Off Limits, Brother's Best Friend Chapter 104
Chapter 104: I Know Your Body Language
Brianna
I was here with my friends to have fun, so we chatted with some guys who came up to us and weren't being sketchy about it. Two of them don't speak English at all, so it was kind of funny when they would try to address Jane and I. We stood with blank faces and the short haired girl among us came up to me and pulled my arm from where I had been leaning against the far wall with the view.
“That guy has been checking you out like crazy.” She whispered to me, shifting her eyes past our friends over the bar. He raised a glass to me when he noticed the two of us looking and I cringed.
“Damnit, he saw us looking. It is going to encourage him to come over here.” I said and she gave me a momentarily confused expression.
“So? He is cute.” Her accent sounds cute when she ends a sentence with a question mark that doesn't need to be there.
“A little, he is not really my type.” I waved him off.
He was more preppy chic, certainly fashionable but with no aura of anything that draws you to him. No dark finesse. I almost stumbled when an arm suddenly flung around my shoulder. I saw the sway of blonde hair before I saw it was Joy, the one whose father is a politician.
“These men are offering to buy us drinks, what would you like?” She asked the two of us.
At the same time,I saw the man who pointed out headed towards us and when he was close, I noticed he had a strong chin and smelled of sandalwood or something of that nature. He spoke in their language and I had to sheepishly smile as I always do.
“I don't hear the language.” I mumbled, his eyebrows rose to his straight hairline.
“You have a great accent for a non-speaker.” He gave me a thumbs up and I chuckled.
“Thank you, I have been trying to learn but I have mastered how to tell people I don't speak the language.” He smirks at my amusement.
“Are you here with a man?” He asked me in his broken English and I shook my head no.
“I am just here to enjoy with my friends.” I said, giving him the hint that I am not interested without being rude.
“I can be your friend.” He gave me a crooked grin and an arm came around my waist this time, I knew who it was. Jane sucked her teeth at the man and muttered.
“She is mine, back off.” He looked a bit confused and I apologized on her behalf but snorted a laugh once he walked away. I turned to face her.
“What if I wanted to talk to him?” I popped a hip out with my hand on it.
“Oh, please. I know your body language. You weren't interested.” She was right.
“There are some cuties over there though, are you going to flirt or are you still hung up on my brother?” She asked so casually.
“I am not hung up but we have been talking a lot through the phone and we had our moment when he was here. I am not sure what is going on between us.” I frowned.
“Well, you should get some clarification because if he isn't taking this seriously, you are wasting precious time when you could be snagging yourself a London hottie for a fling.” She nudged me.
One would think she would be all for her brother's side is things but she isn't. She is always looking out for me and saying the truth when it comes to Callan. The thought of asking him what we are doing or where we stand either each is too scary for me. I don't want to spook him, I have been enjoying the naughty pictures, my morning outfit pictures and the phone sex. I don't want to ruin a good thing, so I won't ask.
“Girls, let's go dancing.” I decided to get the group's attention so I could effectively avoid this uncomfortable conversation. They gave me a few hoots and howls bef we all linked arms in pairs, walking to the staircase that would lead us back into the club.
I wouldn't know how to label the type of music that was playing but I know it was the type you could dance to. We started swaying our hips, Jane was whipping her hair while she moved like she always does when having a good time. The body's started closing in on us as it got more full inside, the girl with a beauty mark like Monroe came and held my hips to dance with me. It didn't take long for us to get sandwiched by two men, trying to dance with the both of us. I let it slide for a moment because we were laugin about it and having fun but when he got grabby, I pulled the girl and got out of there.
Earlier in the night, I texted my friend and colleague Who is a fashion photographer I worked with during my first month here. I told him to come out with us if he was around, he ended up texting me back and letting me know he was in the area and would come by. He isn't gorgeous but he is cute, square face with light stubble and wavy dark amber colored hair that is not styled. He is a very laid back guy which is why we got along so well during the photoshoot we did together last month. I saw him cutting through the crowd and waved at him to get his attention to where we were. His eyes scanned the room and recognition crossed his expression when he caught my waving arm. The girls hadn't met him yet but I had mentioned him in passing.
“Hey,” he said and gave me a double cheeks kiss that I always do here.
“I am glad you could make it.”
I had to practically holler in his ear over this music. I led him closer to my friends and hollered again to give an introduction. A lot of cheek kisses were given and a few of the girls had their flirt faces on. They liked him, he gave me a half dimpled smile that I think is why he falls on the side of cute rather than sexy. Or maybe, I am just comparing him to the moody, dark and serious man I have on my mind.
Jace spoke with some of my friends for a while, I continued dancing but when I resurfaced for a new drink, Jace caught up with me. He offered to buy me a drink and I declined a thousand times but he insisted and bought it anyway. We decided to hang out near the lounge area rather than the dance floor, so we could actually have a conversation without yelling in one another's ear.
“I heard about the vogue, Brianna. Congratulations, really, it is impressive to get an internship so soon for such a prestigious brand.” He rubbed my arm.
“Thank you, honestly, I got lucky. I met someone at a party and I had no idea she works there, we got along and I don't know..” I smiled sheepishly and it made him laugh.
“Hey, that doesn't make it any less impressive. I met the right people when I was starting out in photography too.” He told me.
Jace is around twenty-eight years, although I haven't asked but by the conversation we have had about school and how long he has been working, I can deduce a timeline that puts him at around that age. That makes him a few years older than me. He has been in the industry longer than I have, so I like listening to stories he has or even his friendly advice. After that last drink, I was buzzing below the flesh a little bit and it made me giggle more when in conversation with him which made him laugh. He had been having drinks with friends before he came here, so maybe he was a little tipsy too, I couldn't tell.
“Do you want to go back and dance with your friends? We can dance, but not in a weird way. Just friendly.” He suggested, I nodded and dragged him back over to my friends where we all started dancing again.
They practically circled the poor guy but I don't think he minded at all. We were goofing around not being seductive, so it was a good time. He ended up beside me at one point and he took my hand to twirl me. We ended up holding hands and facing each other to dance, at least two feet apart in a friendly way, just like he offered. He had his little dimpled smirk and I was smiling wide.
I was just enjoying myself without all the busy work stuff, the stress of my father resurfacing and my conflicted feelings regarding a certain man. Jace twirled me again and we bumped body's dancing just a few inches closer this time.
