed.”
I let my gaze sweep the faces before me, holding them in silence before I go on.
“For too long, Ayla’s gift has been kept hidden. I forced that secrecy on her, to keep her safe from the ones who would have hunted her down for it. But the secret is out now. Your Luna carries a gift that can be as lethal as it is protective, and she plans on using it. Not for herself. Not for me. But for all of you. For every wolf in this pack. For the safety of the shifter world.”
The murmurs ripple again, but this time I hear no fear. Only awe.
“And her father,” I continue, my tone sharpening, “is not a fraud. Not a thief. Not a parasite stealing from others like Eric did. Mikhail’s power is pure. He is a true healer. His gift is his own. When his strength returns, he will be offered the position of leading our clinic. And I expect....no, I demand, that he be welcomed. He is one of us now. You will not question him. You will not cast suspicion on him. He is a wolf who endured over a decade of torment, stripped of his name and power, only to rise again and heal others with what was rightfully his.”
I step forward, my aura pressing heavy, undeniable. “Ayla’s bloodline is proof that the Fates themselves still intervene in our world. Remember that when you see her power. Remember that when Mikhail stands among you. These gifts were never meant to be stolen, never meant to be twisted. They were meant to protect. And now they will.”
“And Eric.” My voice hardens. “Our healer. The man you trusted with your wounds, your children, your lives. He was no healer at all. Every touch, every mending, was stolen power from Mikhail. Eric was never ours....he was part of the ring, part of their agenda. His father, whose name I will not give breath to, sold my sister into that nightmare. That rot runs deep. Eric is either dead or hiding, and until I see his corpse, I’ll treat him as missing and dangerous.”
The crowd erupts again. Shouts. Snarls. A woman cries out, “I trusted him with my son!” Rage ripples, hot and violent. I hold up both hands, voice booming over the chaos. “He betrayed us. He betrayed you. And we will not forget it.
I let the anger curl, “Next is Stevens. His pack has halted their mobilization. They know I’ve come back. They know I’ll come for them. And we will. None of them will survive to harm us, or anyone, again.” With Raven’s father out of the picture, and when I take out Stevens, the next in line, there would be his wife, who I will kill for turning a blind eye, and Raven’s mother, who Cyrus has already marked. That will leave their Alpha seat open, and I will personally have a hand in filling it and all the other seats of any Alpha that dares support the ring.
“And I need to speak of Raven.” My chest tightens, but I let my voice carry. “She tracked the helicopter that carried our Luna. She let herself be taken. She risked her life so we could find Ayla. So we could find the ring leader himself. So we could free Mikhail, who had been locked away in darkness for over a decade. Without Raven’s recklessness, without her ferocity, without her willingness to bleed for us, we would not be here. Many of you thought she was dragged into hell. I saw her stand up in it. Remember that.”
“To address Raven’s conduct at the clinic...” I clear my throat, trying to control my anger. “When Ayla was taken, Raven didn’t waste a heartbeat. She went straight to the clinic, searching for answers, and when she asked for help, some of you refused to assist her. She did what was necessary.” A murmur runs through the crowd, wolves shifting uneasily. I let the silence drag, sharp as a blade.
“I understand the lives lost hurt. I feel that same weight. But Raven wasn’t reckless. She was loyal. She was working for me. If she was denied help, then I was denied help. And that will not be tolerated in this pack again.”
I sweep my gaze across them, my aura pressing down until none can look away. “Every worker in that clinic who turned their back on her, consider your positions terminated. You don’t get to refuse to cooperate regarding your Luna’s protection. You don’t get to look away when one of your own is fighting for answers. You failed her. You failed me.” The weight in the clearing deepens, some wolves bowing their heads in shame, others staring rigidly forward. I let it sit before I continue.
“The safety of this pack could not have been maintained without Damon. While I was gone, he carried the weight of all of you on his shoulders while standing by his new mate during their first heat. That alone is no small task, but he did it while threats pressed against our borders and enemies circled like vultures. He kept you safe. He made sure our home remained whole, even when his Alpha could not be here. That is sacrifice, not just his time, not just his strength, but his peace. I do not take it lightly.” I watch the majority nodding in agreement, knowing how stressful heats are on both parties and understanding that trying to do anything else while caring for your mate during that time seems impossible.
They understand that he stepped up when we desperately needed it.
“There will be another pack meeting. Soon. At it, we’ll speak of what comes next. We’ll settle the matter of who stands as Alpha of the Midnight Pack. And we will honor those who deserve to be named.”
I let the silence fall again, heavy and absolute.
“You bled for me. You bled for her. And because of that, our world stands. Remember that.”
