Omega Bound Chapter 84

Thane

One minute I am reviewing the money trail Tyler found from the last raid to a mountain range 1800 miles away, the next I am hit with a pleasure so intense, I can feel it overtake my entire body. My dick immediately jumps to attention as I hear "Thane" repeatedly in the mind-link. Choking on my water and spraying it all over the desk was difficult to recover from. Especially when my team is used to me being hard and broody. Not dick hard and longing.

"Is the pack ready?" I ask and Cyrus nods. I have called for a gathering to get this all out in the open. We leave the pack house, and head to the same place where Little Wolf and I held our ceremony reception. 

Some of the pack members clap me on the back, still congratulating me on our mating while others pile gifts into the back of my SUV for, I am assuming little wolf. I could have brought her today. We should show a united front, but I also need to spare her the possibility of breaking down in front of the pack right now. All of that aside, I couldn't bring her anyway. Ayla complaining of her skin crawling is another sign that her heat is approaching and her getting her nest ready will calm her and is more important than what I am currently getting ready to do.

I step up to the podium and motion for everyone to take a seat. "Hello pack members. I have called an emergency meeting today to inform you that two pack members have been found guilty of committing treason against your alpha and attempting to take my mate from me." Audible gasps and whispers start in the crowd. People are shocked and looking around trying to pinpoint who could be missing or if the culprits are here, but they aren't.

"Many of you know that I rescued my mate from a trafficking ring. What you don't know is that my mate was disconnected from her wolf following years of abuse and poisoning. She was unable to recognize her mating bond with me and I with her. During this time, Kian was paid to fake a mating bond with Ayla in an attempt to keep her away from me. The person who paid him to pretend to feel a mating bond with her was unfortunately Della. Kian abused my mate before fleeing the pack. He was apprehended upon his return and admitted to his crimes and was put to death. Della attempted to hurt my mate last night at our house after our mating ceremony. She refused to see reason and was also put to death." 

The pack is eerily quiet while they process the information given to them. I decided to leave out the poisoning as we are still investigating. I feel like my pack is split up into several teams all investigating potential threats and we need to figure it all out soon before it takes a toll on us.

I can hear crying starting, from friends and family start amongst the quiet crowd. "The two of them conspired against their Alpha and Luna and in turn this pack. I can't begin to put into words how much it hurt me to make this decision, and I apologize to the friends and families of these two. Before ending this meeting, I would just like to announce that if any further shifters here are found to have blame or are found to have conspired to hurt my mate in any way, I will find out and you will have signed your life over. That is all." The crowd murmurs while I head off of the stage.

"Cyrus, get me more information on the locations the wire transfers pinged to. Send a team for surveillance only and have my information by the end of the week. Damon, send a few of your men into the pack and town, let me know what the pack is saying, I want any names that pop up in the same conversation as Kian's and Della's. Does anyone know if Eric is back from his vacation yet?" 

"Yes, he returned this morning," Cyrus informs me. 

"Good. I will need to talk to him. I think Ayla is going into heat soon. I don't know how long I will be away and now is terrible timing." 

"Lucky brother. I can handle it, Thane." Cyrus claps me on the back. He has seen multiple shifters through heats at the clinic, but I have never experienced one, so I believe the stories he tells me about how amazing and dreadful it will be. 

Amazing? The sex with Ayla of course. 

The dreadful? He says she-wolves can get downright mean when you attempt to take care of them when all they want is your knot. 

I will need to make sure I have her room stocked and ready. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, but I am trusting my alpha instincts will know what my mate needs. "I am going to head back to the cabin and check on Ayla. How are we coming with the poison suspect?" I asked Tyler who is currently overworked in our all-things technical and forensic department. 

"Dead end. We haven't figured out who is in the camera footage, and nobody can give a good description. The guy kept his head down and didn't talk to anyone. You don't think it was Della's doing?" 

"No, I don't Tyler. She lost it when she found out I was poisoned. I think this is an inside job or a rival pack, but we need answers." 

"I will find them," he states, and we break away and I head straight to my SUV with only one person on my mind.

The bond in my chest and warm and contented. Little Wolf may have enjoyed whatever she found herself doing this morning. A feeling of satisfaction hits me while I am driving, and it brings a smile to my face. I want my mate to be happy and peaceful. Especially after everything that keeps happening to her.

I take the stairs into the house, calling out for her to make myself known, but I can feel the bond tugging me in a direction so I am sure she can feel it as well. I head through the master suite and can smell Ayla's lavender scent magnified. Her scent was getting stronger, and I wish I knew how many days we had left before her heat hit. We need to have some serious discussion before it gets here, but I haven't had the right opportunity.

I creak open the next room door slowly and stop in my tracks. Little wolf has spent the day nesting. She has crafted herself, or us rather, a large woven nest lined with pillows and blankets intricately woven. Her omega instincts are surfacing, and I can't help but feel proud. She should have had years of practice, but she managed to make herself one with just a day and the right materials. 

I can't lie. I bought the whole damn store out of nervousness I would choose the wrong things for her. 

I walk slowly to the nest to find her asleep in the middle, wearing only my dress shirt pulled up over her nose like she fell asleep inhaling my scent. Her fairy lights are hanging, and the nest looks like the definition of comfort. I notice a pair of my boxers woven into the blankets and realize she has woven in multiple shirts of mine. My heart thrums with warmth. This is my mate. This is our nest. She made it in preparation for her heat and the potential to become pregnant with pups, whether her mind knows it or not.
